Working together will teach children how to navigate conflict and avoid combat. They need to feel like the family unit still exists and that even though there will be routine changes, everyone is still playing on the same team. 

A second opinion is a good way to be prepared when adding stress to a child's environment. Parents should always seek mediation or arbitration BEFORE announcing changes such as divorce or separation.
