Our current podcast is Be Seeing You: Watching The Prisoner, and at the end of this month The Good Neighboring Podcast will go away for good. If you haven't followed us to Be Seeing You but you're still interested in getting a fix of John and Theresa don't worry: a new podcast is in the works. We'll announce it over at Be Seeing You: Watching The Prisoner when that podcast wraps up in May.

It's been a good run and we've enjoyed it enormously. At the end of March 2018 we will cease hosting The Good Neighboring Podcast, so listen or download now while you still have the chance. In this podcast Theresa and John reflect on the best and worst of the four seasons of The Good Life/Good Neighbors. What is Margot's most memorable outfit? What is Jerry's best line? What is the most implausible self-sufficiency gimmick cooked up by the writers? What were our favorite supporting characters? We hope you enjoy this wrap-up of notable Good Life moments.

It is with a bit of melancholy we bid adieu to this final episode of The Good Life/Good Neighbors. The Goods are beset by problems big and small: a toxic spill of heating oil in the back garden, a goat who stops making milk and more. Meanwhile the Leadbetter's "star is in the ascendant" as Jerry is confirmed as a new managing director. But we are left on a note of optimism and British can-do spirit, even as the shock ending sees the Good's house ravaged by an unseen crew of politically ambiguous punks who ventured over from BBC central casting. This is season four, episode seven.

Margot must decide if she will bow to pressure or stick to her guns when the Surbiton Music Society votes to do Sweet Charity, a production she finds suggestive and vulgar. Tom and Barbara also must remind themselves of their principles when they notice the unguarded surplus heating oil left by the departed Mrs. Weaver, which could be swapped for the pig bedding they badly need. Jerry probably is the overall winner in this episode, as he at least gets some black stockings out of the deal. This podcast covers the sixth episode of the fourth season of The Good Life/Good Neighbors.

Tom and Barbara have formed themselves into a weaving Tong, and Jerry's managing directorship balloon has gone up. You can do such a helluva lot with nettles and fleeces, you great daft penguin. This is the fifth episode of the fourth and last season of The Good Life/Good Neighbors.

The Good's crop of posh soft fruit is sold and they find themselves with an unheard-of ten pound surplus. The money threatens to burn a hole in Tom's pocket, but Margot too is having problems with spending, much to Jerry's frustration. Both couples deal with these conflicts in their own unique way, incorporating a healthy dose of 70s sexism. This is episode four of season four of The Good Life/Good Neighbors.

Barbara is a hit when she gives a talk on self-sufficiency at Margot's request. Her public speaking skills attract the attention of Lady Truscotte, which in turn arouses the jealousy of Margot who finds her social aspirations thwarted. This episode is all about class identity (and when it stands in front of a window you can see right through its dress.) It's season four, episode three of The Good Life/Good Neighbors.

When the opportunity to buy a farm in the country arises, Tom and Barbara Good decide to remain in their "little house." Is that really realistic? In this minicast Theresa interviews John about his foray into buying property and designing a self-sufficient dwelling.

While visiting the Surbiton Pony Club to obtain manure for their gardens, Tom and Barbara discover Margot has been lying to everyone including Jerry about her weekly horse riding. Later they spot her furtively entering a private flat in the high street and conclude she's having an affair. They are none the wiser at the close of the episode, but it is revealed to the viewer what happens behind The Green Door. This is episode two of the fourth and final season of The Good Life/Good Neighbors.

Struggling with one disaster after another, the Goods need a break. Between the obligations of livestock and having less than five pounds to their name, options for a vacation are limited. Good thing their friends next door can step into the breach with a free London flat to borrow for the weekend and goat milking services (and horn polishing thrown in at no extra charge). But can the Goods truly relax from the concerns of their self-sufficient lifestyle and get Away From it All? This podcast covers the first episode of season four of The Good Life/Good Neighbors.

About a year after the end of The Good Life, this special episode was produced as a royal command performance for Queen Elizabeth. Bookended by coverage of the Queen arriving and leaving, this idiosyncratic episode offers some behind-the-scenes glimpses along with the royal pomp. It also asks the very valid question "how do the self-sufficient prepare for retirement?"

After Barbara is repeatedly treated like "one of the blokes" she feels her identity as a woman is in jeopardy. After failing to impress Tom with her last fancy dress, she tears it on a nail. Tom blusters along as clueless as ever until Jerry sets him straight.

In this minicast we discuss our personal libraries of self-sufficiency books, and look at the evolution of advice for those wanting to "get back to the land." From Walden Pond to hippie communes to the urban hipster chicken ranchers of today, there never fails to be an audience of would-be escapees from "the system."

When the Goods come down with fleas, everyone naturally assumes their animals are to blame. A visit from a council representative reveals otherwise and throws a wrench into Margot's political aspirations.

Margot confounds the Good's agricultural ambitions when she erects a windbreak in her back garden, throwing a dirty great shadow all over their soft fruit crop. It takes spite, some blue-collar bashing, several bottles of pea pod burgundy and just a whiff of wife-swapping to arrive at a solution. It's season 3, episode 5 of The Good Life/Good Neighbors. An encounter with fellow gardener Mr. Wakely convinces the Goods to experiment with talking to plants, but runs afoul of Margot's right wing coup of the Surbiton Music Society. This is episode 4 of the third season of The Good Life/Good Neighbors and features Battenburg cake, Mr. Chipchase's trusty pipe, an oversexed laboratory assistant, and plenty of Peter Dawson.
