Jene reads the comments of someone who rated our podcast on social media. The Republican Party Is Undermining the very Idea of Free Elections: EP-313
Recently, we got a five star review for our show on social media. OK, which one of us wrote it?Speaking of written reviews, we got an unusual email from a listener. (Simulation Theory conversation). We’re closer to going back to shows with a small studio audience. Should we offer a free Vax to attendees? Ohio’s governor is conducting million dollar lotteries and free college tuition as an incentive to get jabbed. Why Biden should push the American Families Plan through without Republicans: EP-312
We had Jerry do a phone speed check since he’s doing the show tonight from another of his seven international homes. Can you picture him actually conducting science?Off mic last week, I asked Casey Campbell if he would organize the music at my future funeral. He said yes, and that he’s asked to do that all the time. Maybe there’s money to be made here. What if the Springer Trio re-organizes and sings at your funeral?Jerry’s Thought for the Week: Why Biden should push the American Families Plan through without Republicans.Musical guest: Tom Vandenavondhttps://tomvandenavond.com/ See acast.com/privacy for privacy and opt-out information.

Republicans Keep Coming Down on the Wrong Side of Racial Sensitivity: EP 311
Tonight, we read listener's notes from the suggestion box.Are we in a historical moment where schools, just like in the 1970s (but for a different reason) should desegregate? Can America ever understand charges of institutional racism or the worry that black lives might not matter if we continue to be raised in separate Americas? (The Economic Policy Institute wrote in 2020: “Well over six decades after the Supreme Court declared “separate but equal schools” to be unconstitutional, schools remain heavily segregated by race and ethnicity.)Jerry’s Thought for the week: Republicans keep coming down on the wrong side of racial sensitivity.Musical guest: Casey Campbell of Buffalo Wabs & the Price Hill Hustlehttps://www.pricehillhustle.com/ See acast.com/privacy for privacy and opt-out information.

Should Washington D.C. Get Statehood? EP-309
We’ve got a piece of recording of Jerry when he was mayor welcoming people to Cincinnati’s first ever outside rock concert. It’s the voice of the boy mayor.Have you guys watched the Ken Burns PBS 3-episode documentary on Hemingway? In it is the house we visited on our Cuba trip. Hemingway as seen in today’s context is pretty much a jerk, yet he influenced writers more than any American novelist and shed a huge light on the human condition. Time Is Not on the Side of Republican Politicians Using the Race Card: EP-308
As we're recording this just a couple of hours after the verdict that convicted police officer Derek Chauvin of the murder of George Floyd, we're focusing some time on this story and the implications for black lives and policing moving forward. We have to wonder what would have happened if the nearby 17 year old girl had not recorded the whole situation on her phone. What about the much tougher situations where we don't have clear video evidence. And of course Cincinnati's had their version back in 2001 when Timothy Thomas was shot by a Cincinnati police officer. Timothy was unarmed with hands up. The officer was acquitted.Jerry’s Thought: Time Is Not On the Side Of Republican Politicians Using the Race CardMusical guest: Eric Bolanderhttp://ericbolander.com/ See acast.com/privacy for privacy and opt-out information.

The Question Is How Good Are Our Lives: EP 307
Jerry, how do you like your electric bike now that you have had it for a year or so? Are you riding much? E-bikes are exploding in sales in the US, often seen as a viable substitute for a car especially in urban areas. Cities are responding to bike popularity with tons of bike lanes and trails. There’s even a rails-to-trails path being planned spanning the entire United Sates. With shots now well along, should we begin to lay out plans for Jerry to scale Springer Mountain, in Georgia, (the trail head for the Appalachian Trail) led by Dixie, the Triple Crown hiker we had on our show? Our plan is for Jerry to plant the flag there that displays the Springer family crest.Jerry’s Thought for the Week: The Question Is Never How Big Is Our Government? Are you guys feeling more confident about getting out since you’ve gotten shots? Could we be going back to "live not zoom" podcasting? Stay tuned.By the way, Jerry, do you ride your new wave runner? Look at how the country has changed in just two months since Biden's presidency.Question: Are you a vanity mask wearer? During the past year, have you worried about which Covid 19 mask you wear looks best on you? Or have you selected your mask based solely on virus protection? Is it true you are the third base coach? The changing of the Washington Football Team’s racist nickname and a high school in Cincinnati (they just announced their new mascot as the Raptors) is one more example of how in the end, no matter that it often takes time, Liberals Always Win.Jerry’s Thought of the Week: The filibuster is why Washington never gets anything done. Our musical guest: James Westonhttps://www.youtube.com/watch?v=eqTjVsPDLNM See acast.com/privacy for privacy and opt-out information.

Jerry Gets His COVID - Shot: EP 301
Everyone, take a close look at Jerry on our Zoom feed. He looks stronger, healthier, doesn’t he? It’s because he’s gotten his first Covid shot. From what I heard, they had to blindfold and secure him because he’s afraid of shots. Jerry, what did the medical people think when they realized they were injecting THE Jerry Springer? Since our musical guests are significant in the Kentucky bluegrass sphere, how about if we talk with them about bluegrass music’s roots in Celtic culture and African blues music? Democrats do the right thing. It doesn't even take courage, just decency: Ep - 299
It occurred to Jene we’ve underutilized a key history resource in our midst. Jerry, what was it like during the pandemic of 1918? Was it as bad as this one? Did you wear a mask daily? On a serious note, might America have been changed positively forever by our recent pandemic? For example, will many companies make home working permanent saving money on offices and headquarters? Will, then, less rush hour driving cut pollution, car wrecks and money for gas? Will news show interviews be permanently better due to the ease of getting outstanding sources direct from their locations via Zoom? Have families relocated their connections through home lockdowns? Is there a silver lining in all this?Maybe we're approaching the time for Universal Income?Jerry’s weekly thought: Democrats do the right thing. Trump Is A Twice Impeached Loser: EP-298
We’ve been at this pandemic thing and the accompanying quarantine for over a year now, but with vaccinations getting lined up, we’re seeing a light at the end of the tunnel. What do each of us have planned that will make up for lost time doing things we love to our core: Travel? If so, where? Restaurant dining? Where? Shopping at Macy’s? Obviously, yes. Was the Super Bowl commercial by Springsteen The Re-United States of America resonate or silly? Republicans Need To Hold Trump Accountable For The Insurrection: EP-297
Jerry, you are connected to the Democratic Party at the highest levels. Can you get us all tours of the White House, or at the very least some swag bags from there? Not a podium or anything.Jene and Jerry have an on the air fight.Jene got stopped for driving over the speed limit last week, and he told the officer that he was a friend of Judge Jerry and asked if that helped his situation. The officer said no, but that he did love the episode where they had that big food fight at the Thanksgiving dinner table. Then he handed Jene his ticket and said, “Take care of yourself, and each other.” Jerry’s Weekly Thought.
