Destry Sterkel - Sacred Heart Eagles - Head Boys Basketball Coach
In this episode of the Jimmy Ball-Game Podcast: Things Coaches Learn, I speak with head boys' basketball coach for the Sacred Heart Eagles, Destry Sterkel. Coach Sterkel has had tremendous success as the head coach for the Eagles since he first took over 6 years ago. In his 6 seasons with the Eagles, his teams have amassed 87 wins, 3 conference championships, and a schools best wins loss record of 23 - 5. To put this in perspective further, the previous 5 seasons combined before Coach Sterkel took over, the Eagles won a total of 14 games.   Adding to his impressive resume, he has coached 14 student-athletes to all conference honors, and 5 of his student athletes have been named to the top 50 in the state of Minnesota for class A. It's safe to say that Coach Sterkel has infused energy and life into Sacred Hearts' program and has made a lot of noise in Minnesota class A basketball. It's needless to say that this is one of the many reasons I want to pick his brain, and ask him what he's learned! How did he turn that program around? How did he infuse life into the program? What is he doing that makes his program unique and a program that kids want to buy in to? We are going to talk about all of these things and more! Coach Sterkel is a great friend of mine and former teammate from our playing days at Dickinson State University. He is one of the hardest working people I have ever been around and I know that you will learn from what he has to say. This is an episode you don't want to miss!
