IAE_021 Avoiding App Rejection, updates and emails.
IAE_021 Avoiding App Rejection In this episode of the Iphone App Experiment podcast, we discuss some tips on avoiding app rejection in the App Store for your app and what you can do if you find yourself in that situation. Plus we read a few listener emails, look at a 5 star review, talk about an EPIC upcoming guest and then Dennis gives a HUGE thank you to all of the listeners because without YOU, there is no show. The most common issue developers have when getting rejected by an App Screener are: 1. Having lousy code 2. Duplicate Apple’s software 3. Get in the way 4. Execute interpreted code 5. Use too much bandwidth 9 Commonly overlooked reasons your app may not pass the App Store review proces 1. Use of the word “beta” or otherwise indicating that your app is unfinished 2. Long load time 3. Linking to outside payment schemes 4. Do not mention other platforms in your app 5. Localization glitches 6. Improper use of storage and file systems 7. Crashes from users denying permissions 8. Improper use of icons and buttons 9. Misuse of trademarks and logos So, what do you do when or if you get rejected from Apple? If your app does get rejected, don’t panic! Take a deep breath, relax and address the issue and resubmit it. In an emergency, Apple provides an expedited review process (FOUND HERE) which can be used for critical bug fixes or to address security issues. But be careful. Developers who overuse the expedited review will be barred from using it in the future. The best approach is to avoid rejection in the first place. So, study the submission guidelines (FOUND HERE) and focus on building a high-quality app. Your users will thank you for it. I hope you enjoy this episode and stay tuned for the next interview because I think you will get a TON of good information from it. The guest will be Carter Thomas and he is the King of App Reskinning! See ya then!

He was kind enough to generate 5,000 different ideas for you all so make sure you go by and check them out when you have a minute. Just as a little disclaimer, the generated ideas are not intended to be solid app ideas on their own and some of them won’t make a ton of sense in terms of grammar but the idea is to look at the random ideas and see if any of them spark and idea with the words used in them and the combination of the games mentioned in them. There are 5,000 of them so maybe, just maybe, your next app idea is waiting for a little inspiration in that list. It’s an interesting way to look at brainstorming and hopefully it can produce something great for you. Do you put it in there with it optimized with key words and sit back and let it naturally do what it's going to do? Or do you do anything specific that you try to do to position your app a little bit better than everyone else? David: Well, I just want to explain the concept of the day one downloads. I'll just reset threads. So, on day one you don't have that 3 to 5 day history for Apple to position you in the charts. So, according to the team at App Trace, they really know how, more than anyone probably, how the algorithms work and that's a useful site to check out. AppTrace.com. On day one, Apple give you the benefit of the doubt, so let's say on day one, if you have 200 downloads, they'll say "Okay, let's say you have also had 200 downloads for the past 3 to 5 days" so that’s how on the first day you can get a boost in the rankings. Different to what you would on other days. So on day one if you get 200 downloads, that will have much
