Ginny Lemon and Bimini Bon Boulash, had a heart to heart in one episode and opened up about struggles they had had as non-binary people and being on the drag circuit. Differences Between Dating Men & Women
In this episode of The Lipsticks Podcast, we decided to dial back the serious chat and talk all about the differences between dating men and women! We’ve gone for some tongue-in-cheek stereotypical pros and cons of dating both. Our news topic up for discussion this week is inspired by a tweet which recently went viral and resurfaced an old news story from way back in 2017…BARBIE HAS A GIRLFRIEND?! Whether everyone’s favourite blonde icon is gay or an ally, either way, we are here for it 👏Another gay made-up word enters our Gay Glossary and we also give a big shout out to an unsigned, super cool indie rock band called Breakfast With Bears. The Issue With Compulsory Heterosexuality
In this week’s episode of The Lipsticks Podcast, the girls are weighing in on some serious BIG GAY ISSUES. We talk all about compulsory heterosexuality, why it’s a problem and although it’s getting better, why we still have a way to go.Compulsory heterosexuality - or comphet for short - is the idea that heterosexuality is considered to be ‘normal’ to the point where in society we are assumed to be straight unless we state otherwise. This also includes an imbalance in the social promotion of heterosexuality vs homosexuality. We talk about the recent news story that South Oxfordshire council voted for a policy which will see gender-neutral toilets being introduced as part of a motion recognising difficulties faced by trans people!A new made-up gay word finds it’s way into our Gay Glossary. U-haul love this one...We also give a big shout out to another podcast which is hosted by two fellow queer women. Her Dark Materials is a spoiler-free podcast which reads through Philip Pullman's His Dark Materials novels. Expect feminist analysis, northern charm and a lot of laughs.Spoiler alert! LGBT Youth: Being Gay at School
This week the girls are back with a brand new episode of The Lipsticks Podcast and are taking things right back to their school days! In this episode, we talk about how acceptable it was to be gay and out at school and how, if at all, times have changed since then. This topic was inspired by the recent announcement that actress Busy Phillips’ 12-year-old Birdie, is out and proud and prefers they/them pronouns. Busy announced this on her podcast, two years after the coming-out, following Birdie’s blessing. Honestly, we think this is awesome and we are here for it! 👏Our Gay Glossary gets a brand new addition *drum roll* … we won’t tell you that in the show notes! You’re just going to have to listen to find out.We also shout out about a super cool, independent, ecommerce business which is all about satirical, basic bitch merchandise! Debating and Queerbaiting
In this episode of The Lipsticks Podcast, the girls welcome in the new year by getting down to the nitty gritty of...queerbaiting.Queerbaiting is essentially a marketing technique which creators use to hint at but then do not represent a queer romance, in order to appeal to an LGBTQ+ audience. Here we give our two cents on the subject. We then discuss the Netflix hit show Bridgerton which has recently come under fire for it’s queer-baiting and explain why this is a bad move. Spoiler alert! The only gay action you’ll see in this series, is in the trailer. If you haven’t gotten flustered with excitement already, then hold onto your hats, because our Gay Glossary gets to house a new word this week AND one of your hosts has actually been described as this word…We also shout about a wonderful, talented gay poet in this weeks spotlight section, to stick around to the end to find out who it is and where you can check out their lovely words!Spoiler alert! Would You Ask a Straight Person That?
In this episode of The Lipsticks Podcast, the girls have got something to get off their chests. We discuss our experiences of strangers asking inappropriate personal questions and about our relationships, sex lives (eek!) and general gayness. The hot topic up for debate this week is LGBTQ+ inclusive sex education being taught in schools. Following the news in recent months, the department for education said that they wanted to support all young people to be happy, healthy and sex when it comes to sex! Our Gay Glossary gets a new edition, so stick around to find out which ridiculous gay made-up word makes the cut this week. We also shine our big ole gay spotlight on a queer artist this week, who creates unique art focused on queer relationships and POC. We LOVE to see it. Did we say GAY enough? Did we (mainly Jess) swoon over Megan Mitchell enough?  Spoiler alert! This podcast may contact traces of giggling, northern accents, sarcasm and gay references.
