318: David Palmer on Industry Transformations in the Web 3.0 era
Tom and Joe are joined by David Palmer, Founder & CEO of Bernoulli | Locke on this week’s episode. Palmer discusses his background in finance and hospitality, and how he made the transition to the forefront of decentralized, autonomous organizations (DAOs) in the blockchain world.  Palmer weighed on the increasing participation in the Web 3.0 era, where there is a trend of democratization in the world of art, finance, and sports. Drawing on his experiences in hospitality, he believes in the value of establishing communal connections through the passionate pursuit of one’s interests. Web 3.0 provides a platform that allows for greater transparency, more organic control, and ownership of the experience. The aim is to incorporate principles of Web 3.0 with existing organizations to create unique experiences for fans and members. Struggling to get his friends to participate in sports betting, he utilized his background in finance at Goldman Sachs to launch Lucra Sports as a more social alternative to traditional sports betting. For this new platform, Robbins talks about the importance of building a community for casual sports fans and promoting shared experiences through friendly competition. Next, the conversation touches upon the timing of his business, the lessons learned from existing social media, dating, and betting platforms, as well as the approachability and scalability of his startup.
