Why Goal Setting Doesn’t Work With Dax Moy
Did you know that goal setting doesn’t work? Did you also know that accountability and mindset training doesn’t work either? I know… that’s some straight up BS right there… isn’t it? Almost every single entrepreneur and successful business person… Sets goals, works on dialing in their mindset and has had coaches that hold them accountable. If that’s the case then why am I saying “they doesn’t work?” Well, I came across this crazy idea because of Dax Moy. So I wanted to interview him on this because it sounds like what he is saying is the exact opposite of almost everyone else. I mean, have you ever heard of someone in the entrepreneurial world say that goal-setting doesn’t work? Maybe one or two people. But it’s very rare. So when Dax starting talking about it I knew it was time to speak to him about it. I knew there was a deeper level to it than just “goal setting doesn’t work,” or mindset training doesn’t work. And that’s exactly where Dax goes in this episode. He goes into how the brain has to be running optimally first before goal setting, mindset, accountability, and all those things can work. If the brain is not running right, it doesn’t matter what type of goals you set, or how much mindset work you do, or even how many coaches you have… It’ll be damn hard to get where you want to go. And it was a pretty fascinating conversation especially hearing about how Dax ended up on this journey, So if you’re into becoming a better entrepreneur and achieving success or maybe even understanding your customers and clients better… This will be an interesting interview to listen to. And if nothing else you will get to learn exactly why goal setting doesn’t work if the brain is not in the right place. So check it out… Listen Here To Dax’s Interview Episode Highlights Who is Dax Moy?How Dax got started in the business world and what type of businesses he ran. What traumatic event happened to Dax in 2004 that completely changed his life. Why he was able to live years with no issues after this event. What the trigger was that brought the whole experience all rushing back. What type of toll this took on him personally and professionally. What type of physical and emotional responses took place because of the PTSDHow he started to manage the PTSDWhat made him realize that the brain was the key issue and it wasn’t anything like mindset or accountabilityWhy he was setting goals but rarely following through with them. Why it was difficult to achieve his goals and how it made him feel like an impostor. How he figured out that setting goals, willpower and accountability only work if the brain is in the right place. What it means to “speak brain.”How social structures and environment play a role in getting the brain to operate correctly. How the brain gets wired to respond in certain ways. Why you can rewire the brain. How to rewire the brain. When the optimal time is to set goals. A final note on all of this… There is nothing wrong with having and setting goals. In fact, it’s important. According to Dax, it’s all about understanding where you need to be to set the goals to follow through with them. So if you’re curious to know how this all works or even just wondered why goal setting doesn’t work, this interview with Dax is worth a listen. An Open Conversation With Ryan Lee About Life And Business
A few years back I did an interview with Ryan Lee. It was all about why he left the fitness industry and what was going on in his life that forced him to make those changes. Well, fast forward a few years and here we are again. Only this time… Ryan and I have a really interesting conversation about his views on business, starting over, and how he can pivot and change direction so easily. Not only that, we talk about what he feels is really important and what not a lot of entrepreneurs talk about. It’s a conversation that just flows and we dive into all sorts of areas.  Eventually we get into his latest venture Rewind, and why he decided to dive back into Freedym after moving away from it. You’ll hear as the conversation goes on that the majority of what he creates now is simply an extension of who he is and… What he enjoys. If you follow Ryan at all then you know anything to do with the 1980s is a big thing with him. You’ll hear how he uses that and incorporates it into business and why other entrepreneurs should consider focusing more on talking about their interests in their marketing. Lastly, the one big topic that pops up a bunch during this conversation is about pivoting from one venture to the next.  Ryan is one of the best at doing this and doing it quickly. So hearing what he has to say about how to do it, and how to test it is extremely valuable. And speaking of pivoting… Ryan is going to start dabbling again around his own personal brand. So if you want to see what he is up to then make sure to check it out at RyanLee.com Listen To Ryan Lee’s Interview Here Ryan’s Episode Highlights How Ryan is feeling and how his health issues have been. Why Ryan decided to get back into the health and fitness markets again. What business he started recently and why he decided to start that. Why nutrition is a main focus for this business. Why finding something that excites you is important when building a business. What is the most important trait you must have as an entrepreneur. What the entrepreneurial life is really like for him and everyone else. Why success doesn’t mean future ventures will be successful. The mindset Ryan had when going into a business he had no experience in.Why entrepreneurs don’t pivot when they should. Why emotional attachments can severely hold you back. The reason entrepreneurs stick in a business that’s successful even though they hate it.The reason why he gave up his previous business called Freedym. How Ryan decides to let go of businesses and pivot. Why you should not fear pivoting. How he looks at starting a new business. Why Ryan enjoys starting from scratch at times. What the “cycle of entrepreneur” following is. Why the 1980’s theme is such a big part of his nutrition company. Why it’s so important to incorporate what you love into your marketing. How passion is such a powerful tool for what you do. How getting caught up in the “guru” world crushed who he was.How long it took for him to “reclaim” who he was. What kind of conversion rates he has to cold traffic for his product page. How to validate your new idea after you have pivoted.  One final note on this conversation with Ryan Lee… If you listened to the last podcast I did with him then you’ll know that Ryan was the person who got me into the business game and helped me completely change the direction of my life.  He’s been in the entrepreneurial world for over two decades, and you’ll hear lots of stories from others that got their start because of Ryan. So it’s definitely worth it to REALLY listen to this open conversation with Ryan Lee. That’s because he truly has walked the walk. The Evolution Of Paul Mort
When Paul Mort comes on a podcast to do an interview you always know it’s going to be a fun ride. There’s a lot of energy, no holding back, and it’s entertaining. He brings “the fire” as they say. That’s why I always love speaking with him. But he also delivers GOOD, useful content. Over the years I’ve interviewed Paul a few times.  And in the previous podcast we did, we went into how he overcame MASSIVE challenges. Bipolar issues, suicidal tendencies, and some pretty heavy stuff. But it’s been a few years since then and… He’s seen such transformational growth that I had to have him on again to talk about it. A quick side note… Anytime you see someone going through massive exponential growth it’s really valuable to talk to them about it. Especially when they are happier because of it.  That’s because that energy rubs off on others and can make a HUGE impact for them as well. In fact, I’m writing this just after we finished our podcast, and I’m pretty energized by our conversation. And the conversation felt like a time warp.  That’s how you always know it’s a good one. But besides all of that… The biggest element that stood out from this conversation is… He’s happy and he’s loving what he is doing. For Paul, who has had such a crazy journey, that is an amazing accomplishment.  So in our conversation you’ll hear why this is such a big deal for him. You’ll hear how he got to this place. And you’ll hear how it’s taken him on one hell of an incredible journey. Listen Here To The Evolution Of Paul Mort Want To Watch The Interview? Check It Out Below The Evolution Of Paul Mort Episode Highlights Why Paul has shifted away from the previous “life” he was in.How Paul is different now than just a year ago. What has caused this massive shift for him and how it’s helped others. What his most important values are. What the biggest challenges and struggles are that he’s had to face. Why realizing he loves attention has been a great thing for him.Why saying NO has been a good thing but also very difficult. What he’s gone through to make these changes. What his biggest successes have been the past year. What his biggest failures have been.Where his constant energy comes from. Why energy is so underrated but so important. Why he doesn’t have an end game with this business. How his growth has changed his thoughts on journaling, meditation, and yoga. How his changes have impacted his family. What his thoughts are on happiness. What he feels about hustling and grindingHow he feels about stress and managing it.Why his new audiobook scared the shit out of him.Why he went with an audiobook instead of a printed book. What The Pandemic Has Done To Travis And Liv Jones’s Fitness Business Empire And How They’re Working Through It
In this episode, I wanted to bring in Travis and Liv Jones. Travis and Liv operate a Fitness business in Australia with multiple locations, lots of staff, and a ton of moving parts. I wanted to speak with them about what the pandemic has done to the business and how they’re getting through it. That’s because sometimes it’s good to help put things in perspective. When we deal with problems we always feel like they’re the worst problems anyone could deal with. But the reality is, there’s always someone who has bigger problems than us. The same applies with problems when it comes to business as well. So getting perspective from a business that is doing things to scale or at a little bit of a bigger level (multiple locations, bigger staff, etc) is always a good way to put things in perspective. Of course, this doesn’t mean that if you run a small solo business that your challenges and problems aren’t a big deal. It’s your life so it’s always a big deal. But imagine your problems then multiply them because of a lot more moving pieces. Well, with COVID-19 throwing businesses through the wringer, it’s all size businesses that are feeling the pain. But the bigger the business, the more challenges they have to face simply because there is more to manage. So I wanted to speak with Travis and Liv because their fitness business is operating at a larger scale and I wanted to know… What they’re facing and how they’re managing it all. But on the other side of it… I also wanted to know what positives have come from this and what they feel the future looks like. And their experience is crazy… to say the least. But there was one interesting piece that came from this interview that I never expected . And that was it was actually a story of a strong marriage and relationship. The strength they have as a couple was crucial for them during this time. And in this interview, you get to hear about all of that, plus some of the crazy shenanigans they’ve had to deal with. So if you want to know what their life has been like, and what their businesses have been through then make sure you listen to this episode. Listen Here To Travis And Liv’s Interview Episode Highlights Who are Travis and Liv, and what type of business it is that they operate.Where they are located and what life was like just prior to the pandemic shutdown. What type of restrictions they were under and how that impacted their business. What the shutdown did to their business. How their staff was handling everything. How they were working with their staff to keep them calm. What type of costs they were dealing with. How some of their landlords treated them because of the pandemic. How one landlord was selling their equipment behind their back. What type of frustrations they felt because of how things kept on shifting. What they have been doing to manage the stress and emotions of this. How this has impacted their family. What positive outcomes have come from this crazy time. How there are a lot of positives that will come from this pandemic. What they feel the future look will look like. How this pandemic actually strengthened who they are.How they’ve gotten even clearer about what their identities and individual strengths are.Why their relationship is so important and how that’s helped them through everything. What their mindset has been through all of this. How Frank Giannino Defied The Odds And Set A World Record Running Across the U.S.
So today I want to introduce you to a guy by the name of Frank Giannino. I wanted to bring Frank on the show for a few reasons. The first reason is, he ran across the U.S. not once but twice. And on the second run, he set a Guinness Record (you can hear how fast he did it in the podcast). And I wanted to know why and how he did it. That’s because his runs across are just like running a business. It’s grueling, it’s not a sprint, and there are times that just want to throw in the towel. So that leads to the second reason I wanted to interview Frank and that is… Sometimes it’s just really good to hear a great story of overcoming the odds and finding inspiration in that. That’s because in business and life… Sometimes we all need something to inspire us when things get a litte bit overwhelming. And with Frank’s transcontinental run(s) there were some pretty intense challenges. So finding out why he decided to do it and what got him through it was fascinating. Now, I know this episode is a little different from the normal ones but it’s one really worth listening to. Because how many people do you know would decide to something like Frank did, not once, but twice? And in the process setting a record. Oh, and get this… He did it 40 years ago without all the fancy training protocols, equipment, and in-depth knowledge that we have today. So dive into this one with Frank Giannino. You’re gonna Love it. Listen Here To Frank Giannino’s Episode Episode Highlights What the actual record was for running across the U.S.How many miles he averaged per day.Why he decided to do it twice. What type of planning went into doing both runs. What type of training he did to prepare. What was his support system like for both runs? What the biggest challenges were that he faced. What got him through those challenges and kept him going. The possible Forrest Gump connection. Why the record lasted for so long and what the new record is.How these runs shaped the rest of his life. If you want to read up on the full story make sure you pick up Frank’s book on Amazon. Do You Know Your Worth?
So what if someone walked up to you and asked “do you know your worth?“ Or “what are you worth?” That’d be kinda weird, right? If it was someone I didn’t know I’d probably be taken back a bit and tell them how weird it is to ask that. But what I want you to start thinking about is not how much you’re worth financially. I want you think about how much you’re worth personally. As in… What’s you’re self worth. Because it’s my belief (and you’ll hear about it in this episode) that the biggest issue most of us carry around is that… “We don’t feel good enough.” And I can bet a few of you reading this will be saying, ” I don’t have that issue.” You may be right but you may also not even know you have it. So I put together this episode to help determine what you’re REAL VALUE is and to give examples of how this shows up in our lives, work, business, and everything else. When it comes to the business side of things most people don’t talk about this stuff. If it’s not about leads, money, hustling, or growing a business it gets shoved aside. But if you want to be happy, if you want to feel fulfilled, knowing how to figure out your REAL VALUE and what you’re truly worth is a good thing to know. The people who already are show it many ways. The people who don’t know show it in many ways as well. Now, I’m gonna let you know there are some hard things to hear about this episode. It’s going to make you look deeper than you’d want. But if you are into continuing to build a life that is better and better this will be worth it. So if you want to truly know where you stand and know your worth then have a listen. Listen To The Episode Here. Do You Know Your Worth Episode Highlights What and why “not feeling good enough” is the biggest issue is that most of us carry around. How you can tell among different generations that this is the biggest issue. Why so many of us don’t realize this issue. Why money and now “likes and views,” are hard-wired into knowing your worth. Why we don’t realize and believe that this may be an issue. How your life, relationships, business, and pretty much everything can be dictated by this belief. How it impacts not just entrepreneurs but people from everyday life. How fear ties into not feeling good enough. How to see it in others. Two ways to determine your worth and where you’re at.How happiness plays a role in your own self-value.How ego shows up when we don’t feel good enough. Why proving ourselves to others is a sure sign of “lack of self-worth.”Why this issue and limiting belief is rarely addressed. One simple stat that proves you’re “good enough” regardless of how much money you make. Why this has to NOT be sugar-coated. One last thing I want to leave on with this topic is… It’s OK if you have this limiting belief. It’s OK if you don’t know your worth. Hell, I didn’t know for about 35 years. No one told me any of this stuff. No one showed me how to fix it. And know that you are not alone in any of this. It seems that most people don’t really know their worth and carry this belief around. So I wanted to put this out there to help with it. Because the day you start to know your worth and realize how important it is… Is the day things really start to shift. Opportunity Versus Purpose – What’s Better For Business And Life
Opportunity versus purpose. Which one wins? Or is there a winner? When you think about the business world so much of it was built on seeing an opportunity and going for it. But is that actually the way that is best for you personally? What about the purpose side of things? Is it better to build or create a purpose driven business instead? I know, that’s a lot of questions right there… And I do my best to answer those questions in this podcast. That’s because… If it comes to happiness and success, there’s a chance one may be a better bet than the other. The reality is our entire global society has been built based on taking advantage of great opportunities. It’s given us and the entrepreneurs who created the businesses incredible technologies, and freedoms we never thought possible. Taking advantage of the opportunities that popped up has literally shaped the way we live. In fact, we are trained by other entrepreneurs to look for opportunities and to solve problems. Which is great. The interesting question is… Is that actually the right approach? Well, if we’re looking at all the great things it’s done for us, than yes. But let’s consider “purpose” for a second. Of those businesses that were created on jumping on certain opportunities, are the ones who created those businesses happier or better because of it? Well, that’s the debate. And in this episode, you’ll hear all about opportunity versus purpose debate. I think you’ll even be surprised at some of what comes up. So take a listen. Listen To The Episode Here Opportunity Versus Purpose Highlights How and why we constantly create businesses based on opportunity first. Why finding a need and filling it is ALWAYS a good thing. Why creating a business based around your purpose is not done as much. Are entrepreneurs happier when creating an opportunity based business or purpose-driven business? Why having a purpose may not actually exist and is something we created. What your purpose could actually be instead.Where the idea of having a purpose comes from. Why a purpose-based business can be a challenging thing to create. Why your true identity is so important with all of this. What it is we are all searching for in the end.How opportunity based industries and businesses have created the world we live in today. Is it good to create a business based on your passion? How to approach an opportunity to make sure it’ll be the right one for you. What has happened to entrepreneurs when they focus solely on opportunities. Oh, and one last thing… I could have recorded this and spoken all about the incredible opportunities out there. Or spoken about all sorts of business strategies. But when it comes down to it… Those strategies all end up leading back to the same elements. So I thought it would be good to hear about those pieces in this episode on opportunity versus purpose. What It’s Like To Go Through An Identity Awareness Experience With Taryn Landberg
Going through an identity awareness moment, or what others may call an identity crisis is a very interesting experience for entrepreneurs. Sometimes you hear about these experiences after the fact, but most times you won’t hear about them at all. That’s because entrepreneurs don’t want to show vulnerability. Another big reason you don’t hear much about these identity experiences is because… They’ve built something and are afraid that their identity shift can hurt the business they created. The original business was built with people who “resonated” with who that entrepreneur was before their identity shift. After their identity shift, it’s possible a lot of the original audience, customers, and followers may not gel with the “new version” of that entrepreneur. So there are a lot of fears around that and that’s why you don’t hear much about these experiences with entrepreneurs. The reality is any sort of identity shift as an entrepreneur can be a scary experience. But there is always A HUGE awakening and aha moment that happens. Sometimes there are multiple moments. It’s kind of like you were looking through an eye hole in the door for your whole life and then when you go through an identity awareness experience… It’s like the door was just completely opened for you and you can see so much more. There’s nothing quite like this. So I’m always on the lookout for entrepreneurs who are open about this and actually talking about it. I’m especially on the lookout for ones who are in the middle of it. And that’s exactly where Taryn Landberg is and she’s been very open about it. The moment I noticed this I reached out and asked if we could do an interview on all of this. And she said yes. Just so you know, to have an entrepreneur actually share this experience publicly while they’re in the middle of it is an extremely rare thing. That’s why I’m so excited to share this interview with her. So if you want to get a peek into what happens during an identity awareness experience and how incredible it is… Then you’ll really enjoy this interview with Taryn. Listen To Taryn’s Interview Here Episode Highlights What it’s like to be right in the middle of a massive life shift that she’s never felt before. What type of businesses Taryn has been operating. How she got into those businesses. What is an identity awareness experience and why she doesn’t feel it’s an identity crisis. What triggered her identity awareness. What life was like leading up to her aha moment. How she knew something needed to change. What was happening to her prior to her new awareness. Why so much of what she was doing just felt forced. Why she didn’t move into a different direction earlier. What the actual feeling was like when she had her identity awareness moment. What type of fears she has in moving forward. What the next phase of her life is going to be?What her new actual Identity and focus is?How she feels now even after just a couple of weeks of her awareness. What pieces other entrepreneurs should watch out for to see if they’re “stuck.” And if you want to follow Taryn’s identity awareness journey you can check her out on Facebook. How Entrepreneur Carrie Kukuda Is Dealing With The Covid 19 Pandemic
So I decided to reach out to Carrie Kukuda and ask if I could interview her about what her experience has been like dealing with the COVID-19 pandemic as a business owner. I wanted to get her take on all of it. That’s because she always has a unique way of looking at things. What was interesting (which you’ll hear in the interview) is how during this pandemic she had to make the choice to renew the lease for her business or find something else. And in times like this… That’s a pretty scary thing to face. But I knew Carrie. I knew that she’d look at all of this differently than a lot of other entrepreneurs. And what’s cool is that she didn’t disappoint in our interview. Plus, I took a little bit of a different approach on this podcast. It was more of “having a conversation” instead of a heavy focus on the X’s and O’s. That was because this whole COVID thing is a human challenge. And sometimes simply talking with entrepreneurs like Carrie and just having a conversation can be much more useful than trying to pull out the tiniest of details. So this makes for not only a good podcast episode but also a good conversation. Now, if you are interested in the X’s and O’s… Then don’t worry there’s a bunch of that as well. For example, if you want to know how she designed her business so that COVID didn’t impact it that much… You’ll hear all about that and a whole bunch of other cool info. So if you want to know about how Carrie is managing the COVID-19 pandemic from a business and personal perspective then you’ll enjoy this one. Listen To Carrie’s Episode Here Episode Highlights Where Carrie is right now during the whole pandemic. What life has been like for her during this time. What the biggest personal and professional challenges have been. Why she decided to move her business to a new location during the pandemic. What kind of challenges that move presented to her.How she knew the new location was the right choice for her.How her landlord was being a pain during this time and how she stood up for herself. How long it took to make the move. What she’s doing to make sure her clients were being taken care of.What she did and continues to do to take care of herself. How other entrepreneurs can see this pandemic as a positive. How the pandemic is reflecting what’s really important for people and not just businesses. Why taking time for yourself during everything that is going on is so important right now.How she designed to operate her business so that COVID didn’t impact it much. What steps other business owners can take to keep themselves sane and moving forward right now.How choosing what you can control right now is important. And if you’d like to know more about Carrie or if you’d like to connect with her then you can do that by reaching her on Facebook. How JR Burgess Went From Overworked And Burned Out To A Brand New Life, Career, And Mission
Overworked and burned out are two things that entrepreneurs know all too well. In fact, there’s one more element you can throw in there that we know better than we should, and that is stress. And JR Burgess was in the middle of an overwhelming, long-term phase of all it. Life was hectic, crazy, and it really wasn’t the kind of life that he wanted for himself or his family. The constant feeling of being overworked and burned out combined with the stress was just grinding JR down. Regardless of how the businesses were growing, personally, everything was adding up. And eventually it just took too much of a toll. And in this episode you’ll hear the whole story of what life was really like for JR during this time and how he finally overcame it. Now, he’s living a life with a much better balance, a bigger mission, a better family life, and he’s just… happier. For so many entrepreneurs, this is really what we want. It’s not all about the money. And you’ll hear how JR was able to make it happen. Listen To JR’s Interview Here Episode Highlights What life was like for JR just a few years ago.How life got to the point it was at and what it was doing to him and his family. What JR’s biggest limiting belief was that he carried around his whole life. How this limiting belief held him back. What type of lifestyle JR was living. How alcohol, work, and weed became major addictions for him. When it was that he realized something was not right. What type of businesses JR was involved in and what those businesses were doing to him. What mentor/coach JR studied that helped make some major changes. How a shaman helped JR discover what the big hole was in life and helped him see it.How JR feels after discovering what needed to get better. What steps he took to shift to a positive direction. How he views work, life, and everything else now. What his family life is like, and why it’s more important to him now than it ever was.Where his business and professional life is at right now.Why “getting permission” was so important for him when he didn’t even realize it.What steps other entrepreneurs can take to make big shifts in their lives if something isn’t right. What it’s like to feel healthier, happier, and have a more balanced life. Oh, and one last thing which you’ll pick up as a theme throughout the interview and that is… Feeling overworked and burned out is NOT something that should be worn as a badge of honor. If you’re an entrepreneur you’re probably building your business and life for freedom. And you can hear JR talk about how this was what he was searching for but he was getting the opposite. And that’s because he believed to get the freedom, the happiness, the peace he wanted he believed he had to “go all out all of the time.” At the end that’s not what got him there. It was a completely different direction that allowed him to make this huge shift. And you’ll hear all about it in his interview.
