This is our final episode of Season 2!! I just want to say thank you all so much for rocking with us through seasons 1 & 2 of The Artivists’ Room! We have come such a long way, and it has been such a pleasure and honor to explore the stories, artwork, activism and advocacy of the amazing artists we’ve featured in the room. Season 3 will be dropping in March 2022, so set your reminders, and get prepared because we have new stories, new artists, and so much more lined up for Season 3! Today we’ll be talking with the Chicago-based multidisciplinary artist and cultural organizer, Rebel Betty. Her work centers on the preservation of culture in Black and brown communities through facilitated dialogue, poetry, music, education, and the arts. The visual art she creates makes use of historical archives and contemporary photography to create impactful multimedia collages and videos that speak truth to power and document the power and beauty of Black, Brown, and Indigenous communities. Themes in Rebel's work include gentrification, decolonization, and honoring Black and Indigenous struggles for liberation and healing through connection to the past. today we’ll be talking with Mo Harper-Desir an arts activist, working in Eureka, CA striving to connect communities of Black folks in her county. As an artist Mo actively creates using Hip-Hop, Hip Hop theater, Dance and Poetry. Now in April 2018 Mo and partner Dionna co-founded Black Humboldt, as a response to Humboldt County's social climate, injustices, and lack of safe Black spaces. They wanted to provide a platform for all black and brown folks who shared similar needs and interests while existing in Humboldt. What started as a social media platform expanded into a hub for the creation of events, workshops, and forums for their community. Black Humboldt provides a space where people can see a positive and beautiful reflection of themselves. Today we’ll be talking with U.K.-based Art Blogger Chard Adio, most notably known by his art blog, Memoirs by Chard. His work centers the artist and focuses largely around showing folks that art is for everyone, pushing everyone to push past the Basquiat's of the world and take notice of the artists coming up right now. Before he started his blog officially, he was in school majoring in chemical engineering and trying to find a space for his creativity outside of school. He started snapping photos of the artists closest to him, and it was the folks in his community that encouraged him to take his work to another level. Fast forward to today where he has cultivated relationships with artists across the globe and has been able to cultivate a following that gives folks the opportunity to learn about artists they wouldn’t come across otherwise. He’s opening the door for others to find their lane, and space their stories and is currently working on the third volume of his memoirs.
