Mapate Diop, Founder DIOP
DIOP created apparel that "will always reflect my experience living in the space between my heritage and my lifestyle as a first-generation American": diaspora-inspired streetwear. Stemming from custom garments made from Ankara: a boldly colored and patterned fabric used throughout West Africa, DIOP brings this heritage to the public through tops, shorts, bandanas, hats, and now masks. When Covid19 hit, there was a need, and a desire, for their unique patterns to be made into masks. Founder Mapate Diop discusses their genesis, pivots, and marketing patterns that helped his company go viral during 2020.Special Guest: Mapate Diop.
