In this final episode of season 1 of The Master Teacher we talk with Nate Reaven, Dean at DSST: Conservatory Green HS, which is the #1 ranked high school on Denver's School Performance Framework. We ask Nate what they've done to ensure that students feel connected to school during this pandemic and about what lessons he'll be carrying from quarantine into this next school year. We'll be back for a brand new season this fall.

This week we talk to a teacher, Ryan Lawrence and a student, Spandan Koirala, who founded DSST: Byers 7 years ago when it had only 1 class of 6th graders. This year that class graduates as the Class of 2020 but they will have to celebrate in an unusual way - with a ceremony at a drive in theater. Ryan and Spandan talk about the arc of creating a middle and high school from nothing, what makes the Class of 2020 special, and how they're saying goodbye despite the pandemic.

Today we talk to Lauren Heil, Computer Science Teacher at DSST: Byers High School. Lauren came to teaching after a career as a graphic designer for major brands. She worked at the network level at DSST to help create and launch E-school during the COVID-19 epidemic. In this episode she guides us through how she defines "design", how she uses it in her classroom and her current apprenticeship with Google focused on improving educational design.
