10. The Recovery Road to Leadership
One of the themes of the the Behind The Image Leadership podcast has been the importance of our origin story. Sometimes our origin story is shaped by something that's happened to us. But other times, it's a result of a personal struggle or a battle with addiction. And the same tools that help someone find sobriety can then be incredibly powerful in leading individuals, teams, or organizations. On today's episode I have a conversation with Kate Buckner. She's a long time friend, a vocational pastor, and someone who's leadership approach has been shaped by her past experience with addiction and recovery. She shares very openly about her journey of healing and transformation. Her authenticity and honesty is refreshing, as she talks very candidly about what she's learned and how she's continuing to learn and grow as a leader. 09. Becoming an Every Day Leader
When we think of ‘Leadership’ we often think of organizational leadership: someone who lead a company, a small business, a nonprofit, a church, etc. But is that the only definition? The only requirement? Because if that’s our only definition, we may be devaluing the leadership and influence of those who are leading in other ways. And you might be missing out on an opportunity to change a life! On today's episode, I wanted to talk about the importance of Every Day Leadership and the 5 steps you can take to become an every day leader! Don't miss today's episode!  Connect with Rick: www.rickguttersohn.com Join the Behind The Image Facebook page: www.facebook.com/behindtheimagepodcast SOCIAL MEDIA Instagram: www.instagram.com/rickguttersohn LinkedIn: www.linkedin.com/in/rickguttersohn Twitter: www.twitter.com/rickguttersohn

08. Is It Time For a Leadership MRI?
Have you ever experienced one or more of the following: Decreasing revenue, unresolved conflict, declining sales, high staff turnover, or controlling management? Each of these are often symptoms of something wrong beneath the surface that needs attention. And similar to a physical injury, often the best way to gain the necessary awareness of the problem in order to regain functionality is to have an MRI. On today’s episode, you will learn three simple steps on how to begin the process of a Leadership MRI and why this process is so important to your team and/or your organization. 07. Let's Have a 'Deep Talk' About Our Leadership Values and Beliefs
Most of us have heard the word 'values' in the context of an organization. We may even walk into a building and see a large sign on the wall that contains certain words that reflect an organizations values. But how often do we take a moment to reflect on why those particular values are so 'valuable' to us? What do those values reveal about what we believe? And what are the stories that ultimately create or shape our beliefs? As leaders, we must be intentional about answering these questions so that there isn't a disconnect between our stated values and our actions, behaviors, practices, or priorities.  On this episode I am joined by my long time friend, Paul Anleitner, a vocational pastor and the host of the 'Deep Talks' podcast. Paul has a unique educational background in theology and philosophy and shares his thoughts on identifying the stories that shape our values and beliefs. He also discusses his 'Hierarchy of Values' tool that can help people intentionally identify any differences between their idealized values and their actual values based on what they dedicate their time, energy, and attention to. 06. Why You SHOULD Value Emotional Leadership
Have you ever heard the phrase “Let’s keep emotions out of this” regarding an important meeting or decision? Or how about the phrase “Don’t be emotional”? What could happen if we stopped viewing emotions as something that gets in the way of effective leadership and instead we embraced that our emotions can be one of our greatest leadership strengths? On today's episode I am joined by Matt Swartz, LMSW, a clinical therapist, leadership coach and business consultant who specializes in emotional awareness and trains leaders and managers on the importance of emotionally healthy leadership. You will want to have a pen and notepad handy for this episode! 05. Leaders: Just Show Up!
There are numerous books and assessments that discuss various leadership styles and gifts that allow us to make an impact. However, one of the least discussed and most underrated leadership strengths is OUR PRESENCE!  In this episode, Rick speaks candidly about the impact that just showing up and being present can make, sharing both personal and professional examples of when showing up made a significant difference in someone's life. And in classic BEHIND THE IMAGE style, he talks about shoulder shimmying and shares a story of a 'tool party' gone wrong... If you'd like to connect with Rick, you can visit www.rickguttersohn.com

04. Resilient Leadership After Tragedy
There is an old-school management mindset that says 'you keep your personal life at home and keep your work life at work.' But what happens when tragedy strikes and shatters both your work and personal life simultaneously?  On today's episode you'll hear a very personal story from Maryellen Lewandowski. She is a business owner, wife, and mom who's entire world was thrown into chaos in one day. Yet, instead of folding, she demonstrated Resilient Leadership through her commitment to just show up. And as she healed over time, her experience has changed her and helped her grow as a person and as a leader. I hope that regardless of your life circumstances, you can take something away from this episode on resilient leadership.

03. The Importance of Your Origin Story
We all have a story. But we don't often think about how our story can enhance our career or our leadership. On today's episode, I have a discussion with Brennan Wood, the Executive Director of The Dougy Center in Portland Oregon about how our origin story can be one of the greatest leadership tools we have. Brennan is an example of someone who's allowed her story to fuel her professional career and is now serving people and touching lives all across the country as a result.

02. Taking the Leadership Leap
At some point you've probably felt something inside - a calling, a purpose, etc. that has inspired you to take action. But the negative thoughts can come just as quickly and speak to us as loudly: 'what if you fail?' or 'how do you know this will work?'  On today's episode, we speak with Natalie Thibault about her experience taking the leadership leap, going from the security and stability of a good career job to stepping out on her own as a new entrepreneur and business leader on a journey with an unknown outcome. Whether you work in the nonprofit sector, a small business, or church ministry, each of you can learn something from Natalie's story.
