Food in Prison: The Real Power Player pt.2
When I started my time of incarceration, I thought like most of you probably do, that what runs a prison system is stuff like, fear, intimidation, the gangs, violence, drugs. And while each of those can play its own major part, it's not the underlying current that connects it all. In the end what the system holds over an inmate's head to get them compliant and motivated, is simply food. Controlling that one fundamental aspect of our lives as inmates always gave the system both guards and fellow inmates total control. In this episode, the second of a two part on this subject, I share stories of how this played out and effected us directly and how it wasn't just something the guards used, but fellow inmates to their own advantage, some for good, some for, let's just say, more nefarious purposes.
