Episode 69. Ava Scarlet is back! Let’s catch up and see what’s happened in the last two years!
Hello, I'm Ava! A little about me… I’m a great believer that we are all here to serve a purpose with the limited time we have on this earth. Over the years I have truly transformed my life. From leaving home when I was 17 years old, living within my comfort zone and avoiding uncomfortable conversations to now, living a positive, abundant, FULL life. Over the past few years I’ve set myself goals that included personal and business achievements and I achieved them all, plus more! I have grown my small beauty business from my spare room into a recognized and respected brand within the beauty industry. I have employed staff, educated and mentored hundreds of students who travel from all over the UK (even from overseas!), judged lash and brow competitions, been a keynote speaker for events, and I have hosted events within the industry. Soon to start my degree in Psychology Counselling I am passionate about making a positive impact on the world. Alongside my multifaceted career I am also a mother and the things that make me the happiest are being in nature with my loved ones, exploring the beauty around me and sitting on my sofa dipping a Cadburys chocolate bar into a cuppa tea!

Episode 53. Joanne Lee. How your voice can change your business
Joanna has been a lash artist for nearly 10 years. Having been just shy of a decade her lash business has grown up with the industry as it has metamorphised through so many changes. Joanna is also a lash educator and has been teaching for about 3 years and is an accredited trainer for Darling Beauty. Joanna started lashing as a side-line when her children were young and whilst she was still working in television. Television is Joanna’s other passion and she went into the world of light entertainment having left university with an English degree. Whilst at uni she was a contestant on Blind Date and it was that whole experience which piqued her interest in television production and became her focus. Working her way up through the roles behind the camera including contracts as an associate producer she is used to writing, producing, directing and shooting broadcast pieces but what she really wanted to do was step infront of the camera. Finally, she landed a job as a reporter on BBC’s The Really Useful Show and also started to present for many corporate videos and live shows such as The Boat Show and The Good Food Show. She also co-presented a series on cable TV called ‘Show People’. Eventually, Joanna moved into regional weather presenting and presented for ITV and Channel 5 before being head hunted by Sky News and Joanna finished her TV presenting as a weather presenter there. Alongside this Joanna had a daily contract as a voice over artist for Bloomberg television. Voice overs are one of Joanna’s favourite things to do. Before lockdown, Joanna organised a lash event with Dionne of Love and Lashes and it was here that Joanna first spoke about her tips and tricks which she had learned over the years of broadcasting. During lockdown Joanna has taken this onwards and has begun to devise teaching in this area. She has already done some one to one classes for vocal and presenting mentoring via zoom and she is looking forward to doing workshops as well as one to one teaching and hopes also to create an online course. She is very keen to give people the confidence to speak to camera and to create voiced over pieces so that their social media accounts can be brought to life but also to feel more confident with communication day to day, be it face to face with customers or speaking to students or maybe presenting live to a larger audience. Recently, Joanna has also produced a series of podcasts called ‘Behind The Lashes’ which she is extremely proud of. It’s her little piece of social history, following 22 lash artists from around the world as they navigate their way through this bizarre period of coronavirus. Joanna gets such a buzz out of hearing people’s stories. The trials and tribulations. The highs and lows as they battle with fear, lack of income, lack of a sense of future and anxiety that this brings but also the incredible resourcefulness of these women and the numerous ways in which they inspire her and the listeners.
