Authenticity and influence are related. At the higher levels of influence, our influence goes up the more authentic we are with people. We are taught to appear like we’ve got it all together, otherwise people won’t follow us, but the opposite is true. The more perfect we appear, the less people can relate to us, and the more likely they will suspicious that they aren’t being shown the whole story. Being authentic on the other hand invites people in and lets them be real too. And then a magical influence starts to happen.

We often get so caught up in our own world view, that it’s nearly impossible to see a different perspective. Our perceptions are colored by our beliefs. Our beliefs are colored by our perceptions. And sometimes it’s like we are living in an alternate reality. We don’t see that we are living in a different reality because we are in the middle of it. It’s like we can’t see our own eyebrows unless we have a mirror. This, of course, affects relationships and our ability to make a meaningful impact.
