5 Tips To Help Your Newborn Baby Become A Pro Sleeper
Hello beautiful mums and dads and welcome to The Parenting Co Podcast. We are your hosts, Abby McKenna, the Chief Editor of The Parenting Co, and Faith Thom's also of The Parenting Co and Sleep Consultant at Lula and Lullaby. Today, we are talking about five tips to help your new-born become a pro sleeper. And of course, we've got the perfect in-house expert with us in Faith. Sleep and newborns, it's pretty chaotic and is a bit messy. And it can seem very random. And it's supposed to be that way because it's all about the idea of the fourth trimester, where the first three months of your baby's life they still really want to be in the womb, it's like they're not ready to be born yet. So these first three months, they really like a lot of the sensations from the womb. They like being dark and cosy and moved around, they like noise. And these things help them calm down. So helping your newborn sleep is kind of about recreating some of the feelings they had in the womb and helping them make that transition from womb to world a little easier. And it's also because their systems are really immature. They don't have any circadian rhythms yet, which is our sleep and wake cycles, over 24 hours. These are coming in and they're being developed, and they're starting to produce new hormones that weren't there at birth as well. If you know how your baby's body is developing, you can set up great habits for them around their sleep and you can ascertain why some weeks are more difficult than others. With the tips we share in this episode, your baby will be sleeping like a pro in no time.
