May 9th, 2021 - Top Gun Day
Join the Reverend Jeff Smith as he takes to the air...waves, that is, to celebrate a particular sort of flying! May 13th is "Top Gun Day" when we celebrate the 1986 film and the Navy Fighter Pilot school that inspired it! The Reverend will explain a bit about both, offer some suggestions on how to celebrate said day, explain why quoting the movie at the actual school can get you fined, talk about the upcoming sequel due out later this year, and reminisce about his experiences flying as well as confronting his fears of doing it during COVID-times.

May 2nd, 2021 - Paranormal Day
Join the Reverend Jeff Smith for a particularly spooky topic of discussion! May 2nd is Paranormal Day, when we acknowledge the things that go bump in the night, be they spirits or just noisy plumbing. The Reverend will discuss the origin of the day itself, offer some suggestions on how one might celebrate it, and then dig into the science of paranormal events which, so far, suggest that this whole ghost business is a lot of hooey. But he'll end with his personal take and, while he's not a "believer," he does acknowledge the possibility of there being things we just don't know yet!

April 26th is a day chosen for the number, LV-426, which is the world on which humanity discovers an alien known only as a Xenomorph. It's Alien Day, and we're going to be celebrating that film franchise all morning long! The Reverend will detail the origin of the day, offer some suggestions on how to celebrate it, examine the artist without whom the franchise would never have achieved its current level of love and renown, detail the amazing cast we were lucky enough to see together in the first two films, and the Rev'll tell you his favorite behind-the-scenes story from the making of the first film!

Join the Reverend Jeff Smith for the observation of a special day that hits very close to home for everyone at Spirit of Resistance Radio! It's time to celebrate the birth (in 1874) of someone without whom we couldn't do what we do here in the Church of Classic Rock! It's International Marconi Day, when we celebrate the life of Guglielmo Marconi and the invention he mastered that still informs people around the world: Radio! We'll examine how the day is celebrated, talk about how radio stays relevant in the 21st century, briefly explore the history of radio, reveal how radio was, perhaps, the most important ally to the counterculture movements of the 60s and 70s, and the Rev has a few radio memories to share with everyone as well!

March 29th is Smoke and Mirrors Day, but rather than focus on the magic side, we're going to look at how the theory is being used in modern politics. The Rev will explain how it's related, and then delve into the biggest smoke and mirrors attempt of the modern age: Q-Anon. He'll talk about where it all started (and how), why it's so insidious, what can be done to combat the damage it's doing to the American political and social landscape and, finally, he'll discuss the difference between regular conspiracy theories (which can be somewhat entertaining) and the dangerous mind-f*ck that is Q-Anon.
