Episode 6: Mark Zona, Joseph Bartozzi
Mark Zona Premieres May 21, 2020.Welcome back to The Outdoor Revival. On this week’s episode, Brad, Pete and D-Breau welcome Joseph Bartozzi. He is the CEO/President of the NSSF, the National Shooting Sports Foundation. He has an extensive background in the firearm industry, most notably working for Mossberg since the mid 80’s. He’ll talk to us about everything their organization is doing to protect our Second Amendment rights. Then, joining us around the campfire, is none other than the host of Zona’s Awesome Fishing Show and the Bassmaster’s, Mark “Z” Zona. He’ll talk about what he’s been doing during the COVID-19 pandemic, as well as how he’s had to become politically active during these times. Download the episode to hear these guys and more. First up, Brad and the guys talk about the news stories concerning the outdoor world. REI is starting the re-opening process. So, there is light at the end of this COVID-19 tunnel. Then the taboo subject of “to wear a mask or not to wear a mask” is brought up. ☺ Coke/Pepsi, Republican/Democrat, Toiler Paper Over/Under, and now Mask/No Mask. Listen to find out which one of the guys does wear a mask. Then Brad, Pete, and Dennis get back on topic and talk about how the reopening process is going on in their areas. Brad talks about a story just breaking, how after 3 years of owning Moosejaw, Walmart is finally launching several of their own outdoor brands. There is a lot to discuss on Walmart’s strategy. The first guest on today’s podcast is Joseph Bartozzi. He is the CEO/President of the NSSF, the trade association for the firearms and ammunition industry. He talks about how their organization reached out to the Department of Homeland security on behalf of their members at the beginning of the COVID-19 outbreak. They helped to make sure their members were able to remain open, as a lot of them are defense contractors. They also discuss how COVID has affected the hunting season, the boon in firearm sales, and life in a post COVID-19 world. Finally, they discuss the first shot program and the plus one program by the NSSF. Afterwards, our panelists talk about all of the help the NSSF has offered its members. They also talk about turkey hunting season.This week we gather around the campfire with Mark Zona. He talks about how he got into bass fishing. After him and his friend won a fishing contest in Chicago as kids, he hung up his little league glove, and took up fishing. After being in thousands of fishing contests, ESPN came knocking about doing The Bassmasters. He talks about how coronavirus will change next seasons Zona’s Awesome Fishing Show. Living in Michigan, the epicenter for the boating ban, Mark talk about how a non-political guy like him had to become more politically active. He reminds ALL of us, to stand up, for what we stand for. He was ignorantly naive most of his life, after this pandemic, he’s not anymore.   The guys finish off this week’s podcast talking about how The Bassmaster’s just squeaked in before the shutdown, how difficult professional bass fishing is, and how Mark Zona become passionate after something was taken from him. Episode 4: Will Clark, Glenn Hughes
Will Clark Premieres Friday, May 1, 2020.This week on The Outdoor Revival we have Glenn Hughes on with us. He’s the President of the American Sportfishing Association (ASA). He’ll fill us in on how his team is helping to keep fisherman on the water.  Then joining us today around the campfire it’s “The Thrill” himself, Golden Glover, 6 time All Star, AND Olympian…Will Clark. Will has some awesome and entertaining stories to share with us. Plus, how his family and him are enduring the COVID-19 pandemic.  Brad reports that Patagonia announced that they are reopening. Are things returning to normal? The panel discusses their thought on that. Everyone remains hopeful that this is a beginning of a comeback for the outdoor retail sector. Brad also fills in everyone how New York has closed all of its public boat ramps, while Texas on the other hand has reopened their state parks and facilities. The gang discusses this “Tale of Two States.” Finally, they hear how Johnny Morris of Bass Pro Shops donated one million masks to healthcare workers. An epic gesture indeed!  Glenn Hughes is the first guest on the podcast today. He’s the President of the ASA. He talks about “who” makes up the American Sportfishing Association. He says 75% is made up of manufacturers. Brad and Glenn talk about all of the confusion over what they can and can’t do during these times. Afterwards, Brad, Pete, D-Breau, and Lindsey go in-depth on the stuff Glenn from the ASA brought up. Next up, legendary first basemen, Will “The Thrill” Clark joins us around the campfire this week. We learn that the New Orleans native, was brought up hunting and fishing. No surprise there! Will has over 2,600 acres in East Mississippi that him and his friends use for hunting. He’s avid about conservation and go through how they’ve been managing his land. He also talks about how his gotten more into freshwater fishing since moving to the Baton Rouge area. They mainly go after bass and crappie. Will is another Bubba Blade fan BTW! Finally, Brad and Will talk baseball, the COVID-19 virus, the Olympics, AND hitting a homer off of Nolan Ryan!   We finish off this week’s podcast talking about how Will has the right idea, enjoying time outdoors. Episode 3: Ted Nugent, Lise Aangeenbrug
On this episode of The Outdoor Revival, we sit down with Lise Aangeenbrug from the Outdoor Industry Association, as well as The Motor City Madman himself…Mr. Ted Nugent. No other Rockstar has embraced the outdoor lifestyle as he has. He sits around the campfire with us and gets candid about COVID-19 and the things important to him. Listening to Ted talk is like being on a roller coaster. All you can do is buckle up, brace yourself, and enjoy the ride.The boys get us caught up with what’s happening in the outdoor world. There are more furloughs and layoffs to report. This time at Texas based Academy Sports + Outdoors. They report that some States are loosening up restrictions with their “Shelter in Place” orders. Brad tells us about an article he read on how the wildlife are taking over our National Parks.Our first guest is Lise Aangeenbrug the Executive Director for the Outdoor Industry Association. They’ve been around since 1989, representing various Outdoor and Sporting Goods stores, brands, manufacturers, and suppliers. They currently have over 1,300 members. Lise talks about resources available to us, as well as how they are encouraging people to get outside (safely) during this pandemic. Afterwards, the guys talk about whether or not retailers are going to need to pivot their business models after this is all over. As well as talking about if they think people will inject their economic stimulus checks into the Outdoor Industry.Joining us around the campfire this week, is rock n’ roll legend…Ted Nugent. As you know, Ted is an outspoken advocate of the outdoor lifestyle, gun rights, and political activism. Uncle Ted talks about how he was well prepared for this COVID-19 outbreak, he is always well stocked. ;-) Ted goes into Second Amendments rights, voting, and common sense for first time gun owners. He catches us up on how his life hasn’t changed much since the pandemic. Sure, some of his activities have been limited, but he still fishing and hunting during the quarantine. Finally, he talks about his charity, Ted Nugent’s Camp for Kids. For over 30 years, he has taught the healing powers of nature, clean living, and the stimuli of the outdoor lifestyle.
