Why I am walking away from my successful business
This episode is a little different from other episodes, because… it’s sort of a “farewell episode” … at least for now. What I want to do is explain why I made the decision to step away from the business that I have spent the last 2 years building… The 6 online programs I’ve built, the clients I’ve had the pleasure of working with, the endless blog posts I’ve written, the website that I hosted, the podcast I started last year and the Instagram account that is now at over 170k followers. I am walking away from Own It Babe today and as heavy as my heart is as I record this episode, I also know that it’s the right thing to do for me. It may come as a surprise to some of you, so I want to talk about what’s going on in my head, what’s been going on for the past few months and why I ultimately made the decision to choose self care and mental health over continuing to build and grow my business.  My intention with this is to raise awareness about the impact that social media can have on our mental health and while that is not big news by any means, I think it’s also important to hear everyone’s personal experiences with this to help us understand how we can be more kind and compassionate with one another and ourselves… The bottom line is that our mental health always needs to come first, no matter what we do, how much money we make, how successful we are or what choices we make in life. And that is ultimately what it came down to for me. I might be back a couple months down the road depending on how I feel, but for now, enjoy this episode and take care xoxo More about Rini Website: https://ownitbabe.ca Courses: https://courses.ownitbabe.ca Instagram: https://instagram.com/ownitbabe The song you hear at the end of this episode is from singer-songwriter Anja Kotar and is called “1500”, used with the artists’ permission. Why our bodies are hardwired against dieting with Caroline Dooner
Caroline Dooner is a full-time writer on the subject of food obsession and how to heal from it. She spent years as a performer, trying really hard to fit into the tiny/beautiful category. She believed she was a food addict, and so she dieted like it was her job (because it kind of was), and hoped it would help her meet her destiny, but all it did was crush her soul and hurt her body. Now she runs her amazing business called The F*ck It Diet and writes about our relationship to food and weight. I can’t wait for you to listen to her story, including her epiphany on her 24th birthday that kicked off her f*ck-it-diet-journey. We talk all about why restricting food, especially carbs and sugar, makes us MORE insulin resistant and more obsessed with food, as well as how to start taking your power back and heal your relationship to food on a physical, emotional and mental level. 3 reasons you may feel stuck with intuitive eating and how to get un-stuck
Welcome to Own it Babe, a podcast about an unconventional approach to health that isn’t about counting calories and killing yourself in the gym, but rather an approach to food that is rooted in intuitive eating, food freedom, and body acceptance. This episode is based around questions I get a TON from students in my online course as well as my lovely followers on Instagram that slide into my DMs. It’s a question along the lines of “I’ve been trying to eat intuitively and felt it was going well for a while. I love being able to eat my favorite foods again, but now I am stuck! I am so tempted to go back to dieting, because everyone around me is doing the Whole30. I feel I am gaining weight and I also feel hungry all the time and I am so overwhelmed with food choices and omg I don’t think I can do this. What should I do, please help!”  In this episode, I will be going through 3 reasons you may feel stuck on your anti-diet journey and how you can overcome those obstacles like the badass that you are.  Hint: If you are still putting a lot of focus on weight loss or are secretly hoping for weight loss, intuitive eating will be very difficult to put into practice… but more on that in this episode. How to avoid the social media comparison trap
It’s no news that we feel crappy when we compare our lives to other people’s lives on social media. I feel like a lot of people are talking about this and preaching to not compare ourselves. Personally, I know on a rational level that I should stop comparing myself. Yet, I’ve had a hard time putting it into practice until I actually understood comparison on social media on a much deeper level. In this episode, I am diving deeper into what it actually means to compare ourselves, because I don’t want this to be just another reminder to, ya know, “not compare yourself” and that’s about it. I want this to clarify how comparison actually impacts our everyday life in a negative way and share 3 things I do to snap out of comparison mode as soon as I detect it. If this episode was helpful for you, share it with someone you love or share a screen shot to your Instagram stories and tag me, @ownitbabe, so I can come say hello and personally thank you!! Why people-pleasing causes anxiety and how to own who you are with Shaun Frey
Today’s episode is a special one, because I am interviewing my husband Shaun on: how to start building your confidence and stop listening to your inner critichow to stop comparing your life to other people’s liveshow to stop beating yourself up if things go wrong or not your waywhat to do if people/parents/friends don’t approve of your life decisionshow to know if what you’re doing is for you or for the validation of other peoplenavigating body image in your relationship, specifically when it comes to feeling insecure about weight gain (it get’s really juicy at minute 40:00!) I did an episode with Shaun before which was all about him supporting me on my recovery journey and dealing with negative body image in a relationship. It’s episode #7, so you don’t have to go back too too far to have a listen. (It’s worth it and one of the most downloaded episodes to date!) I have been with Shaun for almost 7 years and have known him for almost 9 years, so I have seen him evolve in so many ways when it comes to his confidence and the way he shows up in the world. But one thing hasn’t changed: His belief that the opinions of other people shouldn’t play a role in our lives to a point where we stop being ourselves. And today, I want him to share his wisdom with all of us, so you can hopefully walk away with some practical tools under your belt to start living your most authentic life.   Follow Rini on Instagram: https://instagram.com/ownitbabe Access Rini’s Body Image Pep Talks: https://ownitbabe.ca/freebies Access Rini’s Fearless Food Freedom Blueprint: https://courses.ownitbabe.ca/p/fearless

Chronic invisible illnesses and why it’s important to have more empathy, with Danie van Kay
Today’s guest is Danie van Kay, body positive facilitator, health coach and eating disorder intuitive therapy coach. She is an anorexia survivor and she suffers from chronic Lyme Disease, which I didn’t know much about until I chatted with her, so needless to say she is working hard to raise awareness for chronic invisible illnesses, like Lyme Disease and I am so glad to introduce you to her today. Her story is an inspiring example of resilience, positivity and strength and I can’t wait for you to listen to my chat with her. We talk about chronic invisible illnesses and why so many of them go unnoticed AND are also accompanied by disordered eating. Danie shares her rock bottom moment with her eating disorder and what her recovery and nutritional rehabilitation looked like (her re-feeding process of eating ‘all the things’). We also talk about the importance of body neutrality and how you can apply it to your life especially on bad body image days. If you enjoy this podcast, make sure you leave us a rating and review over on iTunes or on the podcast platform of your choice. The biggest mistake I made when I stopped dieting
Today’s solo episode is very near and dear to my heart, because I will be sharing with you how I overcame my mindset of perfectionism with food, the mistakes I made while I was trying to recover from orthorexia – an obsession with eating healthy and, let’s be honest, an obsession with dieting – and how I allowed myself to finally relax around food and stop dieting for good. This episode will be super helpful for you if you’re currently in the mindset of “I just don’t understand, I am SO good with everything else, I do great at work, I am a good mother/daughter/friend/partner/human, I work so hard everywhere else, why can’t I control myself around food, why is my body constantly getting in the way of me trying to “eat healthy”? I think what I will be telling you here might be pretty mind blowing and not what you’d expect to hear. Because I won’t be telling you to “just try dieting harder”, to “just cut out more sugar, dairy or gluten”, to exercise harder, or whatever else you hear from people that promote a restrictive way of eating to “control yourself around food”. Review of the week This week’s review is from Agavel and she says: “Definitely had an ‘a-ha’ moment while listenting to episode 4 about how fat is not an emotion and if you are “feeling fat” you need to do more digging about the emotion you are actually feeling. I’m enjoying listening to all episodes its definitely helpful as a pick-me-up on a day when negative thoughts come creeping in.” Thank you SO much for your kind words lovely, and I know for a fact that episode 4 is one of the most downloaded episodes ever for my podcast, so if you who’s listening hasn’t tuned in, I highly recommend giving it a listen. Subscribe and Review this show I am excited to hear what you think, so if you enjoy this Podcast, make sure to subscribe, share it with a friend or leave us a rating and review over on iTunes, it would really help me out a ton in getting the word out for this show and spreading a different message from the one we see everywhere aka. “just eat less and move more” because that is definitely not the right way to go if you’re anything like me. From 2008 to 2016, she was one of the leaders of the ACUTE Center for Eating Disorders at Denver Health. She left after serving as its Medical Director and as an Associate Professor of Medicine at the University of Colorado School of Medicine to found the Gaudiani Clinic, which provides outpatient in-person and telemedicine medical care to patients of all genders with eating disorders and disordered eating and to those in recovery. In fact, most people that struggle with disordered eating are in straight-sizes bodies and larger bodies, which makes seeking treatment very complicated. This episode will be SO helpful for you if you feel like you may be struggling with disordered eating but you are not in a body that you feel “looks” disordered. We also talk about how to raise children and protect them from diet culture as much as possible and instil a positive body image. Can’t wait to hear what you think! Anxiety – conquering, dealing with + living with this constant companion
Hey everyone and welcome back to the Own it Babe podcast. How are you?? I took a little bit of a break this past week, wasn’t hanging out on Instagram much, didn’t do much work and feel like I haven’t talked to you in forever! I hope you are doing well and maybe not going through what I’m going through right now. OMG, that sounded so dramatic, right? Today’s episode is about anxiety and some important thoughts I want to pass on to you when it comes to dealing with it. Obvi, today’s episode is not a substitute for mental health treatment, because this is solely based on my experience with my mental health journey, therapy, medication, etc. Before I let you listen, I have one announcement to make: My new online program Fearless Food Freedom Blueprint is finally out in the world. If you need help with stopping the vicious cycle of dieting, restriction and then binge eating, eating past fullness or emotional eating, but you want to stop feeling stuck and helpless, this program is an amazing support system for you. I cannot recommend it enough, because it contains all the steps I took and all my clients and past students have taken to go from chronic dieting to food freedom.
