GSP 028: The Mayor of Smile With Jean Paul Laurent
The very reason I started this podcast was to interview people like this episode’s guest. Not only is his story inspiring but his accomplishments so far and his mission for the future are to be applauded. I’m honored and thrilled to introduce Jean Paul Laurent, an award-winning social entrepreneur, published author, keynote speaker, devoted humanitarian, TEDx Lead Organizer, and one of the leading global oral health experts of his generation. From being a trouble maker expelled from school in Haiti twice to moving to the US to further his education to being coined the Mayor of Smile which eventually ended up blessing the bags of Lays Potato Chips everywhere, Jean Paul’s story is nothing short of extraordinary! He is described as “a visionary leader and unshakable optimist”. He has devoted his entire professional life to leveraging capitalism and philanthropy. He started an impactful non-profit organization in 2014 called Unspoken Smiles promoting both long-term oral health and economic security in the world's most disadvantaged regions. There is more…. Jean Paul has received the nation’s most prestigious award for volunteer service in 2016, the President’s Volunteer Service Award bestowed by the office of the presidency under President Barack Obama. Without further ado, it’s time to get social! GSP 027: I Don't Want To Die With My Music Unplayed With Kara Vaval
In one split second, your life can turn and change forever. How you deal with that change is everything. In her book, 28,000 Days, Make Yours Count, Kara Vaval makes sure to let us know how precious and limited time is. When she was just 14 years old, her life changed for the worse. But that did not stop her from making the very best out of it. Her no excuse hustle attitude has helped her build a career that most would only dream of even if everything aligned perfectly for them. "I don’t want to die with my music unplayed," she says. In this episode, we talk entrepreneurship, resiliency, motherhood, and a whole lot of bad-assism. Without further ado, it’s time, to get social! Follow Kara! GSP 026: Just Show Up! With Elijah Pasquet
It’s sure hard to start but it’s even harder to continue! How many times have you started something but did not finish it? I think it’s safe to say that most of us have done that. But it’s not that big of a deal unless you make it a habit. Just like most things right? In this episode, I have the honor and thrill to have Elijah Pasquet on the show. His philosophy is to just show up! He is a super talented guy with badass acting and photography skills. Great father, husband, and friend. A so-so basketball player. His dad is a living music legend which helps explain his talents. We actually share a lot in common... except for his six-pack. I have 5 more to go to catch up to him! Elijah might be the very reason why I’m here today talking to you all today on this podcast. He introduced me to podcasting when he told me about Stitcher, a podcast distribution platform. I started listening to podcasts and soon became a huge fan. It then led me to start my own podcast... obviously! In this episode, we talk about fitness, resiliency, discipline, and how we can keep pushing our boundaries to be better! If personal development is something that is of interest to you then I encourage you to listen to this episode. Without further ado, it’s time to Get Social!

GSP 025: The Power of Love
In this special Valentine's Day Edition, we are happy to welcome our guest, the one, and only...... LOVE! I truly believe that love is what we need in this world. Love has the power to heal us all. Love is pure, authentic, instinctive. We were born with the natural ability to love our children, our spouses, siblings, neighbors, and friends. We don’t need to learn how to care for each other. It’s already present within each and every one of us. We simply need to start looking beyond our own personal interests and learn how to share some of that love. But where do we start? How do we spread more love within our homes, communities, and throughout the world? Let's dig in and start with...

GSP 024: Education Is a Right! With Naïka Charles D'Haiti
Education is a right. Or at least I believe it should be. When you think about the impact that it has on a child and the opportunities that it creates, why is it not accessible to everyone? What would our communities look like if everyone had access to education? Less crime maybe? A safer, and better environment for families for sure. But here’s another wrinkle. Education does not start at school. It starts at home. So when you are born into an uneducated household, your chances at early development as a child are really slim. This cycle makes it very difficult for underprivileged communities to thrive and get out of poverty. In this episode, I have the pleasure and privilege to have Naïka Charles D’Haiti on the podcast. She is the founder of Project St. Anne, a non-profit organization based out of Camp-Perrin, Haiti. She has dedicated the past 12 years of her life to helping this charming community full of potential. I visited Camp-Perrin myself back in 2014 and that experience changed my life. Just like she is changing lives herself, giving the children in that area the hope that we should all have as human beings. The hope of a better future. GSP 023: What Our Bodies Want! With Dr. Thierry Jacquemin
The human body is an amazing machine. It really wants to function at its peak capacity. But how can we maximize its full potential to live better, smarter, and healthier? These are questions we should all be asking ourselves. Most importantly, these are questions we should seek to find answers for. In this episode with talk to Doctor Extraordinaire, Thierry Jacquemin and we get to discuss some topics that are so important to us all! From time and stress management to eating right and exercising regularly, the blueprint is laid out in front of us. But why is it so hard to implement? What about the water we drink here in the United States. The hormones, toxins, and antibiotics found in our food. How is that impeding our efforts to get healthy? When you top all of that with our obsession to be supermen and superwomen and be productive all the time, it’s a lot to digest. Pun always intended! GSP 021: The Power of Giving Back with Yosef Francisco Sigaud
How do you think the world would be like if 1 billion of us volunteered just 1 hour per week to doing good? Think about that question. In this episode, I have the pleasure of interviewing the Founder & CEO of ShareNest, Yosef Francisco Sigaud. Originally from Brazil, Yosef was lucky enough to get a scholarship to play tennis, at Purdue University Fort Wayne, where he got his engineering degree.  He then went on to get his MBA at Barry University in Miami, Florida. He always dreamed of making big money and living that lavish lifestyle that so many of us pursue.  Although he did achieve this dream, he soon realized how miserable he was inside. Life could not be about that, he said. He had it all but was still not fulfilled. He decided to quit everything to go volunteer for a non-profit for 8 months. This changed his life. He soon understood the power of giving back. "When you are doing good for the world you are also doing good for yourself", he added.  When he realized how big the gap was between the world GDP and giving back he felt he had to do something about it. That’s when he built Share Nest. A platform that connects people that want to do good to non-profit organizations. His mission is to foster more giving in the world! GSP 020: My Resolution Is...
First of all, Happy New Year! We’ve made it to Episode 20! I'm looking forward to so many more to go! It’s also the first episode of 2021. I’m so excited for this year. 2020 was a unique year, to say the least, but we’re not going to get stuck in the past. Instead, I want to focus on the lessons I never thought I would learn in this particular fashion. Some of those lessons include how important it is to prioritize your health, practice patience, lots of that, being able to adjust and pivot on a dime, compassion, and the most of all, understanding that the most important things are the most overlooked in a more “normal” setting. In 2019 and years before that, we prioritized things that were never that important, to begin with. We still do today of course, but 2020 made me realize that there is so much more joy in the moments you spend with the ones you love the most. I'm excited to share my resolution for 2021 and what I plan to do in order to get there! It's time to Get Social!

GSP 019: Homeschool is Cool - With Alex Telena
Let's face it, whoever is reading this right now did not grow up in the same world we are living in today. So much has changed since my days as a boy growing up in Port-au-Prince, Haiti. But you know what has not changed much? The education system. Although we do have cooler toys and tools to help us learn, we are still basically learning the same things when we are living in such a different world. Is it by design? Maybe! In this episode, we have the pleasure of having my friend, CPA, loving husband, and father of 4 beautiful girls, Alex Telena on the podcast. We discuss the pros and cons of homeschooling and the effects of today's world on our kids.  Now that my wife and I are expecting our 3rd child in about 6 months, it makes me wonder what life will look like for the 5 of us in today's climate. Is homeschooling an option? It's possible, but a whole lot of other things would need to happen first!  As always, I hope you find value in this episode, especially if you are a parent. GSP 017: Choosing Light - With Henryka Manès
From losing close to 100 family members to the Holocaust to dedicating her life to helping developing countries achieve autonomy, Henryka Manès shares her amazing journey with us. Henryka has been working with developing and emerging economy countries for the past thirty years, in Africa, Asia, Eastern, and Central Europe, the Middle East, and South America. Haiti is her 25th country and likely her last one. As the founder of Ecoworks International, she has devoted the last 11 years of her life to developing a program in Haiti that focuses on establishing agricultural cooperatives owned and governed by farmers for farmers. The co-ops are economic development engines and become a legacy farmers can leave to their children and grandchildren, therefore building self-reliance for those regions to further expand into greater territories. After all these years, she is still as passionate about her work as when she started. In 2016, she received the Tikkun Olam Award for her work in my beloved Haiti. Henryka has been an inspiration for me, a mentor and I’m lucky to also call her my friend. I hope you find value in her message just like I do on our weekly calls! GSP O15: A Social Dilemma
What is a social dilemma? I’m sure by now some of you have seen the movie The Social Dilemma. If that’s the case, you have a pretty good idea of what it’s about. And if you have not seen it, I strongly suggest that you do. It will change your perspective about social media. By definition, according to Wikipedia, a social dilemma is a situation in which all individuals would be better off cooperating but fail to do so because of conflicting interests between individuals that discourage joint action. I don’t know what this means to you but to me, this simply means that instead of joining forces to elevate each other, we’d rather worry about our own personal interests whether it hurts others or not. This topic is obviously important because the disparity between the haves and the have nots is embarrassing, to say the least. Although this is not the focus of this episode, but if you think about it, it’s actually almost always a consequence. The documentary talks about social media use and the effects that it has on society and how it manipulates us and controls us, how it affects our mental health especially in teens, how it’s used in politics, spreading conspiracy theories, keeping us on alert at all times. Causing us to experience stress levels we’re simply not built for. Think about it, our stress levels are always on blast! Our bodies are not designed to sustain stress for that long… non-stop. Stress is supposed to be a natural occurrence when your brain senses danger, causing your body to react and engage your senses and reflexes. So basically we stay in that state for extended periods of time which makes us sick. So we must be aware of all that. So here’s the dilemma for me… I’m a digital marketer. Social Media is a big part of what I do! But I still feel I should let you know of the dangers that comes with it.

GSP 014: Generational Impact Is Real, with Chris Barrientos
They say that success skips a generation. Whether or not that is actually true, generational impact is real! Seldom do we think of how the choices we make today impact our children and the generations to come.  But it shouldn't be that way. Our role as parents is to put our children in better positions than we were in ourselves? In this episode, we get to know Chris Barrientos, a talented, level-headed, driven young man well beyond his years. Chris and I met a year and a half ago. He cold-called me looking for a job at the most opportune time possible! At the very second I was expressing to my wife that I needed help growing my agency, my phone rings. Call it fate or whatever, but that call was the beginning of a mentor/mentee relationship that I value immensely. It means so much to me that I often find myself in the mentee role. I can truly say that I've learned just as much from Chris. Chris has a very promising future in the marketing industry or any industry he chooses because of his overall approach to life. I invite you to learn from him as well! Meet Chris! https://www.linkedin.com/in/chrisbarrien/ https://www.instagram.com/chrisbarrien/

Sports are about competition! Better yet, it’s about knocking out the competition. But it's also about teamwork, hard work, dedication, sacrifice. But sports are also about marketing! In this episode of The Getting Social Podcast, we get to pick the brain of Kenny Pordon, the former XFL League Marketing Director. We talk sports and marketing of course but he also shares with us his journey from assistant sports manager, to Commissioner Award Nominee for Innovation in the NFL, to Emmy Nominated Producer for NFL Rush Zone, leading to of course the role of Marketing Director for the XFL. GSP 012: The One About The Little Black Book of Social Media With Dr. Sharmin Attaran
This little black book is much different than the one you might have had during your school years. This is the little black book of social media. You might have heard about it on…social media most likely! Today I have the honor and absolute pleasure to have the Co-Author of this little black book, Dr. Sharmin Attaran on the show. Dr. Attaran is an expert in the field of Digital Marketing and enjoys researching how technology aids marketing communication and marketing education. She also designs various courses and programs in digital marketing at the undergraduate, graduate, and executive level. In addition to teaching and research, she runs a successful digital marketing consulting business aiming at refining marketing strategies for businesses along with workshops and training for non-profits and SMEs. Here's an example of what we spoke about! Did you know that in some cases the order value coming from your social media traffic is 4 times greater than the average order? Think about that for a few seconds. I’m pretty sure you now have a pretty good idea of what we’ll be talking about so let’s go straight to it! It’s time to literally Get Social!

In this episode, I have the pleasure of having my brother and sister (from another mother and father), Gaetan & Vania Policard, as my guests. We talk about their journey to becoming a power couple. GSP 010: Can Socks Be A Part Of Your Personal Brand?
Ok so let’s start with the socks, why am I showing them? Well in case you didn’t notice, or for those who only have access to the audio portion of the podcast, I have rockets on my socks. And the reason why is because I’ve been feeling like I’m taking off! This is episode 10 of the Getting Social Podcast and through the first 10 episodes, I’ve learned a whole lot. And the beauty of it all is not just technical stuff and the ins and outs of putting a podcast together. I’ve learned through my guests, I’ve learned to be resilient and more consistent so I’m grateful for that. Now the real answer why I’m showing my socks. My next guest, Jonathan Arias better known as the Prime Minister of the Sock Ministry has shown me a whole new way of appreciating socks! He is a badass lawyer, businessman, and family man and his passion for socks has been a part of his building his brand making this the perfect example of what personal branding can do for YOU! GSP 009: The Art of Storytelling with Tommy De Armas!
As human beings we’ve been telling stories since the cavemen days. Just look at the scriptures. They tell us the story of how they lived.    Today, when you watch a movie or read a good book, what fuels our attention to keep watching or reading? The story right? If the story is boring then we lose interest. It’s that simple! We even get to know the characters as if they were our friends or family. We care about them and all of that is because of their stories.    The art of storytelling however is not only used for movies, tv, books, and music, it’s also used for marketing! Marketers use storytelling to get the attention of the market they are targeting. An interesting story about that product or company will make us care enough to…. Buy!     In this episode, we have a fun, motivational conversation with Tommy De Armas. More than a graphic designer, he is the creator of Fishi! Fishi® is a Puerto Rico based Island Lifestyle brand inspired by a big-eyed fish. They produce creative designs on high-quality clothing and accessories to customers who enjoy the nautical, coastal, island life experience. Fishi is also big on the environment. Kinda makes sense if you think about it. Fishi lives in the ocean that we continuously pollute. Fishi's message to us, c’mon guys! You can do better.    It’s time to Get Social with Fishi!
