STRONG FATHERS, STRONG DAUGHTERS is a family comedy streaming on Pure Flix. A wealthy businessman named Steve Parston is surprised by his oldest daughter, Abby’s, sudden engagement to a missionary. Steve wants to support his first-born daughter, but he’s disappointed she wants to do missions and not continue in their family business. Steve wants to protect his daughter and hatches a plan to keep Abby close to home. However, when his scheming fails, he must reconcile supporting his daughter versus wanting to protect her. Will Steve’s selfish motives get the best of him? Or, will he be able to sacrifice his best wishes for his daughter and learn to love his family selflessly?

DC LEAGUE OF SUPER-PETS is a comical animated adventure involving Superman’s dog, Krypto, and his misfit shelter friends who get superpowers. The super-pets fight to save Superman from Lex Luther’s former laboratory guinea pig, Lulu, who kidnaps Superman. They try to get help from the Justice League of superheroes, but they too are captured and imprisoned by Lulu. It’s now up to Krypto, who has momentarily lost his superpowers after eating kryptonite poisoned cheese, and his zany animal shelter friends to save Superman and the entire Justice League.

VENGEANCE is a mystery thriller. The story is about a shallow, condescending, ambitious New York City magazine writer, Ben, who’s enticed by Ty, a “good old boy” in West Texas, to investigate the mysterious drug overdose of Ty’s sister, Abby. Ty and his family mistakenly think Abby was Ben’s girlfriend when she lived in New York. In reality, she was just one of Ben’s many conquests. Ty wants Ben to help find the person or persons responsible for Abby’s death and kill them. Of course, Ben says he won’t do that, but he promises to find the killers. However, he really wants to turn Abby’s story into fodder for his new podcast program.

NOPE is a unique horror, science fiction movie from popular black filmmaker Jordan Peele. The hero is a laconic black cowboy, Otis “OJ” Haywood, who’s recently inherited the family horse wrangling ranch in an isolated desert mountain gulch outside Los Angeles. His family, including his recently deceased father, have long rented horses to the entertainment industry, since silent movie days. A strange UFO he’s been tracking kills a bunch of people nearby. So, OJ teams up with his sister, a local Hispanic electronics expert and a quirky white cinematographer to entrap the UFO and destroy it.

LIVE+LOCAL is a six-episode TV sitcom on the Pure Flix streaming outlet. The series focuses on the conflicts, troubles and interplay between Tommy Murphy and Tina Knott, the co-hosts of a morning radio show on a struggling Christian radio station somewhere in Middle America. The morning show includes comical bits and interviews with real Christian artists, comics and authors. When the long-time owner hires a new program director, Tommy and Tina fear the station will be sold to a conglomerate that will end original programming. Stand-up comic and actor Dave Coulier [“Coo-lee-yay”], star of the popular 90s sitcom FULL HOUSE, plays Tommy, and Emily Pendergast of HBO’s Emmy winning VEEP sitcom, plays Tina.

MARCEL THE SHELL WITH SHOES ON is a live action Claymation comedy about a little seashell wearing tennis shoes who has been living with his grandmother at a rental house. Two years ago, the married owners had a big fight, and the man left. However, Marcel’s parents and brother, and their whole community, got scared, hid in a drawer and accidentally were scooped up by the husband. Marcel and his grandma befriend the latest renter. He turns out to be a documentary filmmaker who puts popular videos of them on the internet.

PREY is a science fiction movie on Hulu where a group of Comanche Indian warriors on the American Plains in 1719, led by a hunter and his sister, battles an alien hunter equipped with futuristic technology. Part of the Predator franchise, the movie focuses on Naru and her brother, Taabe, members of the Comanche tribe. Naru wants to hunt with the young men, but the men laugh. Her brother, Taabe, is sympathetic, but he doubts she’s up to the task. Both will be tested when the Predator alien attacks the tribe’s warriors and a group of French fur trappers.

PAWS OF FURY: THE LEGEND OF HANK is an animated action comedy. A dog named Hank wants to become a samurai but the land of samurai cats don’t want him there. Instead, the evil villain, Ika Chu, appoints Hank, knowing he will be awful, to be the local town’s samurai. Ika Chu wants to take over the land by bringing in ninjas to fight Hank. With the help of a washed up, old samurai cat, Hank becomes a better samurai, but in turn, he gets a big ego. Will pride come before the fall?

THIRTEEN LIVES is an intense drama, retelling the true story of the Thai soccer team stranded in a flooded cave in 2018. With 13 lives on the line, the world comes to their rescue. Two professional cave divers from England and Canada devise an ambitious yet dangerous plan to rescue the boys and their coach. Although divers commit to their plan, viewers wonder if their efforts can save the team.

MRS. HARRIS GOES TO PARIS is a charming comedy set in 1957. Mrs. Ada Harris is a perky cleaning woman in London whose missing husband’s finally been ruled killed in World War II. Her clients are mostly wealthier people, except for a ditzy young actress trying to break into show business. One day, Mrs. Harris spots a beautiful Christian Dior dress in the home of a wealthy client who hasn’t paid her in weeks. The woman says the dress cost 500 pounds. Mrs. Harris decides she must have her own Dior dress, but how can she get the money?

WHERE THE CRAWDADS SING is an intriguing mystery. Kya has grown up alone in the Carolina Marsh as an outcast. When she’s put on trial for a young man’s murder, Kya tells her lawyer her whole life story to get him the information he needs. As the movie navigates her life, the audience wonders if Kya really did murder Chase Andrews, or are the townspeople being too judgmental for thinking she’s guilty?

JAZZ FEST: A NEW ORLEANS STORY celebrates 50 years of the Jazz Music and Heritage Festival in New Orleans. The documentary seeks to educate viewers on everything related to jazz music. Several facets of jazz, R&B, soul, and rock music are explored, including their roots in African music and black gospel music. Many artists interviewed convey deep love for the music, and for New Orleans, where the festival originated. Although tough subjects like slavery and Hurricane Katrina are discussed, the documentary pays homage to the festival in a tasteful way.

OBI-WAN KENOBI: PART VI, which is streaming on Disney Plus, is the last episode of the first season. It opens with the rebel spaceship carrying Obi-Wan Kenobi and Princess Leia fleeing from a Star Destroyer commanded by Darth Vader, Obi-Wan’s former student and Leia and Luke’s father. The rebel ship’s captain needs time to fix the hyperdrive. So, Obi-Wan says goodbye to Leia and pilots a flyer to draw Vader away. Meanwhile, Luke’s aunt and uncle take up arms to protect Luke from a wounded rogue warrior consumed by revenge. Luke’s father murdered her Jedi teacher and friends when she was young.

THE SEA BEAST is an animated adventure on Netflix. An orphaned girl named Maisie stows away on board the ship of Captain Crow, who’s chasing a giant sea beast called Red Bluster because it took his eye. Crow orders his adopted adult son, Jacob, to look after Maisie as Crow looked after Jacob when Jacob was young. However, after a battle with Red Bluster, Maisie and Jacob learn that the sea beasts aren’t malicious. Can they save Red Bluster from Captain Crow’s vengeance and convince people to stop killing the sea beasts?

STAR TREK: STRANGE NEW WORLDS is a science fiction series on Paramount Plus about the command of Christopher Pike, the captain of the Starship Enterprise before James Kirk. The first season, which consists of 10 episodes, shows Pike, Mr. Spock, a young Ensign Uhuru, and other crew members facing different obstacles while trying to protect colonists from storms, pirates and aliens, establish peace with new civilizations and explore the galaxy. Meanwhile, Spock has relationship issues with the Vulcan woman to whom he’s betrothed. Also, Captain Pike has prescient visions of a future accident that will change his life drastically.

“The Elysian Kingdom,” the eighth episode of STAR TREK: STRANGE NEW WORLDS, has the Enterprise crew trapped inside a sentient nebula. Doctor M’Benga reads a bedtime story for his disease-ridden daughter. When he reports to the bridge, the crew members dress and act like characters from his daughter’s fantasy book. He discovers the nebula is responsible for brainwashing his friends. Doctor M’Benga plays along with the charade until he figures out how to undo the nebula’s effects.

MINIONS: THE RISE OF GRU is an animated comedy in the DESPICABLE ME franchise. In the movie, Gru is a boy who longs to be a supervillain. Gru wants to join the Vicious 6, but they tease him because of his young age. So, he steals the Zodiac Stone from them. Furious, they chase after him, but Gru gives the stone to a minion, who loses it. Will Gru find the missing stone, or will the Vicious 6 destroy him?

HALLELUJAH: LEONARD COHEN, A JOURNEY, A SONG is an interesting documentary about Leonard Cohen, the writer of the popular song “Hallelujah.” The song has graced the soundtrack of several major movies, including two MOVIEGUIDE® Award winning animated movies, SHREK and SING. The movie contains many interviews of Cohen over the years. It also contains concert footage and interviews with friends, several album producers and engineers, Cohen’s rabbi, a music journalist who’s interviewed Cohen many times, and other musical artists.
