What site you on?
What Site You On? Online dating and prison have something in common: people are curious how you got there. When you tell people you are online dating, one of the first responses you get from friends is “what site you on?” It’s usually asked directly with a strong scent of curiosity mixed with a firm interest in actually knowing. It’s rather similar to how inmates ask the newly convicted prisoner “what you in for?” Both questions are delivered the same way. People are just as interested why you got sentenced behind bars as to how you are wasting your time looking for love on the internet. We seem to be curious about two things: love and crime. People don’t seem to be curious about much else. “Oh you ate cereal today? What kind you eat?” You never really hear that. Even if you are a serial killer. (Hello! I know that joke is beneath me, but I had to…ok, I’ll keep it moving). I think it’s just judgment, because rarely is there a follow-up question. “What site you on?” and “what you in for?” is usually followed by that person giving a look of concern with a bit of shame and then walking away to do something else. Leaving you there wondering why you are on that site, or why you ‘did it’. People want to know ‘what site you are on’, but never other things…like what cereal you choose to eat We should note that online dating and prison do have things in common. Let’s explore… You can ‘wink’ to break the ice or get someone else’s attention Usually at least a 6 month or 1 year commitment involved with no getting out early (or your money back). And just like with online dating most prisoners rarely look like their mugshots. It’s just a shame. If someone asks ‘what site you on?’, definitely make sure they are talking about online dating, because if you said “America’s Most Wanted”. That might not be the site they were expecting to hear. Then again, their follow-up question would probably be “what you on there for?”. In the comments tell me what site you are on, or if you are in prison…what you are in for. Lesson: The site we need to be on is ‘our site’…your site in life. We need to show up for ourselves and when we do that we become very attractive to anyone and everyone.
