Show #6 – The One Where We Talk About Authority Marketing
Join the Marketing and Media Monsters for super fun show as they talk about Becoming An Authority. Some of the bits that we touch on are achievements, people who are doing it right, not an overnight success, and choosing what to be an authority in. The interesting thing today was about staying activities and allowing yourself to "win"! Becoming An Authority is not about getting the right accreditations, but about your own achievements. It really is about putting 10,000 hours into something and becoming and expert at it. But just being an expert isn't enough, you have to want to be an authority to make a difference beyond just your "job". Resource: Outliers, Malcolm Gladwell Gary Vaynerchuk started in his dad's discount liquor store, started wine library tv, got on Ellen and Conan, wrote best selling books and generally is ABSOLUTELY an authority in the marketing industry. Like every authority, Gary was not an overnight success, nor was Mari Smith, our next victim (example). We questioned whether "normal" people should niche down quite so much and talked about the fact that Mari is so wonderful and genuine that she now has the opportunity to move beyond just Facebook if she wants. Show #5 – The One Where We Talk About Fearless Marketing Ideas
This week's show covers something that is a huge problem for many women (and some men), how to do FEARless Marketing, not caring about how you look, sound or feel, just going for it! Everyone worries about something. We were hesitant to write a book that would have a pink cover and a women-only focus, worrying that we would get pigeon-holed into "women marketers". We also worry about doing too much social media stuff in case we get stuck there instead of "real" marketing. >> Ebook we based the show on: FEARless Marketing Ideas For Women In our book, FEARless Marketing For Women, we talked about all the ways that we, as women, try to trip ourselves up and let the world stop our creativity and passion for marketing. The response has been tremendous, but one thing we hear over and over is that our FEARless Women want to know exactly how to do the marketing. How to take the different marketing channels by storm and just get out there an do it! This book is chock full of dos and don’ts for FEARless marketing that will take your sales and marketing efforts from bland and boring to snazzy and “knock their socks off!” >> Get it now! Bizwomenrock.com - Katie Krimitsos' Podcast just for women Video Marketing Right off the bat we jumped into the thing that scares the crap out of most business people, doing video marketing. We talked about looks, technical bits and programs that you can use to record your shows. Google Hangouts Screencast-o-matic Pictures In Marketing How to get professional photos done so that you can use them in your marketing without stressing out. What not to do and a super-duper trick for how to get exactly the type of shots you want! You can use them on your business card, speaker page, website, etc. Melanie Duncan Joel Comm Chris Brogan Writing Books One of the most powerful things we have done is to write books and while it is stressful it is SO worth it! Writing A Non Fiction Business Book: The Ultimate Authority Marketing Piece Blog Marketing If you are doing any kind of marketing you need to have a "HUB" where you drive all your traffic to and capture names. This should be your blog and all the other bits are just satellites that spin around it. Show #4 – The One Where We Talk About Building Big Social Media Networks
This week the Marketing & Media Monsters are talking about how to build big social media networks. Building and growing big social media networks is something that we know a thing or two about, considering that over our combined internet empires we have almost half a million connections. This show is based on our book, Building BIG Networks: How Making Connections Can Help Your Business. Something interesting. Today's "something interesting" was strangely motivational for Tara, focusing on grit and not giving up. Topics Included: Hollywood famous, internet famous or just someone who is a business person! Why having big networks is a great idea. You can get attendees for your events, share your offerings, get referrals, forge partnerships, build an audience and so much more. If you are lunching a product, hosting an event or writing a book, having a big network is a great help. A few words of warning so that you know what to do once you get "big". Don't waste your social capital or burn your networks. What to do if you are starting from zero targeting influencers, blogs, social sites and other people. Why it is so important to target a niche. https://twitter.com/ebooknerds - our new niche account for book writing https://twitter.com/taradactyl - Tara's old twitter account connector80120 - Rebekah's old twitter account targeting Colorado Everyone is starting out on sites like Instagram and even still on Pinterest. NEVER buy likes on any of the social websites and if you can, ignore your accounts when you first start growing them so you don't make yourself miserable. In person networking. Video networking and how doing Google Hangouts can help you increase your know, like and trust factor. Reaching critical mass, promoting other people and handling negative feedback wrap up the rest. Resources Mentioned In The Show >> Our new course! Finding The Perfect Customer Who Will Buy and Buy – Marketing Course Based on our book Our book on this topic is REALLY good with amazing specific information about how to grow big networks yourself. If you are trying to sell a product or service cold to the masses, you are probably hitting a brick wall. There are generally a score of other people trying to do the same thing that you are and there is little hope of cutting through the millions and millions of marketing messages being sent out daily. What if, instead of shouting to everyone, you had a group of people who liked listening to you,

What's In It For Them Where Can You Use Your USP About Us Marketing Materials Social Media Talks and Speeches Resources Mentioned In The Show Pretty Link Wordpress Plugin - This is one of our all time favorite plugins. The trick for us to call out the show URL during the show even though this post is not "live" yet is that we set that Pretty URL after the fact to be exactly what we talked about in the show! We use the lite version but have heard some people who rave about the advanced features in the paid version. Smarter Women Colorado - One of our examples of strong USP was Pat Fredriksen, of Smarter Women Colorado. Pat has a very clear vision of the types of clients she wants to work with (women - mostly in the 45-65 year old range) and is making all of her marketing decisions around how each marketing strategy will help her attract more of that type of client. Writing A Business Book - This is our book that we referenced in the show! If you are thinking about using your skills for business to become an author, this is the place to start. Nick Vujicic is the fellow that we so admire as an inspirational speaker. He was born without arms or legs and has triumphed by having and amazing career and beautiful family. Based on our book This show is based upon our book, Advanced Sales Strategy, How To Craft Your Unique Selling Proposition (USP) In the sea of advertising options, having a USP has never been more important than it is today. If you, or your company, don’t have something that stands out or makes you special, you will fall into obscurity among the marketing detritus that every customer faces. Whil
