Five universal policy goals to enable a circular economy at scale | Episode 23
Our recently published set of five Universal circular economy policy goals will enable governments to benefit from the circular economy as they pursue a resilient recovery from the COVID-19 crisis that offers solutions to key global challenges such as climate change, biodiversity loss, and pollution. In this episode, we have compiled the best moments of our discussion panel on the subject that was streamed live on our channels on 2nd February. Designing a circular economy for fashion - The Fashion Show (ep 5/5)
In the fifth and final episode of our fashion-focused series, we're looking at how to apply circular design to fashion.Design will shape the fashion industry’s transformation to a circular economy. More than 80% of all environmental impacts from products are determined at the design stage. In this episode, contributors to the Foundation’s upcoming Circular Design Guide for Fashion book join us to explore what circular design means for the fashion industry.-The Ellen MacArthur Foundation is a UK charity working on business, learning, insights & analysis, and communications to accelerate the transition towards the circular economy. Transforming the fashion industry - The Fashion Show (ep 1/5)
The way that clothes are made today is extremely wasteful and polluting. For the fashion industry to thrive in the future, we must transform its current take-make-waste model into one where clothes are kept at their highest value and designed to never end up as waste. In a circular economy for fashion, products (apparel, footwear, and accessories) are used more, made to be made again, and made from safe and recycled or renewable inputs. In the first episode of this five-part series, the Foundation's Make Fashion Circular (MFC) team explain how a circular economy for fashion works.-The Ellen MacArthur Foundation is a UK charity working on business, learning, insights & analysis, and communications to accelerate the transition towards the circular economy. Urban intersections: visualising hidden resource flows
Resource flow analysis in cities relies mostly on quantitative methods which often overlook informal sector activities. However, informal actors provide vital services in African cities, and must be part of our future imaginaries of cities. The Covid-19 pandemic has exacerbated existing challenges for this sector such as access to food and limitations to transport and infrastructure. To achieve urban resilience, food-, water- and energy-security, and successful decision making, we need to include analysis methods that bring to light hidden resource flows in our cities.  In the final episode of the current series we are joined by experts from ICLEI Africa, Solophina Nekesa, Professional Officer with the Urban Systems team  and Paul Currie, Manager of the Urban Systems Unit. We’ll explore how photography and storytelling can complement quantitative understanding of livelihoods, resources, and infrastructures in cities from across Africa. To view the Hidden Flows exhibition discussed in the episode, visit https://www.thenatureofcities.com/hidden-flows-rise-africa/

Stephanie Kelton on Redefining the Story of Our Economy
Do we really understand the economy? Do we truly know how money works? Join us in this episode as Stephanie Kelton discusses the role of Modern Monetary Theory in shifting common misconceptions around government deficits. We tend to associate deficits with negative connotations such as rising taxes and destabilisers of the economy. However, is this the result of the deficit itself or rather the decision making of governments? Is it possible to shift our use of government deficits towards boosting job creation, driving innovation, and propelling us towards an economy of regeneration and restoration; a circular economy? The Ellen MacArthur Foundation is a UK charity working on business, learning, insights & analysis, and communications to accelerate the transition towards the circular economy.
