38 - Nuance in the Pandemic Zeitgeist ft. Andreas M. Antonopoulos
Andreas M. Antonopoulos has made a name for himself as an outspoken bitcoin advocate, author, and entrepreneur, well-known for his impassioned speeches on decentralization, privacy, and personal sovereignty in a world dominated by centralized states. In this conversation, he joins The Multiversity Project to discuss the pandemic Zeitgeist - COVID19 and its origins, conspiratorial thinking, the economic crisis, civil unrest in the US, and the reactions of governments around the world. In an information landscape that seems more and more starkly divided into different political camps, Andreas offers a refreshingly calm, respectful perspective that crosses ideological boundaries. Those who come in with certain expectations may find his views confusing, which, as he argues, is exactly as it should be. 0:00 Intro 1:45 How are you dealing with the pandemic? 6:35 More concerned about virus or the economy? 8:50 Was the virus created in a lab? 12:05 Why has conspiratorial thinking caught on with smart, thoughtful people? 14:48 Government's reaction? 16:22 Wearisome culture war 17:45 Does Andreas think governments have overreacted or underreacted to COVID19? 35:15 The shit hasn't hit the fan yet, but it will soon 36:30 Cantillon Effect 37:00 Is this bitcoin's moment? 39:00 Backdoor bank bailout through "stimulus" 40:47 Socialism, Anti-capitalism, UBI, George Floyd protests, Insurrectionism, CHAZ 53:15 Where does Andreas stand on social welfare programs? 58:35 Disaster scenarios for the US elections in November 1:04:23 Boomers, generational power dynamics, civil war, 1968 1:08:00 Peaceful revolution: truth, justice, and reconciliation 1:09:48 What makes Andreas hopeful about the future? 1:13:00 Is Andreas a progressive/Democrat? 1:18:00 Does Andreas eschew labels? 1:22:00 Is Andreas anti-government?/Justice-as-a-service 1:23:45 Decentralization 1:29:30 Discernment/sense-making methods 1:31:38 Why is Andreas not concerned about radical leftism? 1:41:12 What new initiatives and technology is Andreas working on currently? 37 - The Eight-Circuit Brain: Antero Alli
Consciousness development is an area that all too often gets bogged down with a whole lot of theory, and not a lot of practice. That's why author, filmmaker, and astrologer Antero Alli has focused his books 'Angel Tech' and 'The 8-Circuit Brain' on embodied practice, drawing from his experiences in paratheatre to create multiple courses of rituals and exercises. These practices expand on the work of Timothy Leary and Robert Anton Wilson to awaken all eight circuits of consciousness, and increase intelligence. In this episode, Katy and Arielle are joined by Antero Alli to discuss the eight circuit model, Antero's experiences with Robert Anton Wilson, paratheatre, and consciousness development, as well as our own experience with Antero's rituals in practice. The Eight Circuits: C-1 Physio-Biological Intelligence; the will to survive C-2 Emotional-Territorial Intelligence; the will to power C-3 Symbolic-Conceptual Intelligence; the will to reason C-4 Social-Moral Intelligence; the will to interact with others C-5 Somatic Intelligence of Body Wisdom and Five Senses C-6 Intuitive-Psychic Intelligence of the Brain, Spine, & CNS C-7 Mytho-Genetic Intelligence of DNA and the Planetary Entity C-8 Quantum-Nonlocal Intelligence of Subatomic interactions 0:00:00 Introduction 0:01:37 Antero Alli’s background, meeting Robert Anton Wilson, and increasing intelligence 0:04:30 Integrating the 8-circuit model with paratheatre and ritual 0:07:50 No-form and Zazen meditation 0:11:39 Introduction to the 8-circuit model of consciousness, the 8 circuits 0:20:26 Shocks and anchors, and the pitfalls of circuit 3 (rationalism) 0:24:20 “The mind is a liar and a whore!” - when circuit 3 (rationalism) gets stuck in a loop 0:32:26 The role of circuit 6, “the second attention” and “the metaprogrammer” 0:39:18 Imprint vulnerability 0:40:58 The Coronavirus, social isolation, the reset, and the void (circuits 4 and 8) 0:51:24 Finding your “integrity point” - Arielle and Katy’s experience with one exercise of the course 0:57:27 Paratheatrical.com and verticalpool.com LEARN MORE: https://www.verticalpool.com https://paratheatrical.com Antero Alli, "The Eight-Circuit Brain" www.amazon.com/dp/B00RC8SFO6 SUPPORT THE MULTIVERSITY PROJECT: Patreon: https://patreon.com/multiversityproject FIND US HERE: Website: https://multiversityproject.co Spotify: https://open.spotify.com/show/0SlADNURV6CzCcGfnh5mZG Libsyn: https://directory.libsyn.com/shows/view/id/multiversityproject Instagram: https://www.instagram.com/multiversityproject/ Facebook: https://www.facebook.com/multiversityproject/ Twitter: https://twitter.com/@multiversitypro Telegram: https://t.me/multiversitypodcast Minds: https://www.minds.com/multiversityproject And wherever podcasts are found...

36- Paying For It: Chester Brown on Life as a John and Prostitution in the Bible
After great success with his popular graphic novel on Métis leader Louis Riel in Canada, author Chester Brown took his work in a decidedly different direction, shocking and alienating many of his fans with the release of 'Paying for It,' an autobiographical graphic novel depicting his life paying for sex with prostitutes. Chester's chosen lifestyle, rejecting romantic relationships to pursue a long-term exclusive (paying) relationship with a sex worker, brings up interesting questions about the nature of love and the responsibilities (or chains) that may come with it. And Chester's latest graphic novel, 'Mary Wept Over the Feet of Jesus,' brings up some even more interesting questions about prostitution in the bible. We start by discussing his process as a graphic novelist. We then go on to talk about his life as a john, how he got into paying for sex, and where it's led him today. We then have a discussion/debate on the ethics and legality of prostitution, touching on many surprising angles to this controversial topic. Finally, we discuss prostitution in the bible, a favorite topic of Chester's, and what it might tell us about God and morality. If you like this content, please like, subscribe, or leave a comment. We'd love to hear from you. 35- John Vervaeke on Time, Faith and Myth During the Time of Coronavirus
The Coronavirus has thrust the world into a crisis of arguably biblical proportions. And with that, people are falling back onto mytho-poetic ways of thinking. This urgent crisis has come in the middle of a larger, more general crisis of meaning, and the situation as a whole has left society flailing. It seems we find ourselves in a kairos, or critical moment, for the future of humanity. In this episode, Dr. John Vervaeke, award-winning lecturer on psychology, cognitive science and Buddhist psychology, joins us to discuss the interrelationships of time, faith, and mythology in the context of the Coronavirus crisis and the broader Meaning Crisis. How is the current crisis affecting our sense of-- or perhaps the actual phenomenon-- of time? Do present events charge parts of our past with new energy? In times of uncertainty, are certain forms of faith detrimental or even toxic? Can we use this moment towards a new future with new forms of organization based on small world networks rather than static, top-down hierarchies? And how can we cultivate the 'finesse' required to navigate a transition like this? 1:20 How is John on a personal level? 5:00 This may not be our only pandemic. 7:30 Do we avoid damaging the planet, or do we "weather the storm" and grow stronger? 9:00 Does capitalism lead to pandemics? 12:20 There is no 'going back to normal. 14:00 Do people feel more meaning during the Coronavirus crisis? 17:00 Surrealism 23:00 Right hemisphere/mytho-poetic thinking 29:00 The medieval imagery of modern events 30:00 Zach Stein "A War Broke Out in Heaven" 31:30 "Meaning Kairos" 32:45 Decentralizing education 38:00 Revolution of the dynamically recursive small world network vs the iron-age hierarchy 42:40 Warm data 47:00 Messianic time 55:15 Attractors of the new way 57:20 Reformulation of the notion of faith 1:03:00 How to avoid the utopian fallacy 1:08:40 "I won't live a life of fear"/"The unexamined life is not worth living" 1:13:00 Flow states/the myth of Jesus 1:14:40 Sage myths and hubris myths forgotten, warrior myths overemphasized 1:16:30 Digital campfires REFERENCES & MORE: John Vervaeke, 'Awakening from the Meaning Crisis' https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=54l8_ewcOlY Zachary Stein, 'A War Broke Out in Heaven' https://www.whatisemerging.com/opinions/covid-19-a-war-broke-out-in-heaven The Meaning Kairos: our current turning point in meaning w/ Peter Limberg and the Online Stoa https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=yoi9GE9e_vM SUPPORT THE MULTIVERSITY PROJECT: Patreon: https://patreon.com/multiversityproject FIND US HERE: Website: https://multiversityproject.co YouTube: https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCZZZwmvNIcYIacoa_vGHKQQ Spotify: https://open.spotify.com/show/0SlADNURV6CzCcGfnh5mZG Libsyn: https://directory.libsyn.com/shows/view/id/multiversityproject Instagram: https://www.instagram.com/multiversityproject/ Facebook: https://www.facebook.com/multiversityproject/ Twitter: https://twitter.com/@multiversitypro Telegram: https://t.me/multiversitypodcast Minds: https://www.minds.com/multiversityproject And wherever podcasts are found...

34 - The Fed's COVID-19 Plan: For the People or for the Banks? Ft. Victoria Guida
The US Federal Reserve ("the Fed") is putting out a coronavirus rescue package- but is it really going to help, or sink the economy? The Federal Reserve, the massive, mysterious organization at the heart of the global financial system, has just issued a ton of new money and pumped it into the economy as a response to the Covid-19 crisis. The plan is to "unfreeze" the economy and prevent a lockdown which would devastate individuals and companies alike. But over the long-term, could this kind of rescue package do more harm than good? In this fun, informative, and often mind-boggling episode, we sit down with Victoria Guida, a financial policy reporter at Politico, to hear the inside scoop on the Fed's response to the global pandemic. We then do a deep dive into what the Fed is, attempt to wrap our minds around its confusing and fractal-like powers of money creation, examine the incentive structures involved, and hear an insider's perspective on the motivations and preoccupations of the Fed - both the institution, and the humans within it. Finally, we weigh in with our own opinions- are the Fed's actions helping or hurting the economy, and what players may be at an advantage in this system? Be sure to follow Victoria on Twitter @vtg2 for the latest news on the Fed and financial regulations. Ep. XXXIII: Relationship Anarchy- Is Monogamy a Kink? Ft. Adam Golding
For methodological anarchists, anarchy = skepticism of power. Relationship Anarchy, therefore, is skepticism of power in relationships. Is it valid to prioritize romantic relationships over platonic relationships? Is 'enforcing' sexual exclusivity an unjustifiable form of control over one's partner? Is the societal norm of monogamy creating a situation where intimacy is suppressed, strong community ties are difficult to form, and people at large are easier to oppress? Would widespread polyamory exacerbate social problems, including the issues of incels? Is monogamy a natural, healthy way to love that leads to profound intimacy and depth? Is it an inherently oppressive institution? Or is it perhaps just a power kink? In this revealing episode, The Multiversity Project is joined by special guest Adam Golding. Join us as we draw from philosophy, politics, and personal experience to challenge our notions of what healthy relationships look like. Episode XXXII: Interview with an Incel: When Sexual Rejection Turns to Hate
Incels, or "involuntary celibates", make up an online subculture of primarily straight men who, for one reason or another, consider themselves unable to attract a mate. Peering inside incel forums reveals an dark, ideological world characterized by self loathing or self pity, hopelessness, misanthropy, misogyny, and racism. Incels who have taken the "black pill" believe that they have accepted deep, uncomfortable 'truths' about genetic determinism, 'female nature, and their impacts on society, while the rest of us are living in a "blue pilled" or "red pilled" fantasies. In light of recent incel mass murders, and a feeling of growing discontent among dejected males in Western Society, The Multiversity Project feel that it is important to understand this growing movement. What causes some people to turn towards hatred? And is the twisted ideology of the Blackpill pointing towards some truths that mainstream society may be missing? Joined by special guest, "John Doe." Listen for an interview, conversation, and debate with a member of one of the most controversial ideologies of our time.

Ep. XXX: Love, Meaning, & The Body Politic in Crisis ft. Dr. John Vervaeke
Love, like Western society in general, is in the midst of a meaning crisis. Online dating has contributed to the commodification of relationships, singledom is on the rise, and marriage just doesn't seem to mean what it used to. Romanticism, it seems, has failed us as a philosophy of love. Dr. John Vervaeke, cognitive scientist at the University of Toronto and creator of the series 'Awakening from the Meaning Crisis,' joins The Multiversity Project (three single Millennials) to break down Romanticism and build up a concept of enduring, meaningful love. Along the way, we draw parallels to society at large-- as it seems the political left and right are experiencing a communication breakdown. Episode XXIX: Explaining Steven Hicks: Jordan Peterson and "Postmodern Neo-Marxism"?
Postmodernism: an influential philosophical movement with important insight on the nature of language, knowledge, culture and reality itself? Or, as some would suggest, a thinly veiled Marxist movement pushing its agenda through academia and society at large? Controversial professor Jordan Peterson has warned of postmodern neo-Marxism: a supposed ideology influencing academics to prioritize identity politics over truth and reason. As a matter of fact, for many postmodernists, ‘truth’ and ‘reason’ are not meaningful goals to be pursued. Peterson’s ideas are influenced by Stephen Hicks’ and his book “Explaining Postmodernism." In it, he argues that both the radical left and the radical right share common roots in the same philosophical linneage which brought us postmodernism. In episode XXIX, we break down postmodernism - both the ideas themselves, and their possible political undertones. We discuss the evidence, including the writings of Foucault and Derrida, to see whether there is truth to this idea of “postmodern neomarxism.” And we take a look at what right-wing postmodernism might look like, and whether traces of it already exist in the alt-right, or even in the works of Peterson himself. 2:08 What is postmodernism, and what is modernism? 17:10 Foucault, the fundamental question of the left, and why postmodernists seek to understand the perspectives of the oppressed. 28:30 Why postmodernism is so frustrating to talk about 36:10 Is philosophy fundamentally political? Why there is no sitting on the fence in postmodernism. 43:12 Postmodernist pedophile conspiracy?! 48:00 Introducing Stephen Hicks-- and his critics. 58:40 Is all this criticism of Stephen Hicks just postmodernist propaganda? 1:02:15 Agenda-pushing, ideological possession, and gender politics. 1:06:56 Stephen Hicks’ argument: tracing the lineage of postmodernism, and the common roots of right and left radical collectivism. 1:21:40 Why is it socially acceptable to call yourself a communist, but not a fascist? 1:32:20 Is postmodernism a real philosophy, or just a leftist front? 1:37:00 Is Jordan Peterson really a postmodernist? 1:43:36 Imagining a right-wing postmodernism. 2:01:35 Does epistemology lead to morality? Furthermore, does libertarianism lead to fascism? 2:08:48 Is Jordan Peterson right about postmodern neomarxism? 2:14:00 Our 'final' takes. 2:30:45 Diagnosing Slavoj Zizek REFERENCES & RESOURCES: Stephen Hicks, "Explaining Postmodernism" https://www.amazon.com/Explaining-Postmodernism-Expanded-Skepticism-Socialism/dp/B07JVJC55G/ref=sr_1_1?keywords=explaining+postmodernism&qid=1575488445&sr=8-1 Cuck Philosophy, "A Critique of Stephen Hicks' 'Explaining Postmodernism'" https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=EHtvTGaPzF4 Contrapoints, "Jordan Peterson" https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4LqZdkkBDas FIND US HERE: Website: https://multiversityproject.co Spotify: https://open.spotify.com/show/0SlADNURV6CzCcGfnh5mZG Libsyn: https://directory.libsyn.com/shows/view/id/multiversityproject Instagram: https://www.instagram.com/multiversityproject/ Facebook: https://www.facebook.com/multiversityproject/ Twitter: https://twitter.com/@multiversitypro Telegram: https://t.me/multiversitypodcast Minds: https://www.minds.com/multiversityproject And wherever podcasts are found...

Ep. XVII: Why Economists Suck ft. Justin Longo
They say money makes the world go round-- and economics explains how. But despite our best efforts and most sophisticated model-making, most economic predictions end up being woefully inaccurate. The lesser-known Austrian School of Economics has a different take. Are governments and even nobel-prize winning economists making some basic errors, leading to crises like the 2008 housing bubble? Is tinkering with the economy a fruitless effort, destined only to make things worse? Does the Austrian school of economics have some insights that better explain the patterns we see in our world? In episode XXVII, Katy and Chris are joined by Austrian economics advocate Justin Longo of podcast Longo Convo and libertarian thinktank, The Independence Institute (see links below). We’ll look at the global financial and political systems through the lens of Austrian economics- a school of thought that has led many innocent econ nerds to become anarchists. What can Austrian economics tell us about policy, and what does it miss? 0:00 - Introduction 3:15 - The economics of anarchy 9:05 - Differences between Austrian economics, Keynesian economics, and other neoclassical schools 17:25 - Scientism vs abstract theories: why economic predictions are always wrong 21:15 - The One Lesson 22:30 - The Broken Window Fallacy, real wealth production, and the importance of the unseen 30:30 - Austrian business cycle theory, and the insanity of negative interest rates 36:00 - Are jobs ‘good?’ Minimum wage? Ep. XXVI: Bitcoin, Cypherpunks, Anarchy, and Pokémon ft. Juan Galt
Is Bitcoin the wave of the future, the tulip craze of today, a revolutionary force to weaken the state, or some combination of all three? The Multiversity Project’s Chris Guida and Katy Kelly are joined by entrepreneur, public speaker, and crypto journalist Juan Galt for a comprehensive discussion of cryptocurrency: the tech, the economics, the movement, the political implications, and the potential to change the world, for better or for worse. Ep. XXV: Stoicism & Marcus Aurelius: Useful, Dated, or Dangerous?
“Death and life, success and failure, pain and pleasure, wealth and poverty, all these happen to good and bad alike, and they are neither noble, nor shameful, neither good nor bad.” Meditations by Marcus Aurelius was written almost 2000 years ago, but it’s still a popular book among philosophically-inclined rulers. But is Meditations truly profound philosophy, or is it overrated? And could it still act as a useful guide in the modern age? We’ll be looking at several quotes by Marcus Aurelius and using them as the basis of a discussion which spans questions of whether stoicism leaves you vulnerable to psychopaths, whether stoicism is anti-individualist, whether stoicism spurs productivity or is de-motivating, and whether the universe is fundamentally ordered or chaotic, static or dynamic. By the end of this discussion, you’ll enjoy a far deeper understanding of stoicism, the enigmatic Marcus Aurelius, and perhaps even morality itself. Episode XXIII: Vegan vs. Ex-vegan vs. Vegetarian vs. Paleo ft. Saad Khan
Approximately 56 billion animals are slaughtered every year in the U.S. alone. Vegans claim that this practice is nothing more than unnecessary cruelty- harming animals and destroying the environment in the process. But is veganism really the best option for human health, and for the health of the planet? Join us for a rousing discussion between a vegan, an ex-vegan for health reasons, a vegetarian, an ex-vegetarian, and a paleo eater that covers the topic of veganism from many angles. -Is it unethical to kill animals, and why? -Can certain animal products, such as grass-fed beef, actually be positive for the environment and provide a happy life to animals? -Is veganism elitist? -Are 'happy farms' a viable option to feed the world? -Is the vegan diet healthful, or is it rife with potential nutritional pitfalls? Is it even possible to sustain health as a long-term vegan? Featuring special guest, Toronto vegan activist Saad Khan. Episode XXII: Parasocial Relationships
Most of us have had an experience with a celebrity, content creator, fictional character, or even an inanimate object that became an important figure in our lives-- sometimes like a surrogate friend, parent, or leader. These one-sided relationships can often be very positive- think of the impact that Mr. Rogers has had on many children. However, they also have the potential to become pathological. And in the age of the internet where the feedback loop between content creator and fan becomes ever more tight, parasocial relationships are becoming quite the phenomenon. Episode XXI: Psychopaths Decoded: Monsters Among Us?
Psychopaths walk in our midst, predatory creatures who don’t have the full range of human emotions, only really knowing how to see others as prey. According to a popular statistic, 1% of the general population are psychopaths. Most of them aren’t serial killers as portrayed in the media, but they are more toxic people who look to drain you of your time, energy and money. In the book “The Psychopath Code” by Pieter Hintjens, he explains what happens when you deal with psychopaths, how they think, and how to defend yourself against them. Hintjens has no psychological training, and instead relies on his experience and intellect to notice the patterns and devise strategies. Does he know what he’s talking about? In this episode, we discuss these points: Do psychopaths even exist? Are they as Hintjens describes them? Can a person be half a psychopath? Is there a link between masculinity and psychopathy? What are our personal experiences? Can psychopaths be good people? What’s the deal with OJ Simpson? What happened in the libertarian community in Acapulco? What do we gain or lose looking at the world through this lens? Note: OJ Simpson was found not guilty of murder in a criminal trial, but liable for wrongful death in a civil suit. Episode XX: Writers, Blocked- Mental Illness, Epilepsy, & Creativity
“I often feel like I’m completely wasting my life by trying to be creative.” ---- What causes writer's block? And on that note, what causes creativity? The Multiversity Project set out to do an episode on writer's block, the creative impulse to write, writing's relationships to bipolar disorder, depression, and temporal lobe epilepsy, and possible solutions to block- psychological, psychiatric, and otherwise. Through that exploration, we came out with a very different story- one of personal blocks, emotional battles, and the struggle to create. Is it possible to be a great artist and mentally well at the same time? Inspired by "The Midnight Disease" by Alice Weaver Flaherty.
