#17 - Ultra runner Keith Russell
Keith is an ultra runner who has recently set an Irish, Northern Irish and UK record for the 'Last One Standing' event where he ran 422 kms in just 63 hours.Keith started running only a few years ago with his daughter Alanna who was born with spastic quadriplegic cerebral palsy. It was something they both really enjoyed doing together. Keith would run while pushing Alanna in her chair. They soon set their sights on the Dublin city marathon and completed it in an incredible time of just 3 hrs 21 mins. Alanna is still the youngest to ever complete the Dublin City Marathon.Very sadly, Alanna passed away just weeks after the marathon at aged 8, but she left an incredible mark on the running community in Ireland, so much so that the Dublin city marathon retired her race number 141, meaning that no runner will ever wear that number in the Dublin city marathon again. An amazing gesture.Keith kept running after Alanna's very sad passing. For him it was a way to deal with the grief and it gave him a focus. As Keith say's himself, he never thought it would take him as far as it did. Keith has since completed the Dublin to Belfast ultra-Marathon, he has ran 226kms in just 24 hours (that's over 5 marathons back to back, and most recently he has just broken Irish and UK records in the last one standing event completing 422kms in just 63 hours. An incredible story from an incredible person. If you're anything like me, you'll be going for a run after listening to this one...https://www.instagram.com/keith___russell/?hl=enhttps://ie.gofundme.com/f/help-nahyan-fight-cancerhttps://www.instagram.com/nahyanshigh5/
