[From the Archives] TGC 111 — The Ascension
In this episode, we discuss The Feast of the Ascension of Our Lord. Why do we celebrate it? How is this feast pivotal to our lives as Christians waiting for and eagerly anticipating Christ's return in glory? Why did he go away? And in departing, does that mean he is truly absent? And if not, how is he with us now. You will see just how profound and glorious this feast is as Rick Stuckwisch (pastor of Emmaus Lutheran Church, South Bend, IN, and Departmental Editor of Gottesdienst: The Journal of Lutheran Liturgy) answers these questions and more.  Become a Patron! TGC 193 — Villains Revised
Have you noticed that all the old villains aren’t really villains anymore? Maleficent, Hannibal Lecter, Darth Vader, Cruella De Vil: All these villains aren’t so much villains, but rather people who have a psychological reason for what they do. If we could only understand them how they became that way, then they’re not so bad.  In this episode, we look at villain revisionism. Where bad isn’t really bad, thereby destroying any conception of what is good.  Here is the article referenced in the episode: https://treeofwoe.substack.com/p/victim-manager-rebel-destroyer?s=r   ----more---- Host: Fr. TGC 187 — On Imprecation
They’re not in our hymnals. But they’re in the Bible. And so they should be in our hymnals. Thus, a great treasure has been stolen from Christians to learn how to pray in the way of the Imprecatory Psalms. We’re trying to fix that. In this episode, Ramirez leads us through what imprecation is. Then he demonstrates from the psalms and examples in the Bible, where the saints of old imprecate God’s enemies, and so their enemies also, so that we can follow in their train. Host: Fr. TGC 183 — The God’s of Our Age (War)
In the first episode of The Gods of Our Age, Mark Preus walked us through an introduction. That the people of Rome, Galatia, Corinth, and Ephesus could hardly not know that they were idolaters when Paul preached to them. They had idols of stone and wood and precious metals. They had temples with statues devoted to their gods. We know from Luther’s Catechisms that an idol is anything that you fear, love, and trust in above all things. We have idols too. They are not statues of stone or wood or precious metals. But they look exactly like the idols of the ancient world.  In this episode, He narrows our focus on the God of War, Ares/Mars.  Host: Fr. TGC 181 — Have We Won the Battle for the Bible?
We’ve been told that we have won the Battle for the Bible. And while this may true with respect to many of the issues that arose in our church body in the 1970s, it appears that it isn’t completely a closed case. We still are fighting for the meaning of words. Thus, the Battle for the Bible rages on under a new flag with new colors. In this episode, Adam Koontz helps us look at what fighting remains in the Battle for the Bible. ----more---- Host: Fr. Jason Braaten Regular Guest: Fr. Adam Koontz ----more---- Become a Patron!
