ENP 030: Radio Skills with Jared Denaro
SHOW NOTES: Listen in as my friend Jared shares his story on how he got started in the radio industry and the SKILLS he has acquired along the way. How did you come to faith? Jared came to faith in Christ very young. His mom would tell him stories about how he used to want the Bible read to him very young. Around 5 years old he gave his life to Christ. Listen in to hear the whole story! What sparked the interest in audio production? Jared has always loved performance. Whether acting, singing, or dancing, Jared has done it! He is drawn to performance, expression, and ‘sending a message’. It was around high school that he had an opportunity to sign up for a class called Music Technology. This is where it all began :)   What makes a story good? “For a story to be good, it has to have a conflict…”   For a story to be good, it has to have a conflict. It has to have characters that are dynamic. It has to have some foundation in reality. It needs to be consistent within itself.   “People want to know how to succeed and how to change…”   People want to know how to succeed and how to change. A good story must address something that people are genuinely curious about.   What softwares would you recommend to our listeners? Adobe Audition Lynda.com FL Studios Auto Tune Pro Tools Logic Audioblocks Please leave a comment at the bottom of these show notes or use hashtag #ekballonation30 in social media. ENP 029: Interview with Brother Greg of Sermonindex.net
SHOW NOTES: In this episode I interview Brother Greg of Sermonindex.net. “…a place filled with the light and life of Christ”   Sermonindex.net has been a city on a hill to me. It is a place filled with the light and life of Christ. If you ever feel like you are off track in your Christian walk, please consider sermonindex.net a place you can go and see the road marks and guideposts to get you back on track. If you are already on track – consider it a place to stay on track! Our brother is from Canada, he enjoys Tim Horton’s coffee :) which I also like. He became interested in the web back when Mp3’s were the thing [so we are talking when the internet was quite young]. Listen in as he shares his life and the history of how sermonindex got started:   Recommended Books: Why Revival Tarries by Leonard Ravenhill The Pursuit of the God by A. W. Tozer A Hero of the Faith our Brother Admires: Zach Poonen, a brother from India who has a teaching ministry that has deeply impacted Greg [and me]. He’s a brother that can help remove thorns (the deceitfulness of riches, the cares of this life, and desire for other things) from the soil of your heart :) A Favorite Quote of His: “Only one life, ’twill soon be past, Only what’s done for Christ will last. And when I am dying, how happy I’ll be, If the lamp of my life has been burned out for Thee.” Another C.T. Studd quote: Some wish to live within the sound Of Church or Chapel Bell. I want to run a rescue shop within a yard of Hell. Please leave a comment at the bottom of these show notes or use hashtag #ekballonation29 in social media. ENP 028: Interview with Justin Long | ActBeyond
SHOW NOTES: In this episode I interview Justin Long with Act Beyond. Remember back in episode 6 when I interviewed Bert Hickman? Justin is also a missions researcher. Listen in as he shares his call, his story, and inspiration to reach the unreached.   A Favorite Quote: “The world has yet to see what God will do with, and for, and through, and in, and by, the man who is fully consecrated to Him.” – the Evangelist Henry Varley This quote was a catalyst for D.L. Moody in his ministry. It began to burn in his soul and it led to the student missions movement. A Recommended Book: The Lean Start Up – a business / entrepreneurship book that can parallel ministry and missions. Good News! Justin and his team are tracking 100 different church planting movements simultaneously in the earth right now. These are not just churches but rather church movements with around 1-2 thousand people in each movement, BUT some movements having up to a million people in each! This is incredible.   Justin’s contact info: Missionary Researcher, with ActBeyond – www.beyond.org My daily blog, “The Fine Print” on missions – www.justinlong.org Subscribe to get it in your inbox – http://eepurl.com/bp4jX1 Top 40 Least Reached Places/Peoples – https://gumroad.com/l/GCGOutlook Me @Twitter – http://www.twitter.com/justindlong Me @Facebook – http://www.facebook.com/justindavidlong   Please leave a comment at the bottom of these show notes or use hashtag #ekballonation28 in social media. ENP 027: How to reach 149 Punjabi’s without knowing Punjabi
SHOW NOTES:   “Is it possible for someone who does not speak a word of Punjabi to preach to 149 Punjabi’s in their native tongue and 21 of them actually listen to me the whole length of the message?”     Friends, it is not only possible but it did indeed happen!   The Virtual Field Report: $5.00 spent promoting the story of Jesus and the demoniac. This is a 15 min gospel video in Punjabi. 4,193 reached in the Punjab region of India [just North of Dabwali].  377 unique clicks on the video.  149 engaged and watched at least 30 seconds of it.  21 watched it to 95% of its length! $.24 to get someone to watched the whole message.  Got any change in your house?  1 quarter and a couple of minutes setting up a campaign can impact a soul for eternity  21 souls gave me each 15 min of their time. that equals a little over 5 hours preaching the gospel 1-1 with people in Punjab Jesus still delivers today. Jesus still brings people into their right mind.   Bottom line: The scriptures change people. God’s Word doesn’t return void. 21 people listening to a full message on His Word in their own native tongue on how Jesus restores isn’t going to go without seeds being sown deeply into people’s hearts. Keep praying that the message of the Lord may spread rapidly and be honored in the 10/40 window. And until next time pray the Lord of the Harvest to Ekballo Laborers! ENP 026: Pulling in the Virtual Dragnet, Perseverance, Luke 19:10
SHOW NOTES:   “How in the world did our engagement jump 533% with those who watched our most recent gospel video? And just who are these individuals in South Asia who are engaging with me?”     This is a follow up show to episode 25 where we build a custom audience with the video views tool in power editor. [You can learn more on how to do this by jumping onto a FREE live coaching session]. The report from “the deep”: $2.04 / $5.00 spent thus far promoting the story of Jesus and Nicodemus 67 / 80 reached of the custom audience (those who watched all of the last gospel video) 11 Unique Clicks 16.4% watched at least 30 seconds – this 533% increase over our general campaign which way around 3% watched @ 30 seconds. 11 watched more than 30 seconds – hearing the story of Jesus and Nicodemus 1 person watched the whole video during this campaign. but our audience was so small [67] and keep in mind this is at any given point in time too. [maybe they were doing errands, with a friend, etc., not in the mood] You can build on to this custom audience. Just who are these 11? they are probably youth, and most likely Islamic youth ages 13-25 in Pakistani and Afghan cities. A cost of $.17 per re-impact [those watching at least a portion of this new video] and remember we can continue to push gospel content to them as much and as frequent as we desire prayer and fasting will be key to continuing to foster these seeds of truth we will continue to experiment with articles and landing pages [to give away free digital bibles etc] you will bring forth fruit with endurance. [Luke 8] will you try this?? :) The Son of man came to seek and save that which was lost [Luke 19:10]. Keep in mind, these are the some of the hardest darkest region on the planet for sharing the gospel. But because of the grace of God through technology, we are now able to scale walls, move mountains, break through cultural barriers that missionaries in the past have longed for. Bottom line: we followed up. perseverance and endurance will bare fruit. We can continue to retarget our new friends as much and as frequent as I want. Keep praying that the message of the Lord may spread rapidly and be honored in the 10/40 window. And until next time pray the Lord of the Harvest to Ekballo Laborers! ENP 025: Acts 17, 80 Souls, Virtual Dragnets
SHOW NOTES: “Did 80 people in South Asia really just give me a combined 8 hours of their time to share the Gospel with them?” I recently shared a video on the ads platform of Facebook among some of the least lit regions in South Asia. It was the same gospel video from episode 24; however there was one huge difference: the use of custom audiences. I created a custom audience out of those who watched the video. This is equivalent to a virtual drag net. Listen in as I explain why. The report from the virtual field: 28,000. impressions 2,300 clicks 1,500 clicks to play video 825 30 second video views 27,000 uniques 1,800 unique clicks 2,400 video views 80 viewed to 95% Used Power Editor 10 likes 45 second average Acts 17:32 Resources: The Ekballo Course Custom Audiences Bottom line:  Facebook’s custom audience tool is very powerful. It acts as a virtual dragnet, so use it. Friend, I am not sure how much longer we will have the level of freedom we now have to share the gospel with such ease and effectiveness. 10 years? 5 years? I do not know…so take advantage of these means while we still have this freedom! Please leave a comment at the bottom of these show notes or use hashtag #ekballonation25 in social media. ENP 022: How I became a debtor to 71,000 Punjabi’s, My Encounter with Radical Hindu’s, and Much More!
SHOW NOTES: Testimony, In today’s episode I share my latest virtual adventure in India. I recently did a campaign promoting gospel content over in Punjab. My focus was on a city called Dabwali and it’s surrounding area. Think Oregon in U.S. geography. “…I got 71 likes!”   “…so overnight I became a debtor to 71,000 Punjabi’s…”   I decided to do a campaign there called ‘likes for Jesus’ , and involved my Facebook friends. I told my friends that for every like I got, I would share excerpts from the gospel of John (in Punjabi) with 1,000 individuals in Dabwali. This implied Dabwali and also it’s surrounding cities too. Well, I got 71 likes within 24 hours! My goodness I now had my work cut out for me. So overnight I became a debtor to 71,000 Punjabi’s in India – to reach them for the gospel. May 21st, 10:59 AM The first 24 hours of the actual campaign, I had reached close to 20,000. Praise the LORD. “OUTSTANDING DEBT: 71,000” “FIRST PAYMENT: 19,810 [16,786 promoted + 3,024 organic = 19,810]” “STILL OWE: 51,190”   My facebook update that day was: “Keep praying 2 Thessalonians 3:1 over Punjab India! “Finally, brethren, pray for us that the word of the Lord will spread rapidly and be glorified, just as it did also with you;”. Below is a map of our impact 24 hours into the campaign. We have send shock waves through out Bathinda and are now moving west to Malout and Abohar – just north of Dabwali. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Malout http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Abohar In Bathinda we reached 16,786 people with 1,756 interacting with the content. That is an 11.258% engagement rate which exceeded my expectations! Praise the Lord. Facebook gave us a relevance Score of 10/10. This means we are targeting the right people with the right content and are in good standing with our campaign. People are hearing about Jesus because of YOUR prayers and YOUR support.” It was a good first 24 hours to say the least. First fruits :) Here are some of the first fruits (individuals) who liked my post.   May 23rd 9:47pm Facebook update for day’s 2 and 3: By this time, over 5,000 Punjabi’s had engaged in one from or another with this gospel campaign! And another 20,000 had been reached. “OUTSTANDING DEBT: 71,000 REACHED” “FIRST PAYMENT: 19,810 REACHED” “SECOND PAYMENT: 19,966 REACHED” “STILL OWE: 31,224”   Below is a map of the second impact wave. We sent shock waves through out Bathinda, Malout, and Abohor. We are now were moving SOUTH to Dabwali and into the Haryana state.   Encounter with Radical Hindu’s: Now I posted about this on Twitter, sharing the good news with my twitter followers…BUT I was not prepared for what happened next.. “…they told me to ‘get lost’…”   Radical Hundu’s found my tweet about this campaign and BLEW UP! They told me to “get lost” and actually petitioned the government of India to revoke my visa. There was just one problem…I did not have a visa to be revoked because I was not physically in India :) “…But I was physically in Quebec, Canada…”   For those who don’t think internet evangelism isn’t a force for the kingdom – think again. These Hindu’s didn’t know the difference. They actually thought I was there physically and began to petition the government to revoke my visa! But I was physically in Quebec, Canada at the time. I was no where near Punjab (although, one could argue, I was as close as their skin virtually). “I am still a debtor…until every eye sees” _ I put the campaign on pause shortly after this, not due to the Hindu threat but because the cost per engagement was going up a lot – after reaching about 46,000. So as of the beginning of June, I am still a debtor to the Dabwali people over in Punjab, India. I hope to pay the debt off soon, but when I do, I will go be indebted to another people group. Yes I will become a debtor to all people – until every eye sees. Technology, Aomei Backupper Tag line: “Data protection with AOMEI Backupper, the best and reliable backup software, hard disk cloning & imaging utilities, and recovery tool.” Right before I started doing a lot of podcasting, video production, and blogging, my laptop died. And I lost everything I had on it (wasn’t much but still was a wake-up call…what if I did have a lot on it??). “…the technician…had mercy on me and told me an industry secret…”   After spending $300 to get it fixed, the technician who worked on it had mercy on me and told me an industry secret – Aomei Backupper, free backup software [and NO spyware or other junk with it]. Believe it or not, shortly after my computers first death, it died again! BUT this time Aomei Backup software saved it. I was so thankful that I had taken the tech up on his advise. Within a couple hours I was back up and running. All you need is: An external hard drive (1 TB should do for the average person) Then download the software. Then follow the instructions STEP 1 STEP 2 Do a disk backup, this was you grab all your partitions and it is saved to an image file. This is the easiest way to restore your whole system. If you are not tech savvy, please grab a friend who is to help you with this. It is so important today to back up your hard drive. Disasters happen, so be prepared. www.backup-utility.com/ Training, Matthew 7:7-8 New International Version “Ask and it will be given to you; seek and you will find; knock and the door will be opened to you. New Living Translation “Keep on asking, and you will receive what you ask for. Keep on seeking, and you will find. Keep on knocking, and the door will be opened to you. English Standard Version “Ask, and it will be given to you; seek, and you will find; knock, and it will be opened to you. New American Standard Bible  “Ask, and it will be given to you; seek, and you will find; knock, and it will be opened to you. King James Bible Ask, and it shall be given you; seek, and ye shall find; knock, and it shall be opened unto you: Holman Christian Standard Bible “Keep asking, and it will be given to you. Keep searching, and you will find. Keep knocking, and the door will be opened to you. International Standard Version “Keep asking, and it will be given to you. Keep searching, and you will find. Keep knocking, and the door will be opened for you. New International Version For everyone who asks receives; the one who seeks finds; and to the one who knocks, the door will be opened. Matthew 7:21-23 “I Never Knew You” 21 “Not everyone who says to me, ‘Lord, Lord,’ will enter the kingdom of heaven, but the one who does the will of my Father who is in heaven. 22 On that day many will say to me, ‘Lord, Lord, did we not prophesy in your name, and cast out demons in your name, and do many mighty works in your name?’23 And then will I declare to them, ‘I never knew you; depart from me, you workers of lawlessness.’ The Four shinning lamps The Will of God [Matt 7:21] Ask God to FILL YOU with the knowledge of His will through all spiritual wisdom and understanding – SO YOU can live a live worthy of HIM pleasing Him in every way, bearing fruit in every good work and growing in the knowledge of God, being strengthened with all power through His glorious might that you can have great endurance and patience –joyfully giving thanks to the Father who has qualified you to share in the inheritance of the saints in the kingdom of light! Do you know what Bible verse this is? Google it! The Heart Motive for God [Matt 7:22] Honor God by Honoring His Word – let that be where your confidence comes from NOT from miracles. God will work miracles through many people – even those who don’t honor Him and follow Him from a heart level. This is the plumb light to walking in the light. The Relational Dynamic with God [Matt 7:23] God wants to know people and people to know Him. Jesus wanted to have a deep abiding relationship with you and you with Him. Wait upon Him and listen for His still small voice – follow it wherever it leads. This is a ‘knowing’ relationship. The Lawfulness in God [Matt 7:23] Carry one another’s burdens and so fulfill the law of Christ –Gal 6:2. Love fulfills the law – Rom 13:8. ‘This is my command, that you love one another’ – John 15:12. This is how we abide in lawfulness with God. The 10 Commandments are the school master of God’s law that lead us to Christ. Although salvation is by grace alone through faith, our hearts should be inclined to abide by these commands as well for they lead us in the ways of Christ. If we are born again, we seek to please Him – and we know that walking according to His law pleases Him. Great song on love fulfilling the law: [soundcloud url=”https://api.soundcloud.com/tracks/208943233″ params=”color=ff5500&auto_play=false&hide_related=false&show_comments=true&show_user=true&show_reposts=false” width=”100%” height=”166″ iframe=”true” /] Please leave a comment in these show notes or use hashtag #ekballonation22 on social media, thanks! ENP 021: Testimony of a Child, the CRM Streak, and 1 Cor 4:20
SHOW NOTES: Testimony, In today’s episode I share a testimony my wife has about God healing her back through our son Daniel: “So I’ve got a testimony to share… For the last 6 days, my back has been feeling pretty messed up, not sure why (but I have a feeling it has something to do with carrying little kids around all day). I’ve tried everything I can think of to make it feel better–but to no avail. I was wondering if it was getting bad enough to call a doctor or chiropractor. So tonight, I asked Trip to pray for my back. He said he would…as soon as Daniel was in bed. But Daniel decided he wanted to play with Mommy, not go to bed–and since her back was messing that up, he figured that he should pray to Jesus right away to make things better. So, Daniel walked up, placed his hand on me, bowed his little head, and prayed in words I couldn’t understand. Then he turned around, walked away, and softly but with great confidence said, “Amen”. And I kid you not…as he walked away, the pain just disappeared. Just like that. Daniel didn’t even seemed surprised–he just said matter-of-factly, “All done Mommy back.” Matt 19:14 “But Jesus said, ‘Let the little children come to me and do not hinder them, for to such belongs the kingdom of heaven.'” -Christen Nine Matthew 19:14 New International Version Jesus said, “Let the little children come to me, and do not hinder them, for the kingdom of heaven belongs to such as these.” New Living Translation But Jesus said, “Let the children come to me. Don’t stop them! For the Kingdom of Heaven belongs to those who are like these children.” English Standard Version but Jesus said, “Let the little children come to me and do not hinder them, for to such belongs the kingdom of heaven.”   Technology, Streak is a CRM (customer relation management) tool that integrates with Gmail. Although CRM’s are traditionally meant for businesses and their sales teams, you can use a CRM to follow up with people you share the gospel with. Streak’s basic version of their software is free – so it won’t cost you a dime to use this amazing software. With Streak you can set follow up reminders to continue to stay in touch with various contacts – and through email, Facebook, skype, etc. For example, say you have a landing page where you give away a free Bible for someone opting into your email list. When that person opts in, they get a PDF digital Bible sent to their inbox, and you get their email. What do you do with that? You will want to follow up with them and begin a relationship. You will want to jot down notes so you can remember details about this person. And you can use a CRM to do this as well as set calendar reminders to follow up with them at a later date. Here is the sales cycle mapped out in Streak that you can re-purpose for follow up evangelism :) You have: Lead Contacted Pitched Demo Negotiating Closed – lost Closed – won   “Another amazing feature of Streak: every time they open an email by you, it gives you their location on google maps!” _ This next picture is an actual evangelism process scale, it is called the Engle Scale: It is a great tool to help you plot where people are so you can know how to effectively minister to them. It can also be helpful with re-purposing the Streak CRM tool.   Training, 1 Cor 4:20: New International Version For the kingdom of God is not a matter of talk but of power. New Living Translation For the Kingdom of God is not just a lot of talk; it is living by God’s power. English Standard Version For the kingdom of God does not consist in talk but in power. New American Standard Bible  For the kingdom of God does not consist in words but in power. King James Bible For the kingdom of God is not in word, but in power. I think you get the point :) God’s kingdom is not just a sermon on Sunday or a Bible Study on Thursday nights – it is the demonstration of God’s POWER manifest for the world to see and know that God is good. We are the hands and feet of Jesus, so it is up to us to begin praying for the sick at the supermarkets and expecting God to show up. It is easier than you think and love never fails, so even if they don’t get healed – if you step out of the boat and love them, you don’t fail! And remember the kingdom of God starts as a little tiny seed that can barely be seen, but all the DNA of Heaven’s power is within that seed – so GO plant it and let God bring the increase.   Please leave a comment at the bottom of these show notes or use hastag #ekballonation21 on social media. ENP 020: The Power of Sharing Posts, Google Collections, 1 Cor 2:3-5
SHOW NOTES: Theme Verses 11So Christ himself gave the apostles, the prophets, the evangelists, the pastors and teachers, 12to equip his people for works of service, so that the body of Christ may be built up 13until we all reach unity in the faith and in the knowledge of the Son of God and become mature, attaining to the whole measure of the fullness of Christ. – Eph 5:11-13 “But God chose the foolish things of the world to shame the wise; God chose the weak things of the world to shame the strong.” – 1 Cor 1:27 “Behold, he is coming with the clouds, and every eye will see him, even those who pierced him, and all tribes of the earth will wail on account of him. Even so. Amen.” – Rev 1:7 Testimony, Today’s testimony is a bit more closely tied in with technology than usual. When it comes to Facebook missions, re-sharing posts of larger ministries can go a lot further than just sharing your own organic content. Why? It’s a hidden treasure of the Facebook algorithm – all pages have their ranking distribution reach coded into their re-shares, so the person who re-shares the post of a very well known and liked ministry – even in the context of a un-reached region like South Asia* – they will get 10, 20, 30 times the reach among a non-Christian audience over posting on their own! *how do you do that? take the free Ekballo Course to find out. “It’s a hidden treasure of the Facebook algorithm”   I hope this drives the point home: EVEN if a large ministry on Facebook got their algorithm ranking by Christians liking their content – Facebook will give that same distribution REACH (10x, 20x, 30x your own) among Muslims, Hindus, Buddhists, etc! So you can leverage the likes of Christians to send forth His Word to the hands of the un-reached. Another other benefit to sharing content of larger ministries is you save time. You don’t have to create the content yourself. You save time and reach more people!! That is good news. “The moral of the story – its ok to be a river bed and let the rivers of living water rush over you – it’s all about Jesus anyway.”   My actual testimony: I re-shared a post on Psalms 103:3 with a page I have begun in Pakistan (among Islamic youth). It reached nearly 3,000 people who live in a land of darkness because Biblworld has a high ranking. If I had taken that same picture and posted it on my own – I would have reached 30-100 people there…so there is POWER in re-sharing posts. Other thoughts: “Paid promoted content is still very powerful. With the cost of a Starbucks latte you can reach 5,000-10,000 people over in South Asia with Gospel content (and within 24 hours). This is poor man’s televangelism – and it is awesome.” _ Technology, Google has just come out with a new platform called Collections. It is a competitor to Pinterest (it’s really just a Google+ thing) A lot of people are downers with Google+ but I love their Google Hangouts on Air service. You can broadcast to the nations for free – up to 1,000,000 people at one time. search engine optimization tip: “if you have a Google+ account and post to it – the words you use DO get preference in Google search engine. It is one sure fire way to get to page 1 on Google with without spending money.”   Training, 3 I came to you in weakness with great fear and trembling. 4 My message and my preaching were not with wise and persuasive words, but with a demonstration of the Spirit’s power, 5 so that your faith might not rest on human wisdom, but on God’s power. – 1 Cor 2:3-5 “Demonstrating God’s power is demonstrating His love. God loves to heal the sick. If you feel weak or maybe trembling with fear in going up to a stranger to pray for them – you are in good company, just remember the Apostle Paul.”   Practically speaking: If I am at Walgreen’s, Walmart, Subway, etc. and I see someone who is visibly sick or in pain, lets just say I have a history of praying for them. I do not want to set the tone that every sick person I see I pray for, but over the last few years, I have prayed for MANY that have had canes, were in scooters, were limping, had oxygen, etc. I would see God move in incredible ways – opening doors to give them gospel literature and seeing God touch their bodies. Just remember, love never fails, even if they don’t get healed, love never fails. But let me encourage you – BELIEVE for them to be healed because faith in God and His Word does bring healing. ENP 019: Interview with Scott Headily
The Ekballo Nation Podcast, episode 19: Interview with Scott Headily SHOW NOTES: About Scott Headily Scott has been in missions’ mobilization for decades. He has worked with the US Center for World Missions as a regional coordinator for their Perspectives course. He has a linguistics degree from the University of Texas at Arlington and is doing full time Bible translation work now. He has spent many years in Indonesia working to raise up Bible translators as well as share the gospel with his Muslim friends. Scott is an expert in language learning. He understands the theories behind language learning and desires to share his knowledge with others.   Thoughts on reaching Muslims in Indonesia through Facebook The One Story Project Audio Bible story method: creating a short audio clip in the target people groups language and cultural context and blasting it out to thousands in that geographical location on Facebook. Video Bible story method: creating a short video clip in the target people groups language and cultural context and blasting it out to thousands in that geographical location on Facebook. ***Scott points out that if you deliver a story in English among a unreached people group, only the top 1-2% will listen to it (who understand English well), but if you deliver it in the native tongue, many more will listen to it and pass it along.   Theme Verses “And this gospel of the kingdom will be preached in the whole world as a testimony to all nations, and then the end will come.” – Matthew 24:14     Recommended Books An Enquiry into the Obligation of Christians to Use Means for the Conversion of the Heathens – William Carey Carey was an early 19th century missionary and Baptist minister. He was one of the founders of the Baptist Missionary Society. He is credited with translating the Bible into Bengali, Sanskrit, and many other languages. Carey states that in order to spread the word of God it is first necessary to understand the religion of the world. Carey believed it is necessary to understand sin and how it has spread. Carey proposes that we look at the state of the world and then decide what more a Christian can do to enhance the Christian way of life. –source Speaking of Jesus: The Art of Not-Evangelism – Carl Medearis Some of us fear moments when we need to defend our theology. Some of us seek them out. But we are seldom ready the way Jesus seemed to be ready. So how do we draw others to God in the midst of these ordinary conversations the way Jesus did? In Speaking of Jesus, Carl Medearis draws on his experience of international reconciliation between Muslims and Christians to remind us of the heart of the matter: Jesus. Here he gives us tools, stories, and the foundation we need to move beyond “us” and “them” and simply talk about the One who changes it all. As Carl writes, “While others are explaining and defending various isms and ologies we’re simply pointing people to our friend. The one who uncovers and disarms. Who leads people right to himself. The beginning and the end of the story. A good story indeed.” (source, amazon) Muslims, Christians, and Jesus: Gaining Understanding and Building Relationships – Carl Medearis Based on the author’s twenty-five years of first-hand experience, this engaging book reveals what Islam really teaches and how today’s Muslims live and think. With practical information and personal stories, Carl Medearis shows readers how they can build life-changing bridges between the world’s two largest religions-one person at a time, whether in the U.S. or elsewhere. (source, amazon) Any 3: Anyone, Anywhere, Any Time – Mike Shipton Mike Shipman, a Southern Baptist missionary in Asia, took a bold and biblical approach to reaching the millions of Muslims in his country. Drawn from the patterns established by Jesus with the Samaritan woman at the well in John 10, Mike Shipman demonstrates how these same principles are relevant and applicable today. The result is, Any–3: Anyone, Anywhere, Any Time, a highly effective and deeply biblical five–step process that has seen thousands of Muslims say “Yes” to Jesus and enter into new communities of faithful discipleship. Any–3 provides biblical principles and practical steps that have equipped hundreds of Christians to witness confidently and effectively. Over the past decade, thousands of Muslims have been engaged with the gospel. Within the first few years, Any–3 resulted in seven generations of Muslim–background ch urches planting churches, with more than a thousand baptized believers. Any–3 introduces Christians to a five–step process that helps them to 1) get connected with Muslims, 2) get to a God conversation, 3) get to lostness, 4) get to the gospel, and 5) get to a decision. Hundreds of Christians have learned to walk this path with Muslims, leading thousands of them to say “Yes” to Jesus and pray to receive him into their lives as Savior and Lord. Any–3 is truly revolutionizing Christian ministry to Muslims. Through this highly readable new resource, you too will learn how to share the gospel with Muslims and bring them into new discipleship communities. (source, amazon)   Favorite Missions Quote “If you will hold the rope, I will go down into the hole” – William Carrey   Website Resources Growing Participator Approach The Growing Participator Approach is a language learning program developed by a couple named Greg and Angela Thompson. Greg and Angela do workshops all over the world teaching people how to learn languages quickly and effectively. Jesus and the Quran Our team shares an intense desire to see peace blossom between Christians and Muslims, and we believe that true peace can only be found in the Kingdom of God.  Our approach to these conversations about faith has its roots in the model of Jesus and his early followers.  We build friendships, study the Bible and the Qur’an together, and ask God to help us answer the all-important question: “Who is Jesus and what does He have to do with entering the Kingdom of God?” During a training weekend (usually spread across a Friday night and Saturday), we hope to equip Christians and Muslims alike to have these kinds of conversation in a fruitful, honoring way.  We focus on three major topics: (1) The Kingdom of God in the Bible, (2) Our identity within the Kingdom, and (3) Islam and the Kingdom.  Although historically the relationship between Christians and Muslims has often highlighted the differences between our faiths, we are confident that through prayer and patient study both can come to a robust, life-giving understanding of Jesus and the Kingdom. (text source from their website)   More Resources! Perspectives – a Christian missions course that Scott and I both highly recommend. Mission Frontiers Magazine – an unreached people group magazine to stay up to date with the mission efforts abroad. Global Prayer Digest – prayer guides to pray for the unreached!   Amazing Things to consider The church worldwide has reached 10,000 people groups within 30 years. There was 17,000 unreached people groups in the 80’s and now we are down to only 7,000! Missions leaders estimate that within a decade, the remaining 7,000 people groups will be reached. According to a study done a few years ago, the state of Alaska has more missionaries in it than the whole Islamic world. 74 Million People are on Facebook in Indonesia! Have a heart for Indonesia? ENP 018: Dr Ben Carson’s Dream, $15,000 CRM Software FREE for NP’s!?, Mark 1:15
This is the Ekballo Nation Podcast Episode 18: Dr Ben Carson’s Dream, $15,000 CRM Software Free for NP’s!?, and Mark 1:15. SHOW NOTES: Testimony, Dr. Ben Carson’s Dream as reported by the Christian Post: “Republican presidential candidate Dr. Ben Carson said God helped him “ace” his college chemistry exam by showing him all the answers. But he promised the Lord He wouldn’t have to do that for him ever again. Carson, who was a featured speaker at the official National Day of Prayer gathering in Washington, D.C., earlier this week, said he won a scholarship to Yale and thought he was a “pretty hot stuff” but only until he got to the end of the first semester. “I was failing chemistry; that wasn’t cool at all. And you can’t be a pre-med and fail in chemistry,” said Carson, an accomplished neurosurgeon and conservative Christian. The night before the final exam, he was thinking about his life. He prayed, saying, “Lord, medicine is the only thing I ever wanted to do… Would you please tell me what is it you really want me to do?” He planned to prepare for the exam the whole night, but fell asleep. He had a dream in which he was alone in an auditorium as some “nebulous figure” wrote out chemistry problems on the blackboard. “When I went to take the test the next morning, it was like ‘The Twilight Zone,'” he said. “I opened that book and I recognized the first problem as one of the ones I dreamed about. And the next, and the next, and the next, and I aced the exam and got a good mark in chemistry. It worked out okay,” he added. “And I promised the Lord He would never have to do that for me again.” Carson earlier told David Brody of Christian Broadcasting Network that there’s a “good chance” he will run for president as he can feel “God’s fingers” touching him gently for the 2016 race. In the interview, Brody asked, “How is that conversation going with God about this potential presidential run? Has He grabbed you by the collar yet? I read an article about that.” “I feel fingers,” Carson replied. “But it’s mostly me. I have to be sure and it’s part of my personality that says always look before you leap but don’t leap before you have to.” Source: http://www.christianpost.com/news/ben-carson-says-god-helped-him-ace-college-chemistry-exam-by-giving-answers-in-dream-138913/#vCP7od1Jb0Azds0h.99   Technology, Salesforce is a premier CRM (customer relation management) software. It is God’s rule and reign where the wrong things are made right. Look at the life of Jesus in the gospels and you will see the King’s dominion manifest. “AT HAND”: Take a look at your hands, they are important in the Kingdom of God. The Kingdom of God is ‘at hand’. It is as near as your hands – and in your midst (Luke 17:21). We are the hands and feet of Jesus – go take your hands, lay them on the sick and believe for them to recover (Mark 16). “REPENT”: Repentance is to change the way you think and act. It is the process of thinking about doing a u-turn, then actually taking steps to make that happen. God’s grace will help you actually do the u-turn. “BELIEVE“: Good news is sometimes hard to believe, especially in a world that is obsessed with bad news 24/7. But one must take the leap of faith – believing this Good News: that God loves us, God wants a personal relationship with us, God sent His Son Jesus Christ to pay for our sins, and we can be reconciled back to God through a relationship with Jesus Christ. “THE GOSPEL”: Gospel mean Good News! In a world where only bad news sells day in and day out – Jesus has provided Good News free of charge. Salvation, healing, and deliverance are found in Jesus. With Him, the sick are healed, the deaf hear, blind eyes open, and the dead are raised. This my friends is the Kingdom of God at hand. The good news is it is still at hand, we just need to believe it! Eternal Life is offered in Jesus – just look and live! ENP 017: Revival Hymn, LeadPages & Rafflecopter, Mark 4:13
SHOW NOTES: The Ekballo Nation Podcast Episode 17: Revival Hymn, LeadPages & Rafflecopter, Mark 4:13 Testimony, The Revival Hymn: this preaching compilation was so powerful to my own life many years ago. It is called the Revival Hymn because it is an assortment of sermons on reviving the Christian to earnestly seek God – put to music. Some of the preachers include: Leonard Ravenhill: Ravenhill was a spiritual giant in the 20th century. I personally believe it is because of the faithful prayers of men like him that the iron curtain came down and communism crumbled. He had such a burning heart for the people of God to separate themselves from worldliness and consecrate themselves unto God that after nearly every sermon I listened to I would be on my face in prayer. Duncan Campbell: Duncan Campbell was a mighty revivalist of the 1900’s. God used him in the Hebrides Revival of 1949-50. Paris Reidhead: Paris Reidhead is known for a famous sermon He gave on God NOT being a means to an end, but God being the glorious end. It is called ‘Ten Shekels and a Shirt’.  Technology, LeadPages: a virtual net for Facebook. I talk about the value of LeadPages in my resource section of Ekballo University. Below is a snippet of the resource section on the software. Let me illustrate the value of this software: You can use LeadPages  along with Facebook Ad’s to reach out to targeted people groups within Facebook and then redirect them to a personalized landing page where you can incentivize them with a lead magnet* to opt in to your email list. Why is this so important? Social Media alone will allow you to reach people, but engagement is limited. That is why you want to have tools that will help you pull them out of that platform into mediums that will foster greater depths of communication and relational commitment. *A lead magnet is anything you want to give away to entice people to opt in to your email list. It is a digital deliverable for a potential subscriber. Examples of kingdom oriented lead magnets:  a PDF gospel resource a short PDF testimony a digital PDF tract an audio book a short Bible video clip A lead magnet can be virtually anything that can be delivered electronically. Lead magnets are very useful for kingdom work to: build rapport with people “give more than you take” provide gospel Truth to someone who is seeking begin to connect with individuals With LeadPages you can begin to rapidly build email lists of people that the Holy Spirit is drawing to Christ. It is the easiest way to build a landing page and begin to “reap” emails. LeadPages acts as a virtual net within the platform of Facebook to pull people out of that platform into email lists where you can continue to foster communication with them. I have coined this practice ‘Netcasting‘. Examples of Netcasting locally: Send out invitations to: christian music events church BBQ’s healing prayer meetings cast the nets for Resurrection Sunday or Christmas Eve service. etc. Examples of Netcasting in the deep (aka abroad): broadcast a live event through YouTube and inviting them to it offer a Bible study with them over Skype teach them the Word over Google HOA [Hangouts on Air] put on a virtual healing prayer meeting (they will come!) etc. I have a heart to netcast in the deep – specifically in the 10/40 window. It reminds me of the word of Jesus when He said to Peter “cast thy nets into the deep”. However the challenges of this are language and cultural barriers. I would highly encourage you to partner with a missionary that is already boots on the ground there so you can work effectively in communicating the gospel. Rafflecopter: this a FREE simplified version of email collection that can be used inside of Facebook. Collecting people’s emails are very valuable because you own the list, you are not at the mercy of Facebook’s algorithm. Training, Then Jesus said to them, “Don’t you understand this parable? How then will you understand any parable? -Mark 4:13 There is a message within this verse. Jesus said “if you don’t understand the parable of the sower you will not be able to understand any of the parables”. This statement implies that if you do understand the parable of the sower, you will be able to begin to understand all the parables. ENP 016: Revival, Google and Facebook Security, Mustard Seeds
SHOW NOTES: In this episode I talk about the historic Welsh revival that Evan Roberts spearheaded. I discuss the importance of revival and how we should posture our hearts towards the Lord to revive our churches and land. I also talk about helpful Google and Facebook security practices: And I end the episode by talking about the meaning of the parable of the mustard seed: 30 Again he said, “What shall we say the kingdom of God is like, or what parable shall we use to describe it? 31 It is like a mustard seed, which is the smallest of all seeds on earth. 32 Yet when planted, it grows and becomes the largest of all garden plants, with such big branches that the birds can perch in its shade.” What do you think it means? ENP 015: Internet.org, Twitter Ads, Parable of the Sower
SHOW NOTES: Testimony: Internet.org is bringing internet to the ends of the earth. Their goal is to get the 2/3’s world that is not online – online :) I share a story about Punjab, India – a province of 30 million people with 3-4 million on Facebook. Can you guess how many people you can reach in 24 hours** for the cost of a plane ticket over there? Find out in the episode! **this example is based on Facebook’s estimations – promoting content to Punjab via the Facebook ads tool. Technology: Twitter Ad’s is another platform beside Facebook to spread the Word. I benchmark it up against Facebook dollar for dollar in effectiveness in first world engagement (Twitter does not have ad promotions right now in developing nations like Facebook). Listen in to find out the results! :)   Training: Matthew 13:3-9 3 Then he told them many things in parables, saying: “A farmer went out to sow his seed. 4 As he was scattering the seed, some fell along the path, and the birds came and ate it up. 5 Some fell on rocky places, where it did not have much soil. It sprang up quickly, because the soil was shallow. 6 But when the sun came up, the plants were scorched, and they withered because they had no root. 7 Other seed fell among thorns, which grew up and choked the plants.8 Still other seed fell on good soil, where it produced a crop—a hundred, sixty or thirty times what was sown. 9 Whoever has ears, let them hear.” Mark 4:3-9 3 “Listen! A farmer went out to sow his seed. 7 Other seed fell among thorns, which grew up and choked the plants, so that they did not bear grain. 8 Still other seed fell on good soil. It came up, grew and produced a crop, some multiplying thirty, some sixty, some a hundred times.” 9 Then Jesus said, “Whoever has ears to hear, let them hear.” Luke 8:5-8 5 “A farmer went out to sow his seed. As he was scattering the seed, some fell along the path; it was trampled on, and the birds ate it up. 6 Some fell on rocky ground, and when it came up, the plants withered because they had no moisture. 7 Other seed fell among thorns, which grew up with it and choked the plants. 8 Still other seed fell on good soil. It came up and yielded a crop, a hundred times more than was sown.” When he said this, he called out, “Whoever has ears to hear, let them hear.” What does this parable mean? How does it apply to an evangelist? Listen in as I explain part 1 of the parable. Also, on a laptop or desktop you will see an option to opt in to get a free copy of ‘Parable of the Sower – Part 1’, a resource where I go over the meaning of the ‘side of the path’, ‘the birds of the air’, and ‘the seed being trampled on’ in depth. ENP 014: France with Zach Frey
SHOW NOTES: My interview with Zach Frey, a good friend of mine from Gordon College. He is amazing – loves Jesus, is a skilled artist, and sees God’s healing power wherever he goes. He is serving God full time in France right now. Zach was healed by God of gluten intolerance and now God uses him mightily to bring healing to others. LISTEN TO THE EPISODE TO HEAR HIS STORY. Two videos where Zach is demonstrating the power of God’s kingdom: Salt and Light Boston Salt and Light Paris A day in the life of Zach: Zach is partnering with ministry called France En Fue (which translates ‘France on Fire’) This is a snap shot of his day: In the mornings he takes time to get with God. Then it’s off to learn the language with various meetings and administration task that are interwoven in. The team he is with put on worship nights as well as prayer meetings which he helps with. And Zach will paint whenever he can. He enjoys doing prophetic painting as worship to God. Zach has a background in graphic design. With this skill he helps do design work for France En Feu (France on Fire).  And he has also helped start a cafe the ministry is overseeing. Favorite Mission Quote: “May the Lamb that was slain receive the reward of His suffering! There were Moravian missionaries in the 1700’s that sold themselves into slavery to go and preach the gospel in the Caribbean. As the ship pulled away from the docks, it is said that they called out to their loved ones on shore, “May the Lamb that was slain receive the reward of His suffering!” This call, which has now being echoing for centuries has profoundly impacted Zach to lay down his life and follow Jesus wherever He calls. -two young Moravian missionaries “it’s ok if we are not 100% spot on in hearing God, what is important is knowing God’s character” -Dan Baumann Missionaries that have inspired him: Jackie Pullinger – A lone missionary to China who saw God move in incredible ways. Heidi Baker – She is a church planter in Mozambique who has seen tremendous fruit over the last two decades (8,000 bush churches planted). Dan Baumann – Amazing video testimony! Recommended books: Chasing the Dragon – Jackie Pullinger Inside Hong Kong was the infamous Walled City. Strangers were not welcome there. Police hesitated to enter. It was a haven of filth, crime, and sin. Prostitution, pornography, and drug addiction flourished. Jackie Pullinger had grown up believing that if she put her trust in God, He would lead her. When she was twenty years old, God called her to the Walled City. She obeyed. And as she spoke of Jesus Christ, brutal hoods were converted, prostitutes retired from their trade, and heroin junkies found new power that freed them from the bondage of drug addiction. Hundreds discovered new life in Christ. Chasing the Dragontells the whole amazing story exactly as it happened. Equally amazing has been the reach of this ministry, now detailed in this updated and revised edition. From Hong Kong to the Philippines, Thailand, and beyond, the ministry that started with Jackie and her friends taking people in to live and care for them has continued and developed to form the present St. Stephen’s Society. Readers will be inspired by this tale of trust and loving like Jesus. Christianity Rediscovered – Vincent J. Donovan This profound and thought-provoking book is one of the classics of modern missionary writing. Superficially just a good missionary story, about how one man brought a number of groups of Masai people in east Africa to Christian faith, it is something much more than that. For in what the author says about the method and content of evangelism; the meaning of the eucharist; and the nature of ministry, we are led back to the question our understandings of the mission of the church in all its contexts. For Donovan, his experiences in Africa meant a total reappraisal of the meaning of his faith, and therefore a rediscovery of his Christianity. His book, which is written with moving simplicity, continues to represent a provocative challenge to all those engaged in issues of evangelism and multiculturalism. Theme passage for the Episode: Psalm 103:8-18: 8The Lord is compassionate and gracious, slow to anger, abounding in love. 9He will not always accuse, nor will he harbor his anger forever; 10he does not treat us as our sins deserve or repay us according to our iniquities. 11For as high as the heavens are above the earth, so great is his love for those who fear him; 12as far as the east is from the west, so far has he removed our transgressions from us. 13As a father has compassion on his children, so the Lord has compassion on those who fear him; 14for he knows how we are formed, he remembers that we are dust. 15The life of mortals is like grass, they flourish like a flower of the field; 16the wind blows over it and it is gone, and its place remembers it no more. 17But from everlasting to everlasting the Lord’s love is with those who fear him, and his righteousness with their children’s children— 18with those who keep his covenant and remember to obey his precepts. The Character of God can be trusted. Things that stuck with me: In the last 2 years, the house of prayer movement in France has grown from 2 houses of prayer to 17 houses! – All across France. Dan Baumann’s YouTube testimony that Zach pointed to. Relationship and Authenticity are keys to peoples heart Please leave a comment in these show notes or use hashtag #ekballonation14 on social media. ENP 013: Gunfire at Muhammad Exibit, Facebook Translate, Power and Love
SHOW NOTES: The Ekballo Nation Podcast, Episode 013 – 5/4/2015 Theme Bible Verses from the Episode He that is wise wins souls – Proverbs 11:30 A brother offended is harder to be won than a strong city – Proverbs 18:19 Wisdom is proved right by all her children – Luke 7:35 Testimony Gunfire at Muhammad Exhibit – two suspects dead. My question: Is a cartoon contest about the Islamic Prophet Mohammed the wisest way to go about taking a stand for the freedom of speech? Listen in to today’s episode as I discuss the potential implications of it. I also share an example of what happened when an Egyptian film maker did something similar in principal to this a few years back – wisdom is proved right by its fruits. Coffee with a local Islamic leader – last year I had coffee with a local Islamic leader in my city. I gave him a copy of Tom Doyle’s book Dreams and Visions as well as a copy of the Gospel of John with apologetics. This man was peaceful and objective in how he approached his faith or others. I appreciated that. And one thing he said after he read the book I gave him shocked me. Listen in to find out what it was. Technology Facebook Translate Did anyone else know about this feature or am I the only one out of the loop? This is HUGE! What an amazing tool to begin to decode posts if you are sharing the gospel overseas with non-English speakers. I know that it is not perfect especially when it comes to conversational / street talk but this is still a valuable tool. Training Power and Love When it comes to needing sustained encouragement to hit the streets with faith to pray for the sick and share the gospel, I would recommend an Mp3 set of a Power and Love school. This changed my live back in 2013. Hope it encourages you! SHOW NOTES: The Ekballo Nation Podcast, Episode 012 – 5/3/2015 (photo of Matthew 5:14 courtesy of Biblword – a Facebook Bible verse ministry) Resources: Need a solid daily audio resource for God’s Word? Daily Audio Bible is the answer. It is a powerful and encouraging ministry going through the Bible in a year. Random News: I ran into Batman on the streets yesterday. Yes, I did get an interview with him. Yes, I put a clip of it in the show. Yes, he is keeping our city safe. Scripture insights: “And he departed, and began to announce in Decapolis what great things Jesus had done for him: and all men did marvel.” – Mark 5:20 Only 1 chapter later: “And he could do no mighty work there, except that he laid his hands on a few sick people and healed them. And he marveled because of their unbelief. And he went about among the villages teaching.” – Mark 6:6 The insight: “There is always marveling, either men are marveling at the works of God or God is marveling at the hearts of men” Theme Bible Verses: Persistence: 41 And Elijah said to Ahab, “Go, eat and drink, for there is the sound of a heavy rain.” 42 So Ahab went off to eat and drink, but Elijah climbed to the top of Carmel, bent down to the ground and put his face between his knees. 43 “Go and look toward the sea,” he told his servant. And he went up and looked. “There is nothing there,” he said. Seven times Elijah said, “Go back.” 44 The seventh time the servant reported, “A cloud as small as a man’s hand is rising from the sea.” So Elijah said, “Go and tell Ahab, ‘Hitch up your chariot and go down before the rain stops you.’” 45 Meanwhile, the sky grew black with clouds, the wind rose, a heavy rainstarted falling and Ahab rode off to Jezreel. 46 The power of the Lord came on Elijah and, tucking his cloak into his belt, he ran ahead of Ahab all the way to Jezreel. – 1st Kings 18:41-46 Passion: 14 Now Elisha had been suffering from the illness from which he died. Jehoash king of Israel went down to see him and wept over him. “My father! My father!” he cried. “The chariots and horsemen of Israel!” 15 Elisha said, “Get a bow and some arrows,” and he did so. 16 “Take the bow in your hands,” he said to the king of Israel. When he had taken it, Elisha put his hands on the king’s hands. 17 “Open the east window,” he said, and he opened it. “Shoot!” Elisha said, and he shot. “The Lord’s arrow of victory, the arrow of victory over Aram!” Elisha declared. “You will completely destroy the Arameans at Aphek.” 18 Then he said, “Take the arrows,” and the king took them. Elisha told him, “Strike the ground.” He struck it three times and stopped. 19 The man of God was angry with him and said, “You should have struck the ground five or six times; then you would have defeated Aram and completely destroyed it. But now you will defeat it only three times.” – 2 Kings 13:14-19 Dying to Self: “Very truly I tell you, unless a kernel of wheat falls to the ground and dies, it remains only a single seed. But if it dies, it produces many seeds.” – John 12:24 God moves even when you are weak: “I came to you in weakness with great fear and trembling. My message and my preaching were not with wise and persuasive words, but with a demonstration of the Spirit’s power,” – 1 Cor 2:4 God gives the increase: “I planted the seed, Apollos watered it, but God has been making it grow.” – 1 Cor 3:6 Prayer does not heal the sick, Faith does: “…However, when the Son of Man comes, will he find faith on the earth?” – Luke 18:8 “Now faith is confidence in what we hope for and assurance about what we do not see.” – Hebrews 11:1 Testimony My friend Scott sees God heal people weekly on the streets. I heard two stories from him yesterday – one about a foreign exchange student form Thailand and the other about a person who had M.S. since 2008. Listen to find out what happened. Technology Social story telling is so powerful. Just go hit the streets, love people and pray for them, then tell the stories of what happened on Facebook. Everyone loves a good story – and as they ‘like’ it, it will spread like wild fire. Training “Then the man who had received one bag of gold came. ‘Master,’ he said, ‘I knew that you are a hard man, harvesting where you have not sown and gathering where you have not scattered seed.” – Matthew 25:24 God is not a ‘hard man’, He is an easy Father. This servant who hid is one talent had a false paradigm about God. Sadly, it colored his ability to use the talent God gave him. We need to remember that God is not a hard man that we have to perform for. He is an easy Father that loves His children. He will open up doors for us as we co-labor with Him. You do not need to perform for His love, He already loves you. Just walk with Him and lift up your eyes – He will highlight the open doors. Then it is up to us to walk through them. Calls to Action: Buy Pocket Testaments, keep one in your pocket then go and look for opportunities to love and pray for people – giving away the literature, as you go about your day.
