The Birth Library

4 Episodes

55 minutes | Aug 14, 2018
Session Four: Emily
During this session The Birth Library chats with Emily. Emily and Brett had been trying to conceive for over a year when they found out they were pregnant. Emily felt healthy and beautiful throughout her pregnancy. She found out she had gestational diabetes, which was treated with oral medication. An induction was scheduled for 39 weeks. Zoe was delivered vaginally after a long labour. Emily had issues with her milk supply and talks about her incredible journey of acceptance that things don't always go the way we plan - and knowing that it's okay. As mothers we do so much readjusting of expectations that we have put on ourselves and I think that Emily's story mirrors this notion perfectly. Her determination is inspiring! Session Three: Amber
During this session, I chat with Amber. Amber had a beautiful pregnancy with her son Remy. She found out Remy was in breech position at 34 weeks and had a successful ECV at 37 weeks. Amber had a water vaginal birth in Newcastle at the John Hunter Hospital. Amber chats really openly about her struggles with breastfeeding and the way in which she tapped into her intuition to overcome these issues without intervention. This is a touching depiction of the fine line of vulnerability and empowerment, which we can all walk as new mothers.

Session Two: Kat
During this session, I talk with Kat. It was a massive surprise for Kat and her partner to find out they were pregnant. Kat felt wonderful throughout her pregnancy. She was induced at Lismore Hospital and had an empowering and positive induction experience. She felt supported and had a voice surrounding the choices that were made during her labour. Kat also discusses her navigation of postnatal depletion. Music: www.bensound.com

Session One: Bliss
During this session, I speak with Bliss. She had a vaginal birth at the Royal Hospital for Women in Sydney. She attended the Calm Birth course and found it to be an excellent tool in understanding and approaching labour. I really loved speaking with Bliss, she gave such beautifully vivid detail about her labour and was so open and transparent about her feelings surrounding her initial postpartum period and struggles with breastfeeding.
