This week is all about Solo. I had the opportunity to go see the film last Wednesday with my son, and on this episode I share my thoughts with you about the movie. In this epsidoe I cover some of the basics of Doctor Who and give some reasons why I love this show so much. There is a lot to cover with a show that has been around since 1963, so I can't hit it all in one episode. I just kind of introduce who the Doctor is, why the Doctor does what he does and why it matters.  I also talk about how I got into the show, and offer some pointers on how to get started with the series for people who may be new to the franchise. I also warn about some of the ugly fans out there who don't think you're a real fan unless you like this Doctor or that episode. In this episode, I discuss the fandom for me that almost wasn't, but totally is- Harry Potter- I talk about being too cool at first to get into Harry potter, and happy I was when I finally gave in and started reading the bboks. I talk about the two guys at work who totally convinced me to read the books, and how grateful I am that they did. I also discuss what Harry Potter meant to me and my wife as we were first married, and how it was a way to bond together in a whole new way and why that mattered. It's still my wife's favorite fandom and some of her favorite books. Then I discuss how Harry Potter has become a multi generational thing for me and mfamily- how my kids love it now as much as I do and how it has brough my family closer. After one week off, I am back baby! And with an episode so big, I had to break it into two episodes. Holy cow! I can't believe week six is already here. I was so excited to sit down and talk to all of you abiut Star trek: The Next Generation, a show that I hold near and dear to my heart. It was the highlight of my week to prepare for this show and get it ready to share with everyone. I hope I do the topic justice. Mostly, I just had fun with it. In this episode, I talk about why this [particular show means so much to me. Why it mattered to me as a kid, and as a result, why it matters to me still today. This show meant a lot to me during some pretty tough stuff in my childhood life upbringing stuff. I also talk about the one thing I felt made this show so great. There were a lot of things that were good and great about this show, but there was one thing, particularly, that stood out to me and made this show one of the great shows of my youth and my adulthood and my eternity. I talk about that one thing on this epiusode. Finally, I end the show by talking about some of my favorite episodes from the show, and what I liked about them. There are a ton to choose from, and narrowing them down is always rough, but these are the kinds of things I am willing to do for you, my listeners, because you matter to me. I take a walk down memory lane, looking back on my personal history with Superman, and how much he has mean to me from the time I was a little tike until now. I also ramble a little bit about Slurpees, McDonald's cups, comics in the 90s and other things. In the end, I discuss why Superman has lasted so long, why he still matters and why I think he will continue to matter for a long time. This epsidoe is a long one, but it's hard to talk about my favorite guy in under 30 minutes. There's just so much to say, and I didn't even say all of it. Not even close. It's Episode 4! And this week is all about a summertime favorite movie of mine, The Sandlot. I sat down and watched this movie with my son Jak, and he was nice enough to join me on the show to talk about it.  We give a brief summary of the main plot of the movie, and then we talk about our favorite parts, our favorite characters, and overall what we thought about the film. Jak also learns about Erector sets and the difference between being an introvert and an extrovert. And he gives some sage advice if you ever find yourself in a similar situatuin as Smalls in the film and you are new to town and needing to make some new friends. Welcome to episode 3! In this episode, I am taking a look at being a geeky parent, and how we can share the interests of our kids and how they might benefit.  First I take a look at how we can share our own interests with our kids. Taking the time to share a favorite movie or show or with them is a great way to bond with them. You may even find that you both enjoy it quite a bit.  What happens when they are not interested in something you like? It's ok. Find something they like and still take an active interest in it. Bonding over these movies and these books is a great way to get closer over time, and will hopefully lead to a better relationship together down the road.
