EP 26 Ocean Sounds with Christie Pratt
You know those ocean sounds you listen to when you want to relax, meditate, or fall asleep? Have you ever wondered where those sounds were recorded? Well, Christie Pratt did - and she turned that thought into a podcast that she calls Journey of Relaxation where she just hopped in her car, drove to the Atlantic coast and started recording Ocean sounds! She began her journey at a beach on the coast of Maine and from there she started traveling south stopping at different beaches along the way to record the Ocean sounds. When I heard about what she was doing, I thought it would be a really interesting topic to explore - and one you might be interested in, too.If you want to hear the unique sounds of each beach stop along Christie’s ocean sounds journey, check out her podcast Journey of Relaxation on your favorite podcast app.Follow Journey of Relaxation:https://www.journeyofrelaxation.com/Twitter: https://twitter.com/JourneyofRInstagram: @journeyofrelaxationFacebook: Journey of Relaxation - HomeBuy Christie a Coffee! https://www.buymeacoffee.com/journeyofrelax

EP 20 From the Beach to Shark Tank with Terri Bacheller, founder of "My Beach Tree"
Have you ever had the inspiration to create an amazing product - one that could simplify your life? It's so simple that you're certain someone must have already come up with the idea. Then - surprise, surprise! - you discover it doesn’t exist! What would you do? That’s exactly what my guest Terri Bacheller, a busy mom with a servant’s heart, was asking herself while at the beach one afternoon, trying to enjoy herself AND keep all the kids “stuff” all in one place. You know the scene: the kids racing to the water, leaving a trail of wet towels and assorted beach gear in their wake.Wouldn’t it be great if you had some thing to keep all that stuff together? That, dear Beach Lovers, is where Terri’s journey to create the “My Beach Tree” began. It’s been quite a journey - from market research and development, to auditioning for Shark Tank (a big part of the story) to fundraising . . .All with the mission to create a product that would SIMPLIFY LIFE so you can STRESS LESS and ENJOY MORE! EP 19 Intuitive Leadership with a Side of Yoga: A Journey of Self Discovery with Jenn Shepherd
Hey Beach Lovers, was there ever a time when you were just sailing through life and career – you’ve mapped out your course, and have it all figured out - everything is “beachy.” It wasn’t always easy- you had to work hard - and there was some stress, but, you’re an “achiever” – you’re used to some rough surf. You can handle it. Then. . .a series of waves come along that knock you off course – each one taking you a little farther away from where you thought you’d be.Until, out of the depths of life’s ocean, the BIG ONE hits and it’s one of those waves that completely pulls you under and then washes you up on the shore. You can’t even think straight, your map is gone, and your body and your brain hurts - I mean, really hurts. What do you do then? In this episode, you’ll get to hear my guest, Jenn Shepherd, tell her story – of facing that giant wave, and having to make a complete life pivot: guided by her intuition, the principles of yoga and, of course, the healing power of the Beach. So, let’s settle into our beach chairs, bask in the warm sun and ocean breeze and listen as Jenn tells us her tale about leadership, intuition, travel, yoga, waterfalls and. . .I’ll let her tell the rest. EP 16 A Gen-Z's Perspective: Kristen Gmerek of Remember the Sunfowers
Hey Beach Lovers!Life is crazy right now – and not “crazy good” as I like to say. It's the kind that completely uproots everything you know and turns it inside out kind of crazy. It's like a movie with wayyyy too many plot twists. As if a pandemic and complete economic nightmare wasn’t enough, throw in an earthquake or two, some giant murder hornets (what the what?) and now, unspeakable murders by the police, peaceful citizen protests threatened with tear gas and military force, and Bible brandishing (ok, that was just strange). But you know what? The Beach says: "It’s gonna be OK. We’re gonna be OK." I have to admit though, sometimes the Beach speaks, and I’m not so sure I like the message. That's what my guest Kristen Gmerek and I were talking about, recently. She's a beach girl, too – feeling "all the feels" associated with the tides. As we were half lamenting and half laughing about the messages we were receiving, I said, “You know, this is good – let’s record it! And so we did. EP 15 New Age Hippy With Sheri Nicholson
A few months ago Sheri and I met atop the Casa Marina Hotel - an iconic Jacksonville Beach venue overlooking the Ocean.I wanted her input about some about projects and events I wanted to create, because, if you have an idea, Sheri knows the who, what, where and how to make it happen. As we talked about conscious community, taking care of our fellow human beings and the planet, and where I wanted to take The Beach Speaks going forward, I knew she would be the perfect guest for this re-launch of the podcast. Then, along came a virus. . .While my primary intent was to talk about conscious community during a pandemic, we let the conversation flow and ended up talking about a variety of subjects:- What it was like growing up at the beach- The importance of paying yourself if you’re a stay-at home mom- Finding balance and happiness in the times when you feel most uncomfortable- Why it's ok to feel sore after doing Tai Chi- Vision boarding- The importance of creating a sustainable and simple lifestyle Like Sheri says: “Happy Healthy Planet, Happy Healthy Life”I hope you like this episode with the New Age Hippy herself: Sheri Nicholson To find out more about all the New Age Hippy events and offerings go to: https://newagehippy.com/ If you want to help support and fund our local Health & Wellness Professionals who are out of work right now due to Social and Physical Distancing, click on the Locals on A Mission tab on their home page and donate. Ep 13 Nada Frazier: an End-of-Life Doula
Hey Beach lovers! it’s mid December here - just a few weeks before Christmas, and then we’ll be ushering in a New Year – a new decade!! So, in the middle of all the holiday hustle, why don’t you and I take a break and talk about DEATH. I know, I know, this sounds like a morbid subject and why would anyone want to talk about DEATH? Especially during the holidays!Trust me, I wasn’t too sure about this myself; however, after talking with Nada Frazier, a Death Doula (yes, there is such a thing) I realized this is a conversation we need to be having - especially since this is the time of year when we’re focused on family and friends, and thinking about how we want to live our best life going forward into the New Year.As strange as it might seem, living our best life includes talking about and preparing for. . .our death. In this episode, Nada and I talk about:The stigma around death and how we define it, our fears about the end of life and our reluctance to talk about it, our personal end of life stories and how to prepare for and have a conversation around end of life issues. Nada explains what a Death Doula does - and doesn’t do - and helps re-frame the idea that preparing for our death isn’t something to be afraid of. . .It’s one of the greatest gifts we can give our loved ones. About Nada Frazier:Nada is a non-denominational ordained minister and has served as Spiritual Leader of Unity of Jacksonville Beach (www.unityofjacksonvillebeach) since 2015. She is a sacred servant, inspirational speaker, writer, award winning photographer, reiki master teacher, and hospice spiritual care volunteer. Nada founded and continues to facilitate "Sundays 8 @ 8" prayer circle where each Sunday at 8 p.m. for 8 minutes, people from across the globe quietly step away from their usual activities to come together in prayer. She is also the founder of The Sacred Servant (www.thesacredservant.com) where she serves as an End-of-Life Doula, Guide, Mentor, Trainer, Consultant and Community Educator.Nada is a Certified End-of-Life Doula, Advanced Mentorship, through Quality of Life Care and serves as a Board Member of the National End-of-Life Doula Alliance (NEDA) (www.NEDAlliance.com) and Chair of NEDA’s Newsletter Committee. Ep 12 Owyn Porter on The Happy Sea
My guest today is Owyn Porter, of The Happy Sea, A FEEL GOOD, TROPICAL BRAND MEANT FOR THE OCEAN LOVING, ADVENTURE SEEKING, BAREFOOT RUNNING WANDERERS. In actuality, The Happy Sea is not just a brand – it’s a lifestyle. And it all started on a complete whim by Owyn and her mother Laurie Moffitt in the little town of Fernandina Beach, Florida.Owyn has always loved the ocean. Her first word as a baby was "beach." By the time she was 4 years old she was determined that when she grew up she would be a marine biologist and study the whales. Years later with the same determination she had at 4 years old, she enrolled at Florida Atlantic University and discovered by the end of her freshman year that Marine Biology was not going to work out. Let’s just say, Math and Chemistry were not her forte. After numerous hours crying hysterically on the phone with her mother, trying to figure out what to do, Owyn decided to change her major to Art and in 2015 – at the ripe age of 19 - The Happy Sea was created. It started out as a selection of greeting cards, then within a few short months it grew into apparel and the ever popular- stickers. All the designs are Owyn’s creation, and sustainability is a key pillar of the brand. All the products are made in the USA, produced as green as possible, and the paper she uses is FSC certified meaning that for every tree used, another one is planted in its place. And. . .best of all, The Happy Sea donates a portion of all the proceeds to ocean conservation non profits such as Orca Conservancy and Sea to Shore. This was Owyn’s first time as a podcast guest and. . . the first Millennial I’ve had on the show! You’re going to love her story, and what her generation is doing to create conscious community. In this episode, The Happy Sea is speaking, and The Beach Speaks is listening.

Ep11 Ramona Crabtree-Falkner on Conscious Collaboration
Hey Beach Lovers - my conscious community peeps! I just wanted to let you know that I’m so grateful for you! Even though I could sit in front of a microphone and record conversations All. Day. Long. it just doesn’t work if there’s no one there to listen!Friends, this is more than just me talking and you listening. It’s a collaboration. That’s why I asked my dear friend Ramona, founder of Authentic Life Journey, to share with you today - because, we’re all about collaboration - conscious collaboration - to be specific. What is conscious collaboration and why does it matter? When you hear Ramona’s story, I think you’ll figure it out; and you’ll understand why we believe conscious collaboration is invaluable…If you want to make YOUR VISION a reality.Authentic Life Journey (ALJ) was created by Ramona Crabtree-Falkner who began her wellness career with massage therapy, but this was simply a gateway to a deeper understanding of how to help others. As a massage therapist for 15 years she found a desire to explore other modalities to hold space for her clients to find more ease and healing from within. Through her own struggles with health and stress induced chronic pain she turned to yoga, meditation, energy work and life coaching to connect to her own healing and found through each of these explorations more ease and peace in life.Finding these practices to be of great benefit to her life with a strong vision to help others, Ramona developed the Authentic Life Journey programs and has now found a path that truly speaks to her truths of wanting to help others grow, heal and find ease and peace.Authentic Life Journey offers Group Life Coaching, Private Life Coaching, 200 Hour Yoga Teacher Training, Group Yoga, Private Yoga, Reiki, Crystal Bowls Meditations, Workshops and Retreats. Your experience with the Authentic Life Journey Team will leave you feeling peaceful and open to the journey that is life! Visit www.authenticlifejourney.com for more information on all things ALJ!

Ep10 Kristin Keen on Rethreaded
What do Mother Theresa, sex trafficking and Southwest Airlines have in common? Well, in this conversation with Kristin Keen, founder of Rethreaded, you’re about to find out.I discovered Rethreaded a year ago at a “Local Influencers” pop-up closet event – kind of like a yard sale – but in a beautifully lit hotel ballroom, complete with champagne and delicate hors d’oeuvres. It was a place to see and be seen. While I was browsing through racks of “gently used” trendy clothes (beautiful, but nothing that I would wear) I noticed a small display tucked away in the corner of the ballroom: simple yet brightly colored infinity scarves made from discarded t-shirts and handmade leather bracelets crafted from airplane seat covers. Yeah, this was something more my style, and when I heard they were all created and sold by survivors of sex trafficking - wow - I couldn’t open my wallet fast enough! As the woman at the booth - a survivor herself - proudly wrapped my purchase in a brown paper gift bag, she told me how, Rethreaded transforms women who basically feel like a useless and discarded piece of clothing into empowered women of worth. You know how I love stories, and how eager I am to share – however, I’ll let Kristin tell us this one. Rethreaded exists to renew hope, reignite dreams and release potential for survivors of human trafficking through business. It’s a story of purpose, empowerment and healing, and it’s really good one. . .For more information and how you can help, check out their website:www.rethreaded.com

Ep 9 Margaret Parnell and Amy McLaughlin on Mental Health and the Role of Telepsychiatry
We have a problem - a big problem - and let’s face it, we’re at a point where we have to talk. Because, it’s getting personal. . .And what affects one of us, affects us all. It’s time that we have a talk about awareness of and access to mental healthcare.Rather than trying to wrap my brain cells around this subject all on my own, I needed professional advice - someone who is on the front lines, caring for our mental health every day.So, I called on the two most experienced and compassionate mental health practitioners I know, Margaret Parnell and Amy McLaughlin, to shed some light on the status of mental health care, from their point of view, and inform me about a treatment alternative that is becoming increasingly popular: Telepsychiatry.“There’s not enough services now, and it’s about to get worse,” says Margaret. “In the next 6 years 50% of psychiatrists are set to retire. . .and there’s not enough going into psychiatry right now to replace them. . .so one of the really important things about Telepsychiatry, in general, is being able to provide services more broadly to more people.”In today’s episode, Margaret, Amy and I explore:What a healthy community looks likeHow and why they chose a profession in psychiatric servicesThe current state of mental health careNew forms of treatment that make getting the care we need affordable and accessible.Because, let’s face it - we could ALL use a little help once in a while. Ep 7 Gaya Kouba on Stress, Addiction and Healing with Mindfulness
This is a story of a successful young actor named Gaya Kouba, living in Los Angeles: Thriving (or so she thought) while severely sleep deprivedSuccessful in her craft, while innocently developing a serious addiction Driven by a naturally energetic mind and a “work hard no matter what” ethos, while getting closer and closer to a life threatening crashThat was a decade ago – what about now? I first met Gaya (now a corporate HR professional) a little over a year ago at our Toastmasters Club in Orlando. Then, I moved to the beach. And, not too long after, she ended up moving to the beach, too. When she reached out to me about telling her story on the podcast, I knew it was meant to be:Her story resonated with me on every level – work stress, addiction/recovery, mental health AND the desperate search for something, anything, for relief. Perhaps YOU are facing similar issues – and if not , I bet you know someone who is. Even if you recognize there’s is a problem, you probably talking about it publicly - but Gaya is. She looks for every opportunity to tell her story.Because, by telling our story, not only do we help others heal,We heal ourselves.
