S4E4: Following Your Strengths to Create Your Own Narrative
Oboist, music instructor, and entrepreneur Keith Bjorklund brings a fresh perspective on what it means to create your own narrative as a professional musician. A husband and father of two boys, Keith is making waves as a radically honest mentor to his students, sharing what its truly like to face the obstacles that all adults must face while creating an artistic and purposeful life. Keith shares his experiences of dealing with depression, anxiety, and hardships in graduate school while maintaining a career as an oboe teacher and reed maker. He puts a new spin on the idea of following your strengths (rather than your skills) and how to use those strengths to create your own narrative. If you have ever experienced hardships and confusion, particularly during your music education and thereafter, this episode is for you! Keith's vulnerability and willingness to open up about both the inner and exterior obstacles as an adult musician is what makes this conversation truly one of a kind.

S4E3: What Your Inner Truths Tell You About Creating Music
Today's guest is LA based musician Kasey Holt. A classical violinist, Kasey followed her curiosities and found herself in the realm of jazz music where she was challenged to improvise on her violin - something that felt foreign as a classical musician. But with that experience, she was able to start hearing her own voice, permitting her to think and feel outside of the box, using music as her expressive vehicle. By acknowledging and honoring her true feelings, she was able to write and record a personal album called "Letting." Kasey's story is raw, real, and incredibly deep. Tune in to this week's episode to learn why facing your inner truths - the good, the bad, and the ugly - is the key to creating music from the heart.

S3E8: Growing Your Teaching Studio Through Social Media with Neil and Rachel from Chili Dog Strings
Social media is a HOT topic for musicians! But sometimes the "how" behind it all can be a bit confusing, especially if you're using social media to represent yourself as a teacher. When we first met Rachel and Neil of Chili Dog Strings online, we were super impressed with how they were using Facebook, Instagram and YouTube to connect with their students (and other teachers!) online, which is why we're SO excited to introduce you to them on today's podcast episode. Rachel and Neil are so thoughtful about how and why they use social media to build their community for Chili Dog Strings, and we had an absolute blast chatting with them! We dive into... Their backgrounds + how they met The story behind the Chili Dog Strings brand (hint: Chili is their adorable dog!) The types of content they share on Facebook, Instagram and YouTube How they get their students and parents on board with sharing photos and videos from lessons on social media Online and offline tactics they've used to build their teaching studio and attract over 60 new students within their first year of moving to a new city How teachers can use email marketing to engage with current and prospective students  We cover a TON of helpful info in this fast-paced interview!  If you're a private teacher or are wanting to build your teaching studio, don't miss this insightful interview! S3E7: The Importance of Mindset, Resilience and Service as a Professional Musician with Pianist Jonny May
Full disclosure: we went into this interview with pianist Jonny May thinking we'd be chatting about tactics. (You know, the "how" behind Jonny's incredibly successful marketing strategy.) Between starting his career as the youngest Disneyland pianist ever at age 18, creating new gig opportunities that led to a restaurant owner purchasing a grand piano just for him to come play, and launching his online teaching site, www.pianowithjonny.com, there is clearly much to learn from this classically-trained, ragtime-loving pianist! But instead of talking tactics, we dug into all things mindset, resilience and service behind what it takes to build a successful career as a musician.  And here's why: without this foundational mindset and service-based approach to business, nothing else matters. Jonny was 110% speaking our language when it comes to having the courage to step out there and create your own opportunities as a musician, and we seriously loved every minute of this inspirational and example-filled conversation! One of our favorite quotes from Jonny is that as musicians, we're essentially "helping people help people."  That's the power of music! And with all the craziness that goes on in this 21st century world of ours, we are truly blessed to be able to give back through what we offer the world as teachers and performers.
