After hearing the second verse of Time2 at the end of episode 306 of The Hip Hop Digest Show, I immediately purchased Post Traumatic Stress Disorder, the 4th and most recent solo album from Queens, New York born MC and former member of rap duo Organized Konfusion. Inspired by the album's sheer brilliance, I dug deeper into Pharoahe's back catalog and also bought his previous two releases: W.A.R. and Desire to create a cohesive mix. I even got the homie Earl in on some convo towards the end. Word to Curt G...

In this edition of The BvlgariBlack Beat, I put together a select mix of K'naan tracks. You may or may not have heard of this Somali born MC, but I doubt you'll forget him.

Question. Is Macklemore Hip-Hop? Until recently, I would have answered no. After viewing the music video for Wing$ and discovering his debut "The Languge of My World" I have to reconsider, Thrift Shop be damned. Some of my fellow Hip-Hop snobs think otherwise, however, so I compiled a select mix of Macklemore tracks to state my case. Here's to you E. Color.

Hip hop digest asked "what was the first posse cut?", to which I replied "we're all in the same gang". Now in my mind I know that's not the first posse cut; it couldn't be because The Symphony predates it by at least two years. But it is the first one that I heard growing up. By the way, a posse cut is defined as a track that involves successive verses by four or more MCs. George j added that it might be Rappers Reprise by Sugarhill Gang and the Sequence which released in 1980. I did a little research and discovered that in that same year, Afrika Bambaataa and Soulsonic Forced released Zulu Nation Throwdown. So the first posse cut is probably a toss up between those two tracks. Mista merv mentioned the he recently conversed about hip hop anthems, which prompted me to ask "what constitutes an anthem?". By definition, an anthem is a rousing or uplifting song identified with a particular group, body, or cause. So with the word anthem defined, we proceeded to go back and forth listing one hip hop anthem after another: O.P.P, Summertime, Fight the Power, Self Destruction, and of course I brought it around full circle with We're All In The Same Gang. I then decided that I wanted to compile a mix of my favorite posse cuts, and as I listed these tracks I noticed that many of them doubled as hip hop anthems. So what started out as a posse cut mix ended up as an anthem mix, or better yet, a posse cut/anthem hybrid mix. So shout out to hip hop digest, mista merv, and george j for inspiring this edition of The BvlgariBlack Beat. So, I'm about to hit y'all up with that. But not before I hit y'all with some convo with the homie. We always end up in a stand off whenever we chop it up about music and this convo is no exception.

It's been a long time...you know the rest. I've been brainstorming and my attention has been elsewhere, thus, the month long hiatus. In this installment, I chopped it up with the homie Earl in my first ever phone inetrview about the then pending Zimmerman verdict.

Hov on that new shit so I remixed his old album. This week I present to you the second half of the American Gangster 2001 mixtape. Enjoy.

Hov dropped MCHG this week...and the ball, in my opinion. So instead of serving you a BvlgariBlacked out version of Magna Carta, I dusted off one of his most slept on albums and gave it a new coat of polish. In this weeks episode I mashed Dre Dre's "2001" with Jay's 2007 release "American Gangster". Hopefully this will hold you over until his next album release.

J. Cole dropped his sophomore album "Born Sinner" last week. Is it dope? I copped the album and had mixed feelings about it initially, but for the most part I enjoyed it. The only gripe that I have is that he sings way more than I care for. If there were only a way to mechanically seperate the fair from the foul. Oh wait, that's exactly what I did this episode! I present to you the Bvlgari Blacked out Born Sinner; enjoy.

It's been a long time. I shouldn't have left you...without something dope to step to. I've been busy and instead of leaving y'all dangling on hold, I put together this screwed and chopped version of 2Pac's best album (in my opinion). Enjoy.

I rank Field Mob as one of the most slept on groups in hip-hop. I received criticism from a fellow podcaster for listing them as the # 3 all time hip hop groups, so in return I compiled a mix of some of my favorite tracks from Shawn Jay and Smoke, collectively known as Field Mob. Here's to you King Killa!

Once upon a time Lil' Wayne was a dope M.C. Though he didn't crossover until the release of The Carter series, his dopest material was before Mannie Fresh defected from Cash Money.

I didn't have any specific topic to discuss, so I blended a few tracks from 2Pac and company. Can you correctly guess the theme? See y'all next week; Enjoy.

It's been a long time; I shouldn't have left you...without something dope to step to. During my hiatus I experimented with the technique pioneered by the late legendary DJ Screw. Inspired by his creativity and work ethics I decided to aid in his dream of screwing up the world. I present to you a screwed and chopped version of Lupe Fiasco's Food and Liquor 2: The Great American Rap Album Part 1.

Happy Pillaging Plundering Pilgrim Day, I mean Thanksgiving. In this episode I go in on bootlegging and the crowded rap landscape. Afterwards I give you a palate cleanser in the form of an original track beneath a classic Ludaris cut.
