56: How Is Your Body Image Impacting Your Workout Mentality, Mama?
Welcome back to the Mom Boss Tribe Podcast, mama! Today we are talking about TWO very different energies that we bring to our intentional movement - our workouts - and how they come from where you are at with body image. I’m sharing four mindsets/personas where I typically see mamas coming from with their body image and what every it brings to their workouts: Persona 1) Does how you look make you grossed out and want to change your body right now? Short term motivation Driven by looks and not feels Persona 2) Do you feel like you’ve let yourself go? Feeling faulty, broken, like you failed at something Basing worth on looks and not, well, just waking up being enough today Persona 3) Do you compare your workouts to what you think Mama Mindy is doing down the road to look like however she looks? Find yourself pinning free workouts and following instagram fitness models because you feel like that’s the ideal because it isn’t where you are right now Feeling not enough compared to everyone else Persona 4) Do you notice your body craving certain activities? Maybe movement, maybe walks, maybe strength training, maybe an activity that allows you to feel in touch with your body just a little or a lot? Hmmmmm tuning in to what your body is asking of you Acknowledging your body needs something, and you give it My body = something that likes to move, I respect it and give it what it is asking These are all super simple examples, of course. But the energy that we are coming at workouts with matters, mama. You can come from a lack mindset (IE, I’m flawed, broken, gross, not enough) and be driven to workout because you need to not be in the place you are right now. Probably you might have some short term motivation here, but it won’t likely last. What if you come from this energy of respect, love, care….what’s my body asking from me today? Then giving it. Evolving into that. Allowing yourself. Prioritizing yourself. Loving yourself. Building up that hot mess express broken body image? Sure, sometimes you aren’t going to want to workout, but the energy you are coming from here is how can I choose me and my body today? One of these energies feels wonderful, loving, caring, and maybe even NEW for you. One of these energies feels frantic, like you can’t wait to get out of this space and change everything about yourself like yesterday. One of these will make your workouts easier basically forever. With ebbs and flows of course. One of these will make you feel like you need to keep looking and looking and looking for the next program to guarantee your results or else. 55: Why Feeling Heavy May Have Nothing To Do With Food
I wanted to tell you that you might feel heavy sometimes, mama. And that when you feel that way, your natural reaction might be to immediately go to.... I need to workout more. I need to skip carbs today. I should try and lose some weight. We woman like to go to that place easily, sometimes, don't we? Always assuming that when we feel a certain way, we can "fix" it by fixing our size our appearance to fix the feelings we have. Now, while I love a good lifting session, or love a good vegetable alongside something that I'm eating....I also KNOW (trust me, I have years of bullshit unpacked around this topic, lol), that fixing with food and fitness is usually the WORST place to start. Actually, I don't even like to use the term "fixing." I'd prefer investigating, coming to terms with, reflecting, leaning in.....definitely prefer those to "fixing." And that leaning in stuff, well.....the first place to start with those is between our EARS. And so today, I'm sharing WHY the heavy feeling probably has ZERO to do with your food or fitness. Why things get to go your way just because they get to and not because you had to do/earn/sacrifice/struggle for all the good things to come your way. Which......wires us to look for more struggles and see less good. Feed your brain like you would feed your body. You know what, mama? Sometimes self care doesn't feel like it is super fun. Sometimes self care doesn't feel like it makes sense. And sometimes self care feels really awkward, and messy. But....as we keep going....we get more and more clear on WHAT is really important to us. What REALLY makes sense for us. What REALLY is our right next step. So, I mean....sometimes I love a good bubble bath and call that self care. But truthfully, self care is way more nitty gritty than that, and doesn't really feel all that sexy, but ultimately it makes me way mo betta. I would love to hear how this one resonates with you.
