122: Manifest systemic change, starting with yourself with Rebecca Lefebvre
Episode 122. "It's not enough to just sit there and come to an awareness about it; you literally have to do something about it.” ~Rebecca Lefebvre After a year that’s spanned 42-odd months, the first episode of 2021 is a conversation steeped in practical magic, the kind that can recenter individuals and rehabilitate entire social structures. That’s a tall order, I know. Luckily, Rebecca Lefebvre BSW, BSN, RN is an expert with a gift for interpreting ancient tools and applying them to 21st-century challenges. As all those post-nominal letters indicate, Rebecca knows her way around modern systems: social work, science, graphic design, public policy, small business ownership. She understands what makes personal and public systems tick. And what has thrown so many of them out of whack. At Avec La Vie, her online shop, Rebecca curates a collection of products for conscious, purposeful living she created to restore individual operating systems. My favorite is her trio of lush, boxed card decks. With each nature-inspired deck, Rebecca gently ushers the querent through stages of contemplation, healing, and transformation. Collective Wisdom, the beautiful bi-monthly magazine that Rebecca began self-publishing in March of 2020, is another outlet for her interest in resetting our collective outlook. Each issue she says is a place where science and spirituality unite around insights, opportunities, and activities. Rebecca’s creative artistry and professional expertise are the perfect antidotes to the year that was. I’ve got my deck ready...  Full show notes, resources, opportunities, other podcasts & books mentioned... 121: Love and Healing in India
Episode 121. "He told me to stay, that love was more important than visiting temples.” ~Andrea Klunder It came to my attention recently that I did a whole series on travel stories and had not recorded my own travel story to share with you. And while I have been recording these conversations for you with amazing guests about travel AND now self-care, Erica Courdae and India Jackson offered a theme for the month of November in their professional DEI (diversity, equity, inclusion) network Pause On The Play. The theme: wellness. Perfect timing! And then one day India posted the following prompt in the group: What's the most adventurous or uncomfortable thing you've tried in support of your wellbeing? What were your takeaways? Now wellness, wellbeing, self-care... that was the industry that I was in, and ultimately feel like I failed in, for more than five years. Between yoga, meditation, therapeutic bodywork, Reiki, essential oils, tarot, acupuncture, sound healing, botanical skincare... I've tried a lot of things and they have often put me in uncomfortable positions, but the word 'adventurous' felt different. It immediately brought to mind a risk, more accurately, a series of risks that I took for my 34th birthday in 2012. I posted a response to that prompt in Pause On The Play and India asked me if I had yet recorded a podcast episode about that experience.  I was surprised to look back over my catalog of The Creative Impostor to discover that I hadn't... not really. But now that I have crafted that story on virtual paper, I see why I hadn't shared it. It feels vulnerable. I think it's because I have some regrets from this time in my life and from this story in particular. So, here goes... Full show notes, resources, opportunities, other podcasts & books mentioned... 120: Develop kinder habits with Kelly Covert from In Her Voice
Episode 120. "Perfection is not required.” ~Kelly Covert If your inbox is anything like mine (I feel for you), there’s no end to the number of resolution-writing guides you’ve received; everything one needs to generate! improve! accomplish! To say nothing of the bad habits you’re sure to (finally) crush.  As aggressive well-meaning as they are, those articles promising more and better ultimately leave me feeling less than.  It’s beyond time for resolution evolution! Inner-voice coach, author, musician, and podcaster Kelly Covert agrees. After years of failing to live up to grand resolutions, Kelly swapped quantitative perfectionism - those mostly material goals our culture loves to measure - for kinder habits. Kelly distilled these techniques into a quarterly journal called The Enoughness Planner. I love this format! Unlike traditional goal-setting, this guide prompts participants to discern the difference between conditioned expectations and deeply-rooted intentions. Once identified, you create a personalized routine to support what Kelly calls everyday worthiness. After that, it’s just a matter of building upon activities that make you feel good rather than ticking tasks off a homogenized list of accomplishments. Kinder habits and everyday worthiness. Better goals for the New Year.  Full show notes, resources, opportunities, other podcasts & books mentioned... 119: Tap into the abundance of energy, global travel meets sound healing with Shannon Harris
Episode 119. "It’s sort of like using frequency as a pharmacy.” ~Shannon Harris ***All music in this episode (other than our theme music) is used with permission from Shannon Harris, and is composed, produced, and copyrighted by Shannon.*** It’s not a stretch to say that travel is a form of self-care. As this series transitions from unusual travel paths to uncommon self-care, it’s not a stretch to say that Shannon Harris is the perfect person to help bridge the gap. Shannon’s a musician, DJ, world traveler, educator, Qi Gong practitioner, and mastermind behind Audio Pharmacology™.  What the...? You got it right if you’re thinking sound as medicine.  By tapping into the science of sound, he harnesses frequencies associated with the body’s systems. Acupuncturists enlist needles to impact the body’s energy flow; Shannon works with music. The goal of each is the same: to positively impact organs, brainwaves, muscles, chakras, tissue, etc.  To further his self-directed, sound-centric education, Shannon’s made travel a priority. Before the pandemic, he gigged around the globe, using his downtime to learn from local elders and spiritual leaders.  These days, he’s sticking closer to home. While he waits for the world to reopen, Shannon’s putting the finishing touches on a project that’s near to my heart: an immersive experience tailored to the needs of Chicago public school students.  Interested in Shannon’s original conscious music compositions? 118: Balance everything! Travel, work, podcasting, play with Debbie Arcangeles, The Offbeat Life
Episode 118. "I think we often overlook what's in our backyards. Like, it's ridiculous how many places that you can see if even if you just drive a few hours out and really appreciate what you have." ~Debbie Arcangeles Conversation with Debbie Arcangeles is a lot like spinning the giant prize wheel at a carnival: every topic is a winner. And since I’m terrible at choosing, Debbie obliged me with a spin ‘round multiple subjects - travel! entrepreneurship! remote work! work/life balance! podcasting! - in just under thirty minutes.   As the creative force behind The Offbeat Life, a business that includes her podcast, an entrepreneurial skills platform, and brand partnership opportunities, Debbie’s built a fully-remote lifestyle doing what she loves: traveling and speaking with people. While there’s a lot to love about her digital nomad perks, big lessons come with the territory. Some are cultural; like how her Filipino features are often mistaken for the predominant local ethnicity. Others are professional; like the amount of time she’s dedicated to growing her business. After years as an informal source for answers to entrepreneurial and digital nomad questions, Debbie created a menu of masterclasses and professional podcast services.  She’s equal parts teacher and cheerleader of the location independent lifestyle.  Debbie has tips for making the most of local life, and plenty of international tales to tell.   Hear some of Debbie’s favorite strategies for monetizing her podcast on the crossover episode she recorded for Podcast Envy episode 76. 117: Fulfill your passion AND your purpose with Rebekah Read
Episode 117. "I think it's always kind of a struggle of not feeling like I'm fully fulfilling my purpose. As much as I love my business and I love the freedom, especially, that it gives me - I mean, what entrepreneur doesn't love that? - but I still feel that lack of purpose." ~Rebekah Read Listen to The Creative Impostor’s current series, and you’ll quickly pick up on a theme: travel as a love story. The guests differ in age and background, but all have prioritized travel, building a professional life on the go. These inspiring people share a love for the places and people off the beaten path, some backing into romance on the road, while others have found forever homes in foreign lands.  Rebekah Read's story is a bit different but no less love-filled. “All of a sudden, I was thrown into motherhood and was not expecting that. I was 22, you know? I thought I was going to be doing marketing.”  Now 28, the Seattle-based owner of Rebekah Read Creative, a website branding agency, looks back at her younger self and knows with complete conviction that her trajectory pointed in one direction. Rebekah first visited Central America as a student fulfilling college degree requirements. She returned as a grad with her marketing degree in hand and big dreams of assisting a local non-profit with its messaging. Reality quickly settled in. Rebekah shifted gears, working on a foster care program for orphaned children while also providing ad hoc care in the nursery.  The physically, spiritually, and emotionally exhausting experience crystalized Rebekah’s desire to combine passion with purpose.  Digital nomads and skill seekers take note: Rebekah’s offering a Squarespace SEO course for $97 which includes a Facebook group for community support during your website revamp process. She’ll also host Round 2 of her online mastermind program in 2021! Space is limited and registration begins in November. 116: Shake it up a little bit with Adrien Behn, travel podcaster Strangers Abroad
Episode 116. "I really want other people to go out and live the most adventurous life that you can, and to fill your life with stories, because it's so easy to live the same exact year over and over and over again.” ~Adrien Behn It's The Creative Impostor's 5th birthday!!! Help us celebrate by... 1) Leaving a review for the show - tell us what you LOVE! (flattery will get you everywhere) 2) Sharing this episode (or your fave episode) on social - Tag me @thecreativeimpostor 3) Join me online for some virtual social connection in The Creative Collective on Mighty Networks (buh-bye Facebook Groups!) Reviews: http://ratethispodcast.com/creative The Creative Impostor Collective: http://www.thecreativeimpostor.com/community The best travel experiences are the most personal. Adrien Behn certainly proves that point. As the voice and vision behind Strangers Abroad, Adrien has crafted a podcast that plays like a series of immersive travelogues-as-intimate-conversation. In the process, she’s archiving the experiences that make travel so seductive and inviting listeners to take a chance on connecting with the unknown. In her quest to connect with the unfamiliar, Adrien’s travels remind her of the common thread that binds us all. Her approach is clear-eyed and grounded, as one would expect from a backpacker practiced in the arts of budgeting and making do.  “I sometimes think travel is really hard work because it can be very confronting and put you in a pressure cooker in a good way.”  Adrien reminds travelers - especially women - that the pressure cooker is what makes trips off the well-worn path worth the effort. And while she’s not advocating that anyone wander through Latin America with their soon-to-be-ex, she is suggesting that expansive growth takes place in the most unlikely travel circumstances. Pushing past the physical and mental boundaries of our comfort zones is a challenge anytime. During a pandemic, it can feel downright impossible. Adrien’s exploring several creative options to rev up her flow (feminist porn anyone?) but not forcing any of those endeavors too seriously. For the woman who published her first episode of season 2 of Strangers Abroad on the same day that New York City went into hard lockdown, low-key and local travel options offer the same mind-expanding experiences as future global adventures. It’s all about the deeper connection. Head over to Adrien’s crossover episode on Podcast Envy for insight into how she crafts such evocative audio adventures. 115: Fuel that part of yourself that is an adventurer with Jet Set Lisette Austin
Episode 115. "It can be done. You can bring the travel adventure home.” ~Lisette Austin Traveling is a state of mind - especially during a pandemic. And free access is awarded to those who think outside the box. Lisette Austin takes that axiom and spins it into COVID comfort for those suffering from acute wanderlust. Before she gifts us with her stay-put suggestions and addictive optimism, however… Allow me to cry into my teacup for a moment. Chances are if you’re an avid traveler (or were an avid traveler) before COVID, you’re doing some crying of your own -- perhaps into a different beverage but tears all the same. There’s a frivolous kind of torture that XXX my soul every time I hear a jet engine roar overhead. Planes crisscross the sky all day long - but no one’s going anywhere. Especially not me. Or you. Unless you’re lucky enough to live beyond the restrictions imposed on US passport holders. So what’s a globetrotter to do when the world’s in timeout? Jet Set Lisette as she’s known to her podcast audience and travel-hack students has some ideas, and they all begin with this question: what is the thing inside us that makes travel feel so important? The answer, she says, strips away all the admittedly fun distractions that add flavor to our trips and reconnects us to our heart-centered motivation. Is there a salve that recreates the adventure and connectedness of travel? “Travel can feel like this amazing, quick vehicle for those kinds of experiences,” says Lisette. By identifying core motivations and using those as prompts, pouty armchair travelers (with teacups in hand) will land on resourceful ways to bring the feeling home and pass the time until the world opens up again.  Psst: Listen to more Lisette on a crossover episode of Podcast Envy! 114: Strive to be a global citizen with Sarah Mikutel, Postcard Academy
Episode 114. "I think we should all strive to be a global citizen and to get past, you know, our immediate doorstep.” ~Sarah Mikutel Sarah Mikutel is back! This time, for her Creative Imposter close-up. If you haven’t yet tuned in to our conversation over on Podcast Envy...queue up that episode immediately. On it, you’ll hear Sarah share her evolution from avid podcast listener to creator of two+ shows: Postcard Academy, Podcasting Step-By-Step, and a *secret* one that takes niche podcasting to the next level*.    For this show, Sarah treats us to some lyrical, sensory-laden armchair travel. If, like me, you’re aching to feel the excitement of landing in a foreign country again, Sarah’s origin story of sorts will spark creative daydreaming. Her predictions for post-pandemic wanderings will prompt you to revisit that travel vision board you shelved way back in March.  What sets Postcard Academy apart from other travel-focused media is the lens through which Sarah presents her stories. Her narrative exists outside the Eat, Pray, Love trope, the lost soul that - for better or worse - has become the defacto persona of many female-driven works. Instead, she provides an alternative viewpoint, a fun and informative guide for the average traveler. “I like to feature women, and we talk about their adopted city and how they made it happen and get their insider food and culture tips.”  *Want the details on Sarah’s *secret* show? 113: Follow your deep craving with Zselyke Kecskés
Episode 113. "I was incredibly romantic because all my ideas about working and becoming a professional and building my career, they were already a little bit torn apart by me quitting my first job.” ~Zselyke Kecskés This episode is a love story, an old-fashioned romance with a quirky meet-cute, all filtered through the lens of decidedly modern challenges: WhatsApp courtship, COVID complications, and digital nomadship. It’s the stuff of Netflix dreams – with a dose of reality that only serves to make the story more relatable. The heroine of this adventure, Zselyke Kecskés, is a multilingual digital marketing specialist for small business. Her decisions may appear scattershot on paper. Girl goes to a mountain meditation retreat. Girl meets boy. Girl and boy spend intense days together. Girl travels 30 hours to be with boy one week before starting a new job. And that’s just where the story gets exciting! Listen closely. As Zselyke’s journey progresses – from Hungary (the country of her birth) to Chicago (her current location) – the main drivers of her life become apparent and begin to make complete sense together.  Wanderlust and belonging are competing forces on paper. The push to get out vs the pull to settle down. And the two apply not only to travel but to jobs and relationships as well. But beyond the incredible travelogue that Zselyke’s story provides (especially in the time of pandemic-paused roaming), her life experiences are a reminder that the two work well in tandem if we allow ourselves the space to let them play out.  Links, resources, opportunities... 112: Talk about what's in your heart with Lisa James, Adventurous Midlifer
Episode 112. "Travel will humble you quickly.” ~Lisa James Mark this episode as your first dose of The Creative Impostor’s cure for cabin fever, a prescription for passport blues and Instagram envy in the time of COVID. Lisa James kicks off a series of conversations with travel storytellers. The woman behind Adventurous Midlifer is challenging the rigid terms by which influencers are defined - and fostering genuine connections along the way. An intrepid adventurer, Lisa’s embraced travel realness since she first grabbed her passport, her backpack, her five-year-old twins and set off Guatemala. In 1999. Pre-5G. Post-Guatemalan civil war.  35 countries later, Lisa’s enjoying her life as the antithesis of Instagram’s typical travel influencer. She’s Black, budget-conscious, and middle-aged. She doesn’t even like taking or posting pictures all that much! Not exactly a POV found with a quick scroll. “I just felt like I wanted to create something where I can talk about what I love - which is travel - but I can talk about what's in my heart, that's relevant to this season in my life, of midlife.”  Links, resources, opportunities... Or, more accurately, how much creative humans have in common with molting parrots. Hang with me; this episode isn't wall-to-wall ornithology talk. I recorded my conversation with Vocal Leadership Expert and Podcast Host Tina Dietz way back in the before-times. Still, her message about self-acceptance and faith in our creative evolution rings doubly true at a time when putting our trust in anything is a struggle. She just happens to equate this transition with shedding feathers.  As founder and CEO of Twin Flames Studios, Tina molds (not molts) experts into influencers, teaching clients how to amplify their message. Whether it's through their own podcasts, as guests of other shows, or as in-demand speakers, Tina's vocal leadership expertise goes beyond the simple correction of speech mechanics. Transitions rarely come without challenges. There's the macro level, global shifts taking place right now, and then there are the awkward personal doubts and missteps.  You're not wrong for feeling vulnerable. Massive life changes force us to question our personal and professional identities.  Happy molting! Links, resources, opportunities... BONUS: COVID is Good for Creators with Lucas Spivey, Culture Hustlers
"Whenever there's a big shift in the world, those who have the most embedded power stand to lose the most. And those who have had little power, like small businesses, artists... they have an opportunity to seize that moment, pivot quickly in a way that most of these large institutions can't and take advantage of the new landscape.” ~Lucas Spivey By listener request, I am brining you this bonus episode with Lucas Spivey, founder of Culture Hustlers, to talk about how COVID is good for creators. What? Yeah... trust me... Culture Hustlers is a business school for creators made by creators. It's also an educational media company, which produces podcasts, documentaries, photo essays, all telling the story of how artists, designers, performers, writers, and makers can not only make art, but they can make a business. Culture Hustlers has a cohort of different creators all over the world from 35 States and five countries so far who are creative people working together to help each other to build a business model. Lucas and I had about 20 minutes to catch up online to chat about challenges and opportunities for creatives right now just before the launch of the NEW COHORT assembling for September 2020. Applications are due Monday Aug 3rd so don't delay! 110: Resilient, resourceful, creative with Andrea Klunder
Episode 110. "A lot of businesses aren't going to survive... even those that do are gonna look different on the other side of this. And that's okay.” ~Andrea Klunder I want to have a little heart to heart with you today about where we are right now, how we are right now.  Moments ago, I completed a recording session with Pat Wetzel, founder of Cancer Road Trip (from episode 109.) We were recording a conversation for her brand new podcast Bump In the Road. We know what that means, right? It's when things are going along one way and then, then whoops -- Yeah -- Not going along so great. There's a hiccup. There's a problem. There's a change of plans that is required and maybe not welcome. I think that we could safely say that the vast majority of us have in 2020 hit a bump in the road. I mean, what are the chances that we would all hit one at roughly the same time? 109: Find the path with Pat Wetzel, CancerRoadTrip
Episode 109. "Ultimately, it’s up to you to craft your own life.” ~Pat Wetzel, author, traveler, founder & creator of CancerRoadTrip When I asked Pat Wetzel to imagine her life in the wildly uncertain future, the creator of CancerRoadTrip and the new podcast Bump In The Road, responded with complete certainty.  But first… To understand Pat’s optimistic attitude toward the personal and the professional, it’s helpful to know how she got here. Diagnosed with supposedly inoperable cancer in 2009, Pat embarked on her treatment journey to discover that “care” rarely addressed experiences beyond the physical.  AntiCancerClub was her antidote, a platform that gave voice to cancer’s unspoken topics (social isolation, fear, spiritual inquiry, and the shifting nature of friendships). Investors followed and the project gained momentum only to suffer devastating legal and financial blows culminating in the loss of her intellectual property and her house. With no place to call home, Pat set out on a road trip.  The much-needed change of scenery became a perspective-shifting project that eventually morphed into CancerRoadTrip. If she could find healing on the road, why couldn’t she recreate that environment for others?  But nothing is easy. Outside forces have, once again, forced Pat to idle in place, this time in the form of a travel-restricting pandemic.  Get the full show notes, resources, and connect with Pat at http://www.thecreativeimpostor.com/109. *** Launch Your Podcast Zoom Class  Tune in for this interactive overview of crafting a podcast you and your audience will love! 108: See who your followers are at their core with India Jackson from Flaunt Your Fire
Episode 108. "We will get through this. It does require being innovative. It does require, you know, really, really being clear about what you want. But that's a beautiful thing because it allows you to focus on only that and not what you were told you should want." ~India Jackson, brand, marketing & visibility specialist India Jackson is in the business of giving companies and solo entrepreneurs permission to be themselves. As CEO of brand agency Flaunt Your Fire and host of a podcast by the same name, India busts people out of their marketing ruts by providing strategies to connect their inner motivations with their brand’s external actions.   “Visibility,” says India, “is a two-way street.” Without proper guidance, the vital connection between brand and audience can get wobbly. And that’s during the best of times. Throw in a pandemic (a recession! social crisis!) and suddenly the entire foundation crumbles under fuzzy social media goals or tepid convictions or engagement oversights. As dire as these issues seem, they’re fixable if the entity in question is willing to go deep. “Creating a connected community is a lot easier when you’re able to go beyond the surface.”  India’s got tips to help us get started with tweaking our message or embarking on full scale introspective brand analysis, including simple tactical upgrades to try like a brilliant IG hack for keeping track of connections! Right now, the universe seems to be sending us a clear message: Now is the time to transform the brand/audience relationship. India’s expertise can help us turn prefab monologues into meaningful conversations.  P.S. India also co-hosts and co-facilitates Pause on the Play podcast & community with Erica Courdae from episode 106 -- Collaborate with other leaders in a safe space to support diversity, equity + inclusion with intention..  Get the full show notes, resources, and connect with India at http://www.thecreativeimpostor.com/108. *** Amplify your voice - podcast with me! 107: Special Recommendations for Creatives Right Now
Episode 107. I didn’t have the words so I’m borrowing these shared by community members in She Podcasts. We stand with our sisters from the WOC Podcasters led by Danielle Desir and crafted by Tangia Renee. Their words below: PODCASTERS FOR JUSTICE CAMPAIGN Collectively, we have built engaged audiences that listen to our voices regularly, and with coordinated effort, we can combine OUR voices to take a STRONG stance against racism and police brutality. We serve many audiences, but we can speak with one voice. One voice that does not mince words and demands justice. We created this simple PSA for podcasters or any content creator to post and share in hopes that we can come together across digital spaces to support the work of activists on the front lines of change, who risk themselves daily to create a better world for us all. Please join us in using your voice to take a stand and encourage action at this critical time by issuing the following statement on your podcast or other digital platform(s):  We are (podcasters/bloggers/youtubers/influencer/etc.) united to condemn the tragic murders of George Floyd and Breonna Taylor and many many others at the hands of police. This is a continuation of the systemic racism pervasive in our country since its inception and we are committed to standing against racism in all its forms. We believe that to be silent is to be complicit. We believe that Black lives matter. We believe that Black lives are more important than property. We believe that we have a responsibility to use our platforms to speak out against this injustice whenever and wherever we are witness to it. In creating digital media we have built audiences that return week after week to hear our voices and we will use our voices to speak against anti-blackness and police brutality, and we encourage our audiences to be educated, engaged, and to take action.   Suggested Action Steps 1. Read this statement on your next show release and post the above statement and graphic to your social media feeds. (You can get the graphic from me in the show notes at http://www.thecreativeimpostor.com/107)   2. 106: Allow space to simply connect with people with Erica Courdae, diversity, equity, inclusion consultant
Episode 106. "Community is even more so important when people do feel disconnected physically.  So it's still important to be able to figure out -- we are now virtual and even any of the in-person components are now kind of shifted -- So how can we make sure that nobody feels as though they're not included?" ~Erica Courdae, Diversity, Equity, Inclusion Consultant Everything I knew about structure I’ve had to reframe, reexamine, re...structure over the last 5,000 weeks of shelter-in-place. Multiple times. There have been days in which my professional systems and personal habits have operated at next-level peakness*. Glorious stretches of productivity. Seemingly boundless hours high-vibiness*. And then… The inevitable at-capacity crash. Chances are, you’ve wandered around in that fog yourself. Multiple times throughout the pandemic’s never-endingness*.  Erica Courdae is a Baltimore-based, multitalented mother and entrepreneur who’s navigating the deep end of uncertainty with realistic optimism and structures-in-progress (rather than hyper-aspirational, GOOPiness). As a salon owner, creator of the podcast Pause on the Play, and diversity, equity, and inclusion (DEI) consultant she’s feeling her way through the process of managing professional and personal expectations. What does “safety” look like IRL for a salon owner? How does a DEI consultant convey her message in an exclusively virtual environment? What the heck does homeschooling a kindergartner and a second-grader look like? How does self-care exist now that outlets for simple pleasures are off-limits?  *terms created to mildly amuse in week 5,000 of lockdown - it’s come to this. 105: Increase your visibility with Nicole Otchy, personal sytlist and branding consultant
Episode 105. "Getting dressed is a conversation with ourselves before it's a conversation with anybody else." ~Nicole Otchy, personal stylist, branding consultant, podcaster What’s your wardrobe style? That question can short circuit the finely-tuned minds of otherwise competent people. Throw in a pandemic with its whiplash-inducing pivot to online all the time meetings or events and you’ve got a recipe for closet calamity. Performed without context, all the recent Kondo-izing or late-night online buying binges can add up to a closetful of clothes but no strategy for creating outfits that project a sense of the person behind the brand. Enter Nicole Otchy, personal stylist, personal branding consultant, and host of The Self Styled Podcast, a show helping listeners unlock their personal style. Yes, before you say anything, it’s Nicole’s firm belief that everyone has style. Things get complicated, however, when confidence gets hijacked by chatter. Conversations around how women “should” dress are mired in all sorts of “rules” - for our body type, our age, our career path or industry. Everything’s changed, seemingly overnight, and dressing can be an act of self-care right now. As the world shakes off its layers of pandemic pajamas, however, greater emphasis will be placed on virtual professional events and entirely revamped careers. Nicole also foresees drastic shifts in shopping habits and as well as a greater emphasis on societal wellbeing. In other words, if you haven’t given style much thought, now might be a great time to revisit how you intend to style yourself and your brand for the future. 104: Change the systems that aren't working with Sarah Buino
Episode 104. "I will just reiterate to be kind to yourself and let's not continue to do grind culture right now. We don't have to be productive. And if you're not productive right now, you're doing it right." ~Sarah Buino, therapist, podcaster, speaker, founder Head/Heart Therapy Ready for some virtual therapy? Truthfully, I’m casting a side-eyed glance toward anyone who, at this point in the pandemic, answers, “Nah. I’m fine.”  And this is why I’m not a therapist. But returning guest Sarah Buino, LCSW, CADC, CDWF, is and she’s here to say it’s fine if you’re fine...for now. Whatever you need to do to support your mental health, to save your business, to care for your family, to get through these weird, exhausting days (weeks, months), is exactly what you should be doing.  As a fellow content creator and podcast royalty in her field, Sarah’s life on the other side of the mic hasn’t changed all that much. At Conversations With a Wounded Healer, she continues to connect with practitioners of various modalities, discussing the parallel paths of healing the self while caring for clients. As host of Transforming Trauma, a podcast produced by The NARM Training Institute, she finds no shortage of topics to explore within the world of complex trauma. As the owner of Head/Heart Therapy, however, Sarah’s on the frontlines of the tele-health battlefield.  Given the haphazard response to the pandemic by some of our institutions (looking at you, health insurance, banks), she’s cautiously optimistic that the masses will galvanize, especially around the subject of tele-health, and change is gonna bleepin’ come! Until then, how about some tips from Sarah for preserving our mental health and a delicious smoothie recipe?
