Opposite Gender Friendship & Mentoring with Dr. Rob Lindemann
So, so excited about today's conversation with my good friend, Dr. Rob Lindemann. Rob is the Academic Dean at Vanguard College. Rob has spoken truth into my life and been an extraordinary friend to me! If you've not yet met him, I'm delighted to introduce you to him today in our conversation. Rob and I talk candidly about why mentorship and friendship with the opposite sex are beneficial, how it can affect people's future, help them understand God's call for them, and how it can express God's love. Rob shares how important it is to clarify the benefits and the risks to another person if we're unwilling to engage. We also talk about boundaries and how to steward our lives well. Love builds people up. If you have any further questions for Rob and I and want to see us do another episode around your questions on this topic, please email me here. Believing in you, Carmen

46: Christian Spirituality as Intentional Practice
Please note: There have been glitches with my website since switching over to the new theme, so my apologies if you've gotten this post more than once! Welcome to 2021! I'm so thrilled you're here, and we made it to 2021. I was inspired to record this episode through a book I was reading by local Saskatchewan author, Leah Perrault. You can find Leah here. In her book, My Heart of Flesh: Choosing Life in the Midst of the Mess, she describes Christian Spirituality this way: Healthy Christian spirituality is the intentional practices that allow us to live peacefully in reality, that draw us closer to God, one another and creation, that are a participation in God's saving plan for the world. (34) In today's podcast episode, I'm asking you the question: What are the intentional practices that will allow you to live peacefully in reality in 2021? I also share with you some of mine. And, next month on the Podcast is my good friend Dr. Rob Lindemann. We chat about friendships with the opposite gender. It was so much fun to do! 44: Are you stretched or strained?
There's a difference between challenging yourself to stretch and grow and straining yourself as you try to achieve things. Four questions to consider and use to self-evaluate: What is my current health capacity? How am I? What season of life am I currently in? Why am I trying to do this? What support systems do I need to have in place right now? When you're straining yourself, and you do so over an extended period, the result may include mental fatigue, physical or emotional injury, anxiety, insomnia, to name a few. 42: Bravery in Identity
You will only be authentically brave when you are living on the right foundation. In today's podcast episode, Ashley and Carmen are talking about having an identity build on truth so that you can bravely show up in the world. Jesus told us to build our foundation, our life, upon his teachings and truth. When we build our foundation on anything else, it's a faulty foundation. Our worth and value were settled on the cross. And when we are not living from that core truth we can find ourselves seeking our worth and identity in what we accomplish, whether or not people like and love us, or whether or not we are in control. To discern what foundation you may be living upon, Rob Riemer offers three questions for us to consider: When do I get defensive? When do I get petty? When do I become compulsive? Then ask yourself the following: What's beneath that? How do I behave when I am operating defensively, petty, or compulsively? The right foundation is essential for you to show up bravely! Kaitlyn Cey, Director of Inspire Our Nation
On today's special episode of The LEAD Women Podcast, we are thrilled to be having a conversation with the Director of Inspire Our Nation, Kaitlyn Cey. (Carmen apologizes in advance for her mic quality, she is still learning to get the tech to work properly!) We're chatting about leadership and filling a need for our youth in Saskatchewan. The current project that Kaitlyn and her team are working on is Inspire a Girl. Here are some statistics supporting why it matters that we help our Candian girls. Despite increasing national awareness and dialogue surrounding mental health, the statistics relating to the mental health of girls in Canada are alarming. In Grade 6, 36% of girls say they are self-confident, but by Grade 10 this has plummeted to only 14%.10 Between age nine and 13, girls become less confident and are more likely to say they are feeling depressed.11 12% of girls in Canada aged 12-19 say they have experienced a major depressive episode at some point in their life.12 A study of Ontario students found that girls (8.4%) are prescribed medication for depression, anxiety, or both much more often than boys (2.8%).13 More girls aged 10-17 are hospitalized for mental disorders than boys the same age.14 Canadian girls are also 15 times more likely to be hospitalized for an eating disorder than males. More than half of female patients hospitalized for eating disorders in Canada are girls aged 10-19.15 Girls in Ontario are twice as likely as boys to report feeling an unmet need for mental health support.17 In Canada, suicide remains the third-leading cause of death for girls aged 10-14, and the second-leading cause of death for girls aged 15-19.18 Here is where you can find out more information about Inspire Our Nation, including how to purchase a box that goes to support online youth programming this summer. 40: The Client Funnel
From start to finish, what's a Client Funnel? In today's episode, Ashley and Carmen and having a conversation about the Client Funnel. Here are the essential steps: 1. Have an Exclamation Call that brings people to the solution you are solving for a problem they have. 2. Your answer, the process of transformation, your client will go through as they receive support from you. 3. The change has happened, and clients are now turned into ambassadors of your service. Questions you need to consider for yourself: How will I feed people into my funnel? What's my Exclamation cry? What is my funnel and the process of my funnel? How can I simplify this process for where I'm currently at in my business and my capacity as a leader? How do I create ambassadors? What are my ambassador rewards? 38: Mentoring in the Mess
Today on the LEAD Women Podcast, Ashley and Carmen are talking about mentoring in a mess. Our talking points include: Hard situations like this are out of the norm. Global Pandemics are not, nor would we ever want them to be frequent occurrences. Leaders want to learn, no, matter what it is that is happening. Leaders want to be at the epicentre of where the decisions are being made They want you to allow them to see you wrestle with the hard things (layoff, budget cuts, project halts, etc.). Leaders want to help solve problems. Leaders don’t want to read about what’s happening right now as a case study in future books; they want to be learning on the fly, with you! Choosing to do this will grow the confidence, competence, and capacity of your emerging leaders. Please make space for them. Who could you be mentoring in this pandemic season? 36: They Sucky Thing About Sucky Things
Do things suck right now? Yeah, we get it. Sucky things that happen really suck. What should we do when sucky things happen? Embrace the suck. It's okay to acknowledge that it's a hard season right now. And during this hard season, we need to be flexible. Flexible Being flexible means, we are gracious with ourselves and others. Being flexible means, we do what we can with what we have. Being flexible means, we move the plan around little and maybe even make changes. Being flexible means that we don’t intentionally contribute to the sucky-ness. Being flexible means that we let God be God, and we surrender. So, what do we do when life sucks? We embrace the suck. And it just so happens that we are all in this together. So, let’s embrace the suck together.

34: Living in the Waiting
Friend, have you hit a wall? Are you waiting for God to make clear your next steps? On today's LEAD Women Podcast, Ashley and Carmen are talking about living in the waiting. Talking Points: Sometimes there are seasons of your life where it feels like nothing is going on… or maybe people think there is nothing going on… but you are going through an intense transformation. The Lord has led you there. But it’s not this inactive… Netflix and ice cream mentality… It is this active patience that refines us and makes us into who we are. Not everything about our lives is public. I think we are fooled by social media to think that our lives are for public observation. Secrecy kills the soul and is a breeding ground for sin. However, there are seasons with intentional relationships that walk with us in our waiting. Spiritual direction Counselling Coaches We'd love to hear from you. 30: Fear of Putting Yourself Out There
Ashley and Carmen are talking about the Fear of Putting Yourself Out There. Can anyone relate? One of the reasons Carmen hesitates is because she places a high value on excellence and is learning things on the go, it's a stressor for her. Remember: Everyone started somewhere. And if you're going to be an influencer, you have to be okay with putting yourself out there. And the first time is always the hardest! Sometimes we need to get out of our own way. How are you getting out of your own way? Friends, your worth is secure. Don't let it be determined by people's likes or dislikes. Your worth was settled on the cross. Everyone has some form of insecurity. You're not alone in your insecurities. If people don't like something you put out there, they can do one of two things. One, they can talk with you about it. Two, they can let it go. One step at a time, friend. You're going to change as you continue to create and experience life. Who you are and what you publish today may change over time. Beth Moore is a classic example of this. Her decision can be found here. Our advice: Record and hit publish if you feel a sense that this is what you're supposed to do. Create the course that's been burning in your soul. Push through fear, our world needs you. Start before you're ready, you'll learn as you go. What would you do if you weren't afraid? How would you show up in this world? Tag #leadwomenco and tell us how you're pushing through your fears!
