Kinsey Casey currently serves as the Chief Operating Officer for the City of Pittsburgh under Mayor Bill Peduto. She comes to the City of Pittsburgh after serving as the inaugural Chief of Staff at Emerge America, a national nonprofit that trains Democratic women to run for office. Previously, she served as the Deputy Chief of Staff to the Chancellor of the University of Pittsburgh. Kinsey also served in the Obama Administration for seven years, as Chief of Staff for Secretary John Kerry’s Office of Global Partnerships at the U.S. State Department. Prior to her time at State, Kinsey was the National Security Director for Presidential Personnel at the White House, where she managed political appointments across national security-related agencies. She began her service in the Obama Administration at the Department of Homeland Security, where she managed domestic and international travel logistics for Secretary Janet Napolitano. Kinsey has worked on local, state and national campaigns and has held leadership roles in a number of large-scale events, including President Obama’s 2009 Inauguration and the 2008 Democratic National Convention in Denver, Colorado. We talked to Kinsey about what exactly her job with the city involves (spoiler: there's no "typical" day) and her love of bureaucracy (really!)

AmyJo Brown is project editor for the Pittsburgh Media Partnership, a new collaborative of local news organizations working in the greater Pittsburgh region.  A veteran investigative reporter and western Pennsylvania native, Brown has worked in local newsrooms around the country, at publications of all types — from the East Oregonian in the cowboy country of Oregon to the Arkansas Democrat-Gazette in Little Rock to Pittsburgh’s alt-weekly, the City Paper.  She is a member of Take the Lead’s 2019 cohort “50 Women Who Can Change the World in Journalism.” Brown also teaches journalism as an adjunct instructor at Point Park University and is the secretary/treasurer of the Pittsburgh Pro chapter of the Society of Professional Journalists. We talked with her about her goals for the Pittsburgh Media Partnership and got her thoughts about local journalism and the potential for collaboration.

Jessica Strong is the co-founder and co-CEO of Flexable, which provides on-site, on-demand childcare at events, conferences, and workplaces, allowing these places to be more inclusive and accessible for parents. She has a few undergraduate degrees from Ohio State, and a master's in public policy/non-profit management from Carnegie Mellon. She has worked in education, mental health, as a freelance grantwriter, and created a coworking space with on-site childcare prior to launching Flexable in 2016 with her co-founder, Priya Amin. She has 3 kids, a husband that runs his own company, and a dog, and this combination means that she doesn't really have time for any hobbies that don't involve napping or coffee.  We managed to get her on the show despite her crazy schedule for a very interesting conversation about childcare, workplace equality and how the women in Pittsburgh's startup  scene support each other.

Shaunda McDill joined The Heinz Endowments in October 2017 as the program officer for arts and culture, following more than a decade of nonprofit executive and arts management experience.  Shaunda has worked for theater companies across the country, including The Goodman Theatre of Chicago, Second Stage Theatre, Yale Repertory Theatre, Pasadena Playhouse and Cornerstone Theater Company. She also founded demaskus, a nonprofit, service-oriented collective of artists and administrators who produce theatrical projects sharing stories of the marginalized. In Pittsburgh, Shaunda served as vice president of programming and cultivation at the August Wilson Center for African American Culture, where she managed all artistic and educational programs. As the Pittsburgh Cultural Trust’s director of public relations, she headed both national and local public relations campaigns, including the North American premiere of Florentijn Hofman’s Rubber Duck Project. Shaunda spoke with Natalie and Kim about the depth of culture in Pittsburgh, and her work connecting artists with resources.
