Bill and the Belles / Snüzz / Abigail Dowd – Live at the Reeves
TMBS kicked off Season 3 in big fashion with the delightfully nostalgic sounds of Bill and the Belles. They also host the PBS television show Fam and Fun Time! We also welcomed singer-songwriter Abigail Dowd along with her husband Jason Duff to the show. North Carolina icon Snüzz joined in also to add his beautifully crafted pop gems to the evening. And to top it off, Martha premiered her new setting of “A Red, Red Rose” by Robert Burns.

Sonny Miles / John Howie Jr. – Live at the Reeves
The Martha Bassett Show welcomes John Howie Jr. and Sonny Miles to the Reeves Theater in Elkin, NC. John brought along some of his poignant and heartbreaking country songs and Sonny got the house dancing with his signature soulful sound. Martha and the band jump in as usual and Martha does a beautiful version of “Cry Me River” which features Rex McGee on fiddle. Rex also performs a piece from his legendary album “24 Creations for Solo Banjo.”

Amythyst Kiah / Riley Baugus / Thrift & McCumber – Live at the Reeves
Amythyst Kiah visited the show on September 1, 2018 along with Riley Baugus and Joe Thrift & Russell McCumber. We knew Amythyst had a powerhouse voice but we were still amazed to stand alongside her. Riley Baugus is an old-time fixture around these parts but is also known for his work on the movie “Cold Mountain” and for working with Willie Nelson. He also makes banjos, so with the inclusion of fiddle makers Thrift & McCumber on this one we had a lot to talk about.

Momma Molasses / Jon Shain – Live at the Reeves
This show from September 3, 2020 was the second in our Streaming Series, due to Covid, and we featured two wonderful songwriters. Ella Patrick, aka Momma Molasses visited from Bristol, TN and shared some of her classic country sounds. The music of North Carolina blues troubadour Jon Shain rounded out the night, and he also chatted with Martha about winning the 2019 International Blues Challenge in Memphis, TN.

Ben Sollee / Drake Duffer – Live at the Reeves
Cellist and songwriter Ben Sollee stopped by the show in June of 2018 and shared some common stories with Martha about their Kentucky ties. They performed the Stephen Foster song “Hard Times” and the band joined Ben for a few songs. The gifted crossover classical guitarist Drake Duffer is also on the show for the first time. He is a graduate of the University of North Carolina School of the Arts and the Yale School of Music, but grew up in Winston-Salem, North Carolina.

Jeff Little / David Childers – Live at the Reeves
The Martha Bassett Show welcomes pianist Jeff Little and singer-songwriter David Childers to the show. This was the first of our 2020 Streaming Series at the Reeves Theater, due to Covid, and we all had a great time getting back to some music making with old and new friends. Jeff brought along his son Luke on mandolin which was an extra treat and Jeff joined Martha on a stellar version of her song “Shake.”

Sam Reider & The Human Hands / Bruce Piephoff – Live at the Reeves
Accordionist and pianist Sam Reider brought along his band The Human Hands from Brooklyn, NY to our May 5, 2018 show for a high energy and spirited evening. The iconic North Carolina singer-songwriter and poet Bruce Piephoff joined the show also and Martha teamed up with Sam and his band on "Veinte Anos" and "The Nearness of You."

Jim White / Presley Barker – Live at the Reeves
We welcomed the mesmerizing Jim White to this show from April 14, 2018. Jim has long been one of our favorite songwriters and it was a thrill to get to make some music with him. Also one of North Carolina’s finest young guitar players, Presley Barker, visited for the first time and brought the audience to their feet. Presley was 13 and has since become one of our regular guests. Martha performed a very touching sing-a-long with the audience as well.

Mollie O'Brien & Rich Moore / Rex McGee – Live at the Reeves
Mollie O'Brien & Rich Moore visited the show on March 3, 2018. Mollie is one of Martha's favorite singers and she was just thrilled to welcome her and her husband Rich on guitar. They are not only a charming husband/wife duo, they also interpret the American folk songbook like no one else. Rex McGee also joined the show bringing along his trademark adventurous spirit on the banjo and fiddle. Playing everything from Bach, murder ballads, fiddle tunes and even a bit of Led Zeppelin and Beethoven from the Reeves Theater in Elkin, North Carolina.

Jonathan Byrd & The Pickup Cowboy / Dan River Girls – Live at the Reeves
The Martha Bassett Show welcomes songwriter/poet Jonathan Byrd and Johnny Waken (aka the Pickup Cowboy) to the show. The stellar sister trio the Dan River Girls also join. This is the first ever TMBS show and the energy is thrilling at the beautiful Reeves Theater in Elkin, NC. Jonathan shares his amazing, witty, and insightful songs along with poetry from his new book "You've Changed." And the Dan River Girls delight with some Patsy Cline and an 80's song by Yaz.
