Authentic-Creativity-Nomad-Travel-Bob Davis Podcast 989
Authentic Creativity and Nomad Travel First of all authentic creativity and nomad travel go together. Secondly we’ll talk about it in depth in Authentic-Creativity-Nomad-Travel-Bob Davis Podcast 989. Authenticity Most importantly while people value authenticity, there isn’t much of it around. Thought Processes of Creating Certainly I consider thought processes as a part of creating content. Lots of Content On the other hand there’s a lot of content on various platforms. Not Genuine Even more much of this content doesn’t seem genuine, creative or authentic. No Time To Think and Dream To clarify I don’t think content creators have enough time to think and dream. Too Busy To Create! In short many creators are too ‘busy’ to create. Enter the nomad lifestyle. Above all there’s no tether for the nomad. There’s no ‘coming home’. Because the nomad is home where ever he is. The Zen Of Nomad Life Moreover I’ve learned there is a zen to this life. More Time Somehow In the same vein there’s more time think and to think about what you’re thinking about! In Depth At least that is how I have experienced it. And, I talk about it in depth in Authentic-Creativity-Nomad-Travel-Bob Davis Podcast 989. Untethered Finally there is something about the pace of ‘untethered‘ travel. Whim Is Real For example the ability to decide to go South or North, East or West depending on your whim. Time Slows Down In other words time does slow down. You are alone with your thoughts. No Peace In Today’s Culture To sum up sometimes it seems as though you can’t get a moment’s peace in our day to day culture. Not Easy For instance we’re always listening to watching something. Texting. Communicating. Stop and go traffic. In addition it feels like most people are just irritated just about all the time. Nothing Is Easy Not A Care In The World Likewise I have had some bad days traveling but for the most part it’s like I don’t have a care in the world. Happy? In short the other day someone asked me if I was happy. “Happier than I have ever been”, I said. Carolina-Outer-Banks-Quest-Bob Davis Podcast 988
In The Carolina Outer Banks Firstly I am in the Carolina Outer Banks on a quest to find the ultimate weather beaten old school beach town. Learn more in Carolina-Outer-Banks-Quest-Bob Davis Podcast 988, Atlantic Coast Challenges Secondly from Florida to North Carolina the Atlantic coast is a challenge for travelers. Back Roads Always Even more I’m staying off the interstates and taking the back roads. On The East Coast A Lot Of Frustration Traveling off the interstates adds up to a lot of stop and go traffic and frustration. Myrtle Beach…Oh God For example Myrtle Beach, South Carolina. Welcome To New Jersey Stop and go traffic. An endless stream of shopping centers. Auto Parts stores. Worn miniature golf places. Beach? We Don’t Need No Stinking Beaches! In the same vein you can’t get to the beach. Too many high rises and retirement villages. Memories of Florida…Back In The Day On the other hand I can always revert to halcyon memories of Florida back in the day. Before the onslaught of development. Outer Banks Most importantly we come to the Outer Banks of North Carolina. Finally Finally the Atlantic Ocean. Without having to park in a high rise parking lot. Weather Beaten Villages Moreover this is where you’ll find the weather beaten, old school villages. Welcome Home To The National Seashores Meanwhile as I drive these National Seashores and stay in the National Parks Campgrounds I realize the importance of these designations. Certainly there are some who feel the national park system can be over bearing. Without National Reserve Designations…More Golf Resorts However especially here I get the impression that without these national designations, these coastlines would just be more condos and golf resorts. Development Done Poorly To sum up, I’m not even talking about environmental stuff so much here as the fact that development in these resort communities is often done poorly. Essential In short while I suppose development is essential for communities, sometimes it’s better for everyone is it isn’t allowed at all. Wiping Out History Likewise the urge to put in golf villages, hotels and condos all along what used to be a pristine coast may or may not be an environmental issue. However it does have the effect of wiping out history. Back To The Memories Finally I go back to the memories of visiting the Atlantic Coast as a boy, especially in Florida. Before the big rushes of the 80’s, 90’s and two thousands. Great To Find An Unspoiled Coast In conclusion we all want modern conveniences. But when you’re looking for a pristine beach or a vision of what it was like back in the day, it’s really great to be able to find it. Truck-Stop-Cooking-Talking-Bob Davis Podcast 987
Truck Stop Cooking Talking Above all there’s nothing like Truck Stop Cooking and Talking. Reviewing the Spring Break Road Trip so far in Truck-Stop-Cooking-Talking-Bob Davis Podcast 987. No Small Talk Most importantly I don’t do small talk. Taking Stock First of all as I think about the trip and some of the experiences so far it’s a good time to take stock. The Flying J Secondly the setting is a rather worn Flying J in Georgia, just off I-95 near the Florida border. Driving All Day Certainly I’ve been driving all day. The Other Florida People think of Florida as palm trees and beaches. And it has those things. But much of Florida and especially northern Florida is largely rural and agricultural. Recent Interviews and Experiences Therefore my thoughts turn to one of the interviews in a recent podcast. Holding Space During the podcast I interviewed the owner of a coffee shop in a small town. Someone who seemed to be doing what I call ‘holding space‘ for the community and her own passion for the work. Take The Detour Moreover this was one time where I allowed myself to take the detour and spend some time in the community. Small Is Beautiful In the same vein the idea of ‘small is beautiful’ comes to mind, and I wanted to talk about it in Truck-Stop-Cooking-Talking-Bob Davis Podcast 987. Growth Obsessed For instance small business people these days are beset with admonishments to grow. Over Motivated Even more we small business owners can be over motivated and ‘amped up’. Win Striving for growth. To win. Losing Themselves? On the other hand what if all this motivation causes a business person to lose themselves? Community and Clientele What happens to the community and the clientele as a result? The Great Experience In short we’re all looking for that ‘great experience’. Where Does The Great Experience Come From? In conclusion I am beginning to think that singular experience comes from business people who are more concerned with ‘holding a space’ or ‘holding space’. Exceptional To clarify ‘small is beautiful’ doesn’t mean poverty. It might just be a better way to create something truly exceptional. Even more it’s not for everyone. Small Can Be Beautiful To sum up if you’re feeling down because your business isn’t on it’s way to being traded on the Dow, just remember small can be beautiful and truly special. And A Pan Fried Steak And so is a steak perfectly pan fried in the corner of a truck stop in Georgia. Springbreak-Part2-The-Interviews-Bob Davis Podcast 986
Springbreak Part2 The Interviews Firstly it’s Springbreak and time for some interviews in Part2 of my travels to Florida this spring. Learn more in Springbreak-Part2-The-Interviews-Bob Davis Podcast 986. Interesting People? Secondly as a nomad Podcaster people I meet always say, “Boy you must interview some really interesting people”. Certainly there are interesting people out here. Until… But generally speaking I find most people don’t have much to say when you stick a microphone in their face. Interviews…Meh Even more I am not big on interviews. The Thing In Podcasting Yes, interviews seems to be ‘the thing’ in Podcasting. However I don’t do what everyone else does. I Do Find People To Interview Every now and then I run across people to interview, though. For example two young spring breakers in Panama City Beach, Florida. And a truly engaging woman who owns a coffee shop in Madison, Florida. As a result Springbreak-Part2-The-Interviews-Bob Davis Podcast 986 is a unique podcast for me. Different Approaches To Life Most importantly these interviews illustrate different approaches to life at different times in life. Something Real In short I’m looking for something real out here. No Small Talk I don’t want to engage in small talk, especially when it comes to interviews. Long Term Effects Of The Pandemic In the same vein I ask how today’s younger people feel the Pandemic might effect their lives in the future. Coffee House And I wonder how an internationally traveled and accomplished woman decides to run a great coffee house in a small town in the Florida Panhandle in addition to other demanding interests. I think the answer is truly enlightening. Unique Times Finally we are living in unique times. Huge Opportunities While there are challenges there are also huge opportunities if we have the right mindset. Florida! In conclusion I’ve always thought Florida is one of the best examples of this reality. The Sunshine State To sum up I’ve been coming down to the Sunshine State since I was a kid. Never Ceases To Surprise The People of Florida and those who come here here to change their lives, never cease to surprise me. Springbreak-Roadtrip-Part1-Blueridge-Mountains-Bob Davis Podcast 985
Springbreak Roadtrip Part1 First of all it’s time for a Springbreak Roadtrip and part 1 is Virginia through the Blueridge Mountains. Secondly long time listeners know I’ve been handling some personal business in Virginia for the last few weeks. Boy, is it time to get back on the road and we’ll do it in Springbreak-Roadtrip-Part1-Blueridge-Mountains. Heavy Energy Most importantly I find driving long distances is the best way to process heavy energy. Sunshine And Warmth On The Agenda Consequently I would have been happy with a trip to anywhere but I want sunshine and warmth. Florida! Therefore Florida it is. Panama City Beach Life When you consider Florida and spring break, certainly Panama City Beach and Pensacola come up. This part of the state is easy to get to on the Interstates. Back Roads However I am a back roads nomad. Get the full story in Springbreak-Roadtrip-Part1-Blueridge-Mountains-Bob Davis Podcast 985. Blue Ridge Switchbacks So my plan takes me through Southwestern Virginia through the Blue Ridge Mountains. Tennessee. North Carolina. Alabama. Mountain Roads In short, mountain roads. Detours. Two lane state and US Highways. Truck Stops. Walmart Parking lots and maybe some camping. Paths In Life Above all this gives me a chance to share some thoughts about why we choose certain paths in life. Choices In addition the idea that sometimes the universe or higher power, or God checks back with you to make sure you’re confident of the choices you’ve made. Are You Sure? That is to say, are you sure? Nomad Lifestyle For instance in my life, my commitment to the Nomad Lifestyle and what that means. Why? In the same vein, why do some of us choose this approach to life? Why do others choose another way. Steak Dinner Meanwhile there’s the road and a steak dinner at a truck stop! More Depth Finally I love travelogue podcasts however I think listeners deserve a little more depth from these podcasts. That’s one of the reasons I travel, and want to get out on the back roads. Connect To Bigger Ideas To sum up travel is the best way to see, learn and connect my experiences to bigger ideas. Virginia-Midnight-Walk-And-Talk-Bob Davis Podcast 984
Virginia Midnight Walk And Talk Podcast Above all it’s finally warming up in Virginia which makes it perfect for a midnight walk and talk podcast. Even more it’s been awhile since a free wheeling walk and talk. Listen to Virginia-Midnight-Walk-And-Talk-Bob Davis Podcast 984. Chomping At The Bit Firstly still stopped down in Virginia dealing with family matters. Secondly I am chomping at the bit to get going. Travel Means Full Engagement Certainly I’ve noticed that when I am on the road I am fully engaged. Up early. Bored Sitting Still Most importantly the longer I am stationary the more bored I get. Up Late Up late. Watching COPS on YouTube. Sleeping late. Nomad Thing Secondly it reminds me how fully committed I am to this ‘Nomad Thing’. Short Trip Ahead Meanwhile I plan a short trip to Florida in the coming weeks. Certainly just getting back on the road will make me feel better. Back To The Pacific Soon In the same vein I’m excited at the prospect of getting back to Quartzsite, Arizona to continue my wandering across California’s deserts and up the Pacific Coast. Questions But interesting questions have come up. Why Does The Universe Throw Us Curve Balls? Most importantly I’ve noticed when someone makes a decision to go ‘all in’ does the ‘universe’ throw curve balls every now and then just to test me? Here’s a Nice House For example I now have the opportunity to say here in a nice house if I want to. Essentially free. Don’t Take The Easy Way Out And people wonder, why wouldn’t you take a free house rather than driving around in that truck? Choose Adventure On the other hand I choose the adventure. Don’t want to take the easy way out. What Does The Heart Want? Finally I believe a firm choice in the direction my heart wants to go is the right choice. Follow Your Passion Moreover I think the ‘universe’ rewards those who follow their passion. Mine happens to be to move. Buh Bye House Therefore we’ll be selling the house. Nomad Adventure in Three, Two… In short it won’t be long before this great nomad adventure continues. Happiness For me happiness is a clean windshield and a full tank of fuel. Summer-Sounds-Winter-Relief-Bob Davis Podcast 983
Difficult Winter Calls For Summer Sounds Winter Relief Firstly we are having a difficult winter and a Summer Sounds Winter Relief is the perfect antidote. Therefore headphones on for Summer-Sounds-Winter-Relief-Bob Davis Podcast 983. No Talk Secondly and perhaps most importantly I don’t talk much in this podcast. Power Of Sound Above all one of the things I’ve learned is sound has a lot of power. Sounds Of Summer For example and maybe the best example, the sound of summer. Bugs and Storms Certainly summer is loud. Bugs. Storms. Lawnmowers. People driving by with their radios up and the windows down. Boats. And birds! Memory and Warmth Trigger Warning However it is those sounds that trigger the best memories. Winter Sucks Especially in the depths of a terrible winter. Deep Freeze For instance ice storms, deep sub zero temperatures and snow storms. Seemingly everywhere in this country! We Need Relief! Meanwhile we all need relief. Velvet Summer Sounds Welcome to the velvet sounds of summer in Summer-Sounds-Winter-Relief-Bob Davis Podcast 983. Headphones On In short put your headphones on and turn it up. Warm You Up To clarify if you are cold, this will warm you up. Got the winter blues? This podcast will ease your pain. Sound Does The Talking Finally I concluded the best thing to do is to shut up. Podcasts are a talker’s game. But sometimes the sound does the talking. Magnificent Midwestern Summer As a result I spent last summer recording the sound of a magnificent Midwestern Summer. Walk Through Summer To sum up, now all you have to do is put headphones on and walk through that incredible summer. Heat The heat. Storms. All the things we associate with summer you can hear in Summer-Sounds-Winter-Relief-Bob Davis Podcast 983. Sound Recording Geek In the same vein listeners to these podcasts know I get around. As a nomad I get to record sound from where ever I go. I often can be seen with headphones on pointing a microphone in the direction of some interesting sound. Meanwhile, others are enjoying whatever is going on. Experience In conclusion to some degree I experience life through headphones. Feel Better Truth is, it made me feel better just to produce this podcast. Summer’s Around The Corner Summer’s around the corner, or at the tip of your fingers…and headphones. Inside-Virginia-Ice-Storm-Bob Davis Podcast 982
Inside Virginia Ice Storm Firstly while most of the country struggles with winter weather I am inside a Virginia Ice Storm. Ever wonder what it sounds like? Hear it in Inside-Virginia-Ice-Storm-Bob Davis Podcast 982. Stories From The Road Secondly my rig Mobile Podcast Command has been through a lot. Time to share some stories as ice and branches fall all around me. My Rig Is A Character Too Above all my 2000 Ford Super Duty Ambulance is as a much a character in these podcasts as I am. All About The Rig In addition as a nomad I’ve learned it”s all about the rig. A Name And A Story And the rig has to have a name and a story. To hear the beginning click here. Sound Of An Ice Storm Most importantly as a Chicago native, I am fascinated with the sound of an ice storm. Winter As A Way Of Life Certainly Northern tier US States have more experience with winter weather. Therefore clearing roads during snowstorms or getting power back on during an ice storm can be a challenge in the South. Winter Not Part Of Virginia Lifestyle In short severe winter weather is not a regular thing here in Virginia. In fact spring usually arrives in some form at the end of February! Bitter Cold I‘m used to the bitter cold of Chicago and the Twin Cities. Mobile Podcast Command Loves Winter In the same vein Mobile Podcast Command did its service as an ambulance in Wisconsin. Desert Too On the other hand Mobile Podcast Command has been through the heat of the desert, sand storms on the beaches. I’ll tell some stories in Inside-Virginia-Ice-Storm-Bob Davis Podcast 982. Getting Stuck. Again. Even more, I have been stuck at a political event during Iowa’s primaries. And stuck on the beach in Texas. Through A Lot Together Finally we’ve been through heavy rains and wind on the west coast and heavy snows on Wyoming mountain roads together. Part Of The Adventure In conclusion if we nomads love our rigs, it’s because they are as big a part of the adventure as we are. When-Will-Dark-Times-End?-Bob Davis Podcast 981
When Will Dark Times End When Will Dark Times End? Most importantly there seems to be a lot of grief to go around these days. A friend asked me to do a podcast about the subject, Find out why in When-Will-Dark-Times-End?-Bob Davis Podcast 981. Loss Certainly I am dealing with a loss in my own life. Don’t Want To Talk About It Even more I don’t like talking about it. Many In Grieving However my friend said lots of other people are in the same position these days. Sharing To Help Moreover, he said, my experiences and thoughts might help. Don’t Want It To Be About Me I don’t want this to be about me. But many people are dealing with grief in these dark times. When Does Darkness End? Therefore When-Will-Dark-Times-End?-Bob Davis Podcast 981 wonders when the dark time will end. Any Loss Can Cause Grief Firstly death isn’t the only cause of grief and bereavement. For instance many of us can be deeply effected by the loss of an animal, a breakup or the loss of a job. Subtle And Long Lasting Effects And the effects of grief can be subtle and long lasting. Above all I don’t have any clinical experience in these matters. In fact I tend to be rather stoic in these situations. Travel Helps On the other hand I have traveled across the country most of this year and last. Darkness All Over America Consequently I can speak with authority on a general sense of what can only be called darkness that seems like it’s been with us forever. Tough Times To sum up it’s not inaccurate to suggest many are going through tough times. Secondly the cure for me is travel. Just hearing the tires on the highway makes me happy. Finally as my friend suggested, talking about it seems to help. Spring Is Coming Meanwhile the days are getting longer and spring is coming. Maybe the dark time will end soon for everyone. Vanlife-Nomad-Backlash-Bob Davis Podcast 980
VanLife Nomad Backlash Suddenly there’s a Vanlife Nomad Backlash. Certainly it’s fun to be free and living out on the road. What’s the problem? My reaction in Vanlife-Nomad-Backlash-Bob Davis Podcast 980. Full Commitment Firstly I’ve just recently made a full commitment to living on the road. Learn more about that here. Extended Travel Secondly extended travel has been a part of these podcasts since the beginning. Social Media…Again However recently some have taken issue with some over the top social media accounts. Hollywood Has Discovered The Modern Nomad To clarify reporters and Hollywood have suddenly discovered the nomad trend. Blame It On Instagram As a result it seems like detractors want to attack the whole lifestyle as ‘fake’ because of a few over the top Instagram accounts. Not For Everyone Meanwhile my experience has been it’s not a lifestyle for everyone. Demanding And Tough In fact the nomad lifestyle can be demanding and tough but be very rewarding at the same time. Nomad Life Is Hardscrabble In the same vein I haven’t met too many nomads driving around in vehicles costing at least six figures. The Majesty Of A Walmart Parking Lot For example a nomad might experience the majesty of a campground in a national forest one week. And the majesty of a Walmart or Truck Stop lot the next. Adventure and Fun To sum up it’s not always glamorous. But it’s always an adventure. Back Out On The Back Road Most importantly while I am stuck in a driveway in Virginia as we deal with a death in the family I can’t wait to get back on the back road. Real Experience In Vanlife-Nomad-Backlash-Bob Davis Podcast 980 it’s time to talk about the real experiences I have had as a newly minted ‘nomad’. And most importantly the depth of those experiences. Family and Friends Even more I realize many nomads are interrupting trips with long stays with family and friends. Why? Because we can. So What? On the other hand. Who can blame us? Shore Power and A Hot Shower After months of taking showers in truck stops and cooking over campfires, shore power and a hot shower at ‘home’ are pure luxury. All About The Vibe Most importantly is the reality of a true positive vibe that comes from travel in any form. Doesn’t Matter What Rig You Have Whether you’re rig is a broken down conversion or a Prevost, you’ve experienced that vibe. No Commitments Finally, think about travel without commitments. And going where you want. Just plain fun. Many People Hitting The Road In conclusion it’s true there are many people hitting the road for various reasons. As a result the nomad lifestyle and Vanlife have become a trend. Tear Down Something Just Because Lots Of People Are Doing It Why is it necessary to attack and tear something down just because a lot of people are doing it? Future-Dreams-After-Covid-Bob Davis Podcast 979
Future Dreams After Covid Firstly it’s time to talk about our future dreams after Covid. We’ll do that in Future-Dreams-After-Covid-Bob Davis Podcast 979. Live From The Driveway Secondly I am podcasting live from my mom’s driveway in Virginia for the time being. Learn why by listening here. Dark Time Most importantly we’re living through a dark time. I don’t think anyone disagrees with that statement. Brittle and Emotional In addition the way we talk to each other is often brittle and emotional. Collaboration and Rationality On the other hand we’ll need to communicate in a more collaborative and rational style in the future. Social Media Sucks Certainly social media emphasizes stark differences. Remember When Optimism Drove Us? On the other hand after the Spanish Flu, optimism and enthusiasm drove the country. Positive About The Future Finally I’ve had a lot of support from friends and business contacts recently. As a result I feel more positive about the future. Tech Stepped Up Moreover technology really helped us during the Corona Pandemic. How Has Work Evolved In conclusion we need to ask how, where and when our work has evolved positively. Networking and Working For A Nomad For example remote work for my tribe of nomads. In addition small towns are seeing growth as people move from large population centers. Why? Because they can. Tired Of Negativity To sum up I am tired of down in the mouth, nasty, brittle and angry. No More Fighting Over The Past In short fighting over the past does nothing for me. All About The Future It’s all about the future now. I think we need new ways of communicating and thinking to create a future that works. In contrast I don’t think the old ways of thinking and communicating serve anyone anymore. Nomad-Uses-Downtime-Bob Davis Podcast 978
Firstly how a nomad uses downtime is key. Most importantly a family emergency has pulled me off the road for the short term. Learn how I plan to use the time in Nomad-Uses-Downtime-Bob Davis Podcast 978. Secondly truth be told; I am already hearing the highway song. On the other hand I am finding some valuable uses for this time. Certainly I am never restless on the road. And I was surprised to find myself sleeping more deeply no matter where I stopped for the night. To clarify I’ll just say there is a beautiful simplicity to being a nomad. I am never bored and I welcome each day’s brand new challenge. On the other hand now that I am ‘static’ the challenge is how not to go stir crazy. Therefore Nomad-Uses-Downtime-Bob Davis Podcast 978 is about using this time to take care of my family. Even more to plan and prepare for when the adventure begins anew! As the result of this experience I really believe now that travel raises our consciousness significantly. There are interesting ties to near death experiences I talk about in this podcast. Consequently I have been able to produce yet another podcast that doesn’t ruin the great travel vibe with political chatter. Nothing makes me happier. In short while these are difficult times the nomad in me remains optimistic and excited about returning to the back roads again. In conclusion while nomads have enough trouble defending their lifestyle to relatives, there’s a powerful urge to plan, prepare, repair and revive. My mom wouldn’t have it any other way. Rolling-With-The-Changes-Bob Davis Podcast 977
Rolling With The Changes Firstly there’s a lot of change and we’re rolling with the changes. Especially when there is a family emergency. Learn more in Rolling-With-The-Changes-Bob Davis Podcast 977. Abrupt Change Happens In Everyone’s Life Secondly abrupt and surprising developments visit everyone sooner or later. Flexibility Is Called For Most importantly you have to be flexible enough to deal with abrupt change, even when you’re nomad. Not Easy Certainly I was having a great time. From Minnesota to the Gulf Coast, across the desert to Southwestern Arizona. Plans Shift and Things Change Even more, I had plans to head further west to an big off road race in Johnson County, California. Things Happen But things happen, as they say. Whatever It Takes Above all when your family is in crisis you have to do whatever you can. Nomad Travel Rewind In my case that required me to rewind all my travels in just a few days. Interstate Driving Subsequently I drove East on the I-10 to I-17 North, to 40 East all the way from Arizona to Virginia, and then I-85 North to the Richmond area. All A Blur As a result there were a lot of truck stop stays which I don’t remember. In addition a number of sights that were a blur, like the Cadillac Ranch. Marathon Trek In fact I didn’t even think to record anything for this podcast in Mobile Podcast while making that marathon trek. Massive Change Finally the point here is that we’re going through massive change. Some will applaud the changes. Others will not. Flexible Enough To Roll With The Changes Likewise as I have pointed out in many recent podcasts, during periods of intense change and challenge, one has to be able to roll with the changes. To sum up, flexibility is required. Attached To Outcomes? For example right now I am dealing with a number of strong and independent personalities, myself included. Being rigid and attached to a certain outcome doesn’t really help in this environment. I’ll explain in Rolling-With-The-Changes-Bob Davis Podcast 977. Listen And Learn More In conclusion clearly there’s something going on here. You’ll have to listen to find out. Quartzsite-Arizona-Live-Bob Davis Podcast 976
Quartzsite Live! Most importantly I am in Quartzsite Arizona Live for the biggest RV show of the year. But I arrived here a week early! Join me for a Quartzsite primer in Quartzsite-Arizona-Live-Bob Davis Podcast 976. Crazy Stories Firstly I have heard this story differently before. Secondly the truth is even more bizarre. Camels and Quartzsite To clarify Camels and Quartzsite go back to 1850 and then Secretary of War Jefferson Davis. Desert Terrain Above all Davis had the bright idea of using camels to transport people across the rocky desert terrain out here. Click here for at least some the details. Modern Day Outlaws Too Even more Quartzsite figures into the story of violent outlaw Gary Tisen. Here’s a link to the 2017 movie. Meanwhile as I sit here in the desert in front of a fire every night I am reminded that every place seems to have its own history. What Makes Travel Great Certainly discovering unique stories of the past and regional differences are what make travel so great. RV Culture Further I can’t wait to get into the RV culture and look for some Mobile Podcast Command creature comforts. Nomad Travel Vehicles Too In the same vein there are many different people and unique types of nomad travel vehicles here. Staying In The Desert Finally thanks to my friend Neil Seven I’ll be headed west to the California desert for the most bizarre and intense off road race in the country. Lots of other RV people and nomads headed that way as well. Road School Is Damn Good Therapy In conclusion call it wandering, being a nomad or just road school. This Nomad Avoids National Insanity Firstly listen to Nomad-Avoids-National-Insanity-Bob Davis Podcast 975. And to my New Years Podcast here. Peace In Campground Secondly I have new respect for nomads and travelers who seek the peace of the campground. New Year New Themes Above all this podcast continues some of the themes of my new years podcast. It’s Not Over I don’t think the craziness is over, for example. And we’re not going to resolve our differences anytime soon. Hit The Road As a result I have gone on the road. Permanently. Not Touching Nomads In short most of the things that are driving people crazy right now aren’t touching me. A Fire And A Sunset Is A Good Cure In the same vein sitting by a fire and watching the sunset will cure almost any neurosis! Back In The Day For example a few years ago I would have been all over the mess in the US Capitol this week. No more. Political Talk Is Bad Energy To clarify many of my new listeners and subscribers don’t want the bad energy political talk brings. Sick To Death Of It All Even more many of my long term people are just sick to death of the whole thing. I don’t blame them. Coffee, Fire and Sunset Moreover when I put the sunset, coffee and fire together, who cares? Welcome To The Epoch Of Upheaval Finally I would be a fool to deny we’re living through a significant period of upheaval. No Triggers But if you allow yourself to be triggered by every event you’re going to have a tough time. Let Outcomes Go For Now In addition it’s not a good idea to attach our attention to outcomes. Stay Flexible Most importantly we have to stay flexible. Change and Challenge Ahead That is to say even more change and challenge is ahead. Pace yourselves. The Wilderness Helps Meanwhile getting out in the wilderness anywhere can’t hurt. Happy-Nomad-New-Year-Bob Davis Podcast 974
Certainly we can all agree this New Year is a Happy Nomad New Year. In addition saying goodbye to 2020 and heralding 2021’s arrival takes a different tone. Join me from Organ Pipe National Monument for Happy-Nomad-New-Year-Bob Davis Podcast 974. Most importantly if you’d told me last year at this time I’d be on the road permanently in a twenty year old ambulance I wouldn’t have believed it. But here I am! Firstly this moment calls for a more sedate and perhaps philosophical tone. Secondly I’m down here in Arizona at a campground. There’s not a lot of social interplay going on. Meanwhile I am live from Organ Pipe National Monument. Local Arizonans told me this used to be the most dangerous park of all. Well, the Ambassador explained the origins of that moniker. I’ll fill you in during Happy-Nomad-New-Year-Bob Davis Podcast 974. On the other hand there’s a lot to think about this New Year’s. Most importantly a blanket ‘thank you’ to clients and supporters of the podcast, especially since I started traveling full time. But there’s also the undeniable feeling we’re living through one of those epochal changes. Therefore a new time line. Even more, new ways of thinking. To sum up it feels like heavy attachment to any one thing, or way of thinking, makes this journey even more difficult. In the same vein this has been a theme in my podcasts for a while now. For example the shift away from political talk to travel and other topics. I’ll explain how fresh and freeing it feels to me not to discuss topics that won’t win anyone over and will do nothing but divide listeners and subscribers more than they already are. However I don’t let go of those subjects lightly. In short I am not a light talker or thinker. And despite all the talk of 2021 having to be ‘amazing’ just because 2020 was ‘so bad’ seems a little silly to me. Certainly I hope things get better but there are no guarantees. Truth is it could get worse. We just don’t know. Meanwhile the park is settling down. People are starting their fires. Kids being called back. Hikers are back from the trail. In conclusion given the fact that there won’t be any big celebrations as it previous years, hanging here at a National Park inside Mobile Podcast Command, seems like a great idea. Finally, happy New Year. Nomad-Meetup-New-Mexico-Bob Davis Podcast 973
Firstly holiday season means many avoid travel restrictions with a road trip so it’s a perfect time for a nomad meetup and New Mexico is the place. Join us for Nomad-Meetup-New-Mexico-Bob Davis Podcast 973. Secondly Las Cruces New Mexico turned out to be the perfect place. Most importantly I’m doing the nomad thing and my friend Don Anger is doing a variation of the nomad thing. Don works in the oil fields in Midland, Texas and lives in Case Grande, Arizona. Even more my old radio buddy works two weeks on, and gets a week off. Certainly like a lot of other workers these days no one’s taking any risks. Therefore Don is not alone migrating from the job, down the I-10 and back again at least twice a month. On the other hand I am thoroughly loving the whole nomad experience. Having spent the last week or so in New Mexico, it was easy for me to head to Las Cruces. Therefore my friend and I could meetup in Mobile Podcast Command for some coffee, and conversation. As a result we got to share stories of the road and life’s challenges. Above all how do we deal with issues like where we park at truck stops or Walmart parking lots. What about showers. Food. Do we travel at night or during the day? In addition why do guys do what we do? For Don it’s about feeding a family and doing what has to be done. But for me it’s about the open road and pure freedom. Most importantly in this time lots of people are on the road. Whether they’re working in one city and commuting to another or hitting the road in the same vein as I am, it doesn’t matter. Finally even though it seems foreign, strange or even scary to some…It’s home to us. To sum up we both get a lot of questions about life on the road. Time for a freewheeling conversation with two road warriors about what it’s like, why we do it and why we love it. Truck Stop Nomad Radio Most importantly welcome to Truck Stop Nomad Radio! Spending a lot of time in truck stops these days. Getting some good shots of the ruins of twentieth century America out here in the South West. Learn more in Truck-Stop-Nomad-Radio-Bob Davis Podcast 972. Suggestions and Support For Nomad Life Certainly I get a lot of suggestions. And I welcome the support and interest in this nomad life effort. Recent Suggestions Firstly, one of recent suggestion was, get a camera in the truck. Just turn it on and record. That would be my ‘video’ channel. I appreciate the fact that people want to help and participate. Secondly it just doesn’t work that way for me. Nomad Life Is An Internal Process For instance my experience is this is very much an internal process. I never knew how much noise my brain made until I decided to hit the road. Alone. True Freedom Even more once you give away everything you own and release the connection to place the potential to experience true freedom is there. Your Mind Makes Noise However the mind resists. Makes noise. Produces various reactions. New Understanding But until I hit the road permanently I never really fully understood. Intensely Personal Experiences In the same vein these are intensely personal experiences. Personal Memories Too As a result the memories are also personal. Although I work in the audio medium it’s very difficult to relate those internal processes, let alone produce videos about it. A Challenging Time Finally we’re living through a challenging time. I don’t feel it as much because I am mobile. But it’s there. Planetary Conjunction Above all on a date which marks the ending of the darkness and the beginning of the light, and a planetary conjunction to boot, I have some observations about that too! Sights Smells Feelings To sum up nomad life for me has been a jumbled collection of visual memories. Sights. Smells. Feelings. Covering A Lot Of Ground From Minnesota all the way through the middle of the country and deep south, to the deserts of the American Southwest. Only Just Started In short like life itself I’ve covered a lot of ground but it feels like I’ve only just started. From Brownsville to Laredo and Points West Meanwhile I am transitioning from the Gulf Coast Beach Life to the drier desert air. From Brownsville to a place called Carrizo Springs, Texas. Way out here in the middle of nowhere. But we’re somewhere, right? Borders, Walmart, Campgrounds and Motels Even more you get an answer to questions like how close am I to the border? Is it true I got kicked out of a Walmart Parking Lot? When you’re just out there do you stay at campgrounds and motels? Checkpoint Charlie After that we get to go through a Border Patrol checkpoint. You have no choice. You have to go through it. Makes mask mandates look tame. Stop? A friend asked me yesterday why I was driving so much. Why not stop in these little places? The Open Road To sum up once I head west I crave the open road. Full Days Certainly my days are full. Travel. Work. Fueling. Stopping. Cleaning. Constantly. Gulfcoast-Winter-BeachLife-Bob Davis Podcast 970
Gulfcoast Winter Beach Life Most important Gulfcoast Winter BeachLife can get cold. But it’s still a lot better than winter in Minnesota. Learn more in Gulfcoast-Winter-BeachLife-Bob Davis Podcast 970. Redneck Riviera Firstly I’ve been cruising the Gulf Coast. Florida, Alabama, Mississippi, Louisiana and now Texas. Better known as ‘The Redneck Riviera’. Changing Weather And Time Zones Secondly I’ve passed through warm and cold weather. Spent some cold nights on the beach. Hurricane Damage Even more there’s a lot of hurricane damage down here. A lot. A Lot To Like On The Gulfcoast However there is a lot to like about some of the beaches and beach towns along the way. Port Aransas, Texas For example my favorite Texas beach down is Port Aransas. I’m camped out on a beautiful beach. When I did Gulfcoast-Winter-BeachLife-Bob Davis Podcast 970, it was in the 80’s and sunny. Sand Storm On The Beach On the other hand that night there was a lot of wind. There were sand drifts around Mobile Podcast Command in the morning and it got pretty good. Getting Stuck At Matagorda In the same vein, I got stuck on another one of my favorite beaches but managed to get myself unstuck. Never The Same In short no no single beach remains the same from one visit to the next. Taking My Time Above all the biggest challenge I still face is taking my time. Hundreds Of Miles Certainly I am capable of driving hundreds of miles a day. I’ve done it before. Nomad Experience On the other hand hundreds of miles a day is not really what the nomad experience is all about. No Going ‘Home’ For instance I don’t have to ‘go home’. No Hurry Moreover while I have a loose schedule there’s no hurry. Lessons Just Keep Coming In conclusion the life lessons just keep coming in this effort. Join me on the beach to talk about the experience so far and hear the next objectives in Gulfcoast-Winter-BeachLife-Bob Davis Podcast 970.
