E04: Prayer As Protest
On this week’s episode of The Painful Optimist, I present the idea that prayer is a form of protest, and if so, it should be our first act of protest on the frontline of a very spiritual war, one more real than we know (or sometimes want to believe). #PrayerAsProtest

E03: Who Is My Enemy?
This week, President Donald Trump declared via Twitter that the American people have a new enemy, and it’s not a new faction of terrorism—it’s Big Media. On the other hand, Big Media wants us to fear Trump, Putin, North Korea and ISIS. But are they all really our enemy when scripture tells us there is a battle not against flesh and blood journalists or world leaders, but against principalities and powers? This week, Joel encourages us to not be distracted by the voices want us to fear, worry and doubt that God is good or that He is in control. It is a distraction from the face of Jesus himself who we should be looking upon.

E01: The Flagship Episode
CURATE.CC present The Painful Optimist with host Joel Stephens. Joel is the founder and lead editor of CURATE, an online magazine, community-driven blog, news outlet, and source for Christian engagement and encouragement all wrapped into one. In this first podcast of The Painful Optimist, Joel presents a picture of why even podcast to begin with, along with the direction he hopes this podcast will take over time. He present the Point of View, which centers around the idea that God is good and a good father, Jesus is “perfect theology” and when we see his life and actions, we see God himself, and there is a Holy Spirit wanting to fill us up. He ends the POV with this idea that a renaissance of our spirit with God’s spirit is on it’s way, if not already here, where we will see God move in our midst like never before. The point of the podcast is to find hope in this world when there is a whole lot of shak’in going on.
