Keeper Of The Greens is proudly brought to you by Colin Campbell Chemicals. Click on their name and it will take you straight to their website for more information. It's time to visit the Apple Isle for only the second time since starting Keeper Of The Greens and I'm very excited to be visiting another "Royal" golf club. Shaun soon decided that if he was going to do greenkeeping, then he was all in! Keeper Of The Greens is proudly brought to you by Colin Campbell Chemicals. Click their name and it will take you straight to their website. I hope you're ready for this dry conversation. Kalgoorlie is an extreme environment that requires an extremely good understanding of how to get the best out of turf in such a location! Originally from the driest state is Australia, Pat served his early career at some of the best golf courses we have to offer in Adelaide, before tasting the big time as part of the Ohio State Program in the USA. He returned to South Australia for a time before taking on the top job at the unique and young Kalgoorlie Golf Course. Pat and I discuss the difficulties of managing turf in such an extremely hot and dry location and just how thriving the local Kalgoorlie environment really is contrary to what we all might think! EP.51 The Design Brief - Harley Kruse
Back to back segments of The Design Brief sees me this time catch up with The Golfing Greenkeeper Podcast resident Golf Course Architect Harley Kruse from Kruse Golf. The main point of this conversation however was to discuss working with golf courses on relatively small parcels of land. We discuss some of the challenges architects and clubs face when going through a redesign process on a small site and what things have to be considered. I also wanted to get Harley's thoughts on the question of are golf courses becoming too fast? I believe things are starting to get a bit out of control generally across the spectrum and does this have an effect on the thoughts of an architect. I hope you enjoy this more philosophical conversation with Harley and it gets you considering your thoughts as well. You hit 'em clean, we'll keep 'em green!
