A Strength That Inspires Action, Tarique Kenny
On today’s episode I speak to Tarique Kenny, a young man who despite living with a rare chronic disease called Cystinosis - which attacks all of his organs – is pursuing a life of excellence. During this episode Tarique shares what it is like pursuing your dreams when you are not even sure if you will wake up tomorrow. He speaks about the difficulties he faced mentally, emotionally, and physically growing up – from being unable to have a normal childhood and play with his friends, to experiencing kidney failure and having a kidney transplant at the age of 14. Tarique however does not see himself as a victim, and says that God has chosen him to carry the burden of this disease with strength and inspire others in the process. Today Tarique is pursuing a career in media, works at a radio station, while completing his degree, and so much more. Tarique has been privileged to present in front of President Cyril Rhamaphosa and attend an expert consultation with the United Nations regarding children's rights on the Internet. Tarique accepts the fact that someone living with this disease has a low life expectancy – he says that there are only 19 of them living with this disease in South Africa and that every year or so one of them are called home, with the most recent loss being a few weeks ago - but this does not deter Tarique from pursuing the dreams and goals that he has. In actual fact it allows him to live every day as the gift that it is. Stay tuned, as we speak about the biggest challenges Tarique faced, his struggles with depression and anxiety, and how he always searches to find purpose in his pain.
