Survival Archetypes Part 2
Episode sponsor: Get your first 5 minute reading for only $5 with Keen so click or tap this link to get started  https://trykeen.com/archetypal   The core survival archetypes are:  The Child, The Victim, The Saboteur and The Prostitute.    Part 1 covered The Child & The Victim  and in this episode we cover The Saboteur and The Prostitute.     For a cinematic deep dive into all of the survival archetypes using the film The Way, check out this downloadable course from Julienne’s mentor, Jim Curtan. The Way: A Journey of Healing & Self Acceptance https://gum.co/theway  Use the promo code: rona  for 20% off purchase.   The world seems to be turned upside down, and many of us long for a simple answer to complicated problems.  This two part series discusses 4 archetypes universal to everyone that form the core patterns of survival.    Each of these patterns can give us a place to stand amidst the chaos.  If we are open to observing what archetypal patterns are emerging for us we can better navigate our lives and interact positively for ourselves and our community.    First off, what is an archetype?    Archetypes are universal patterns of talents, motivations and behaviors. They contain a dialogue of how and why we use our energy the way we do. Archetypal patterns are a way to learn about the truth and possibilities of our lives.   Every character archetype has an empowered or light side as well as a disempowered or shadow side.    Archetypes are both universal and personal.   More at Julienne’s website: https://archetypist.com/   The Saboteur Corollary or attendant archetypes:  Magician, Alchemist   The Head Mind & Thought Choice, Truth, Self-Esteem Element:  Air   The Saboteur is often the Inner Critic with a running dialogue that picks things to pieces (hence the sabotaging…).  It’s the part of us that has a tendency to be logical (empowered) and over-thinking (disempowered). The Alchemist/Magician represents an ability to identify and understand the illusions that the Saboteur concocts and seeing the possibilities in situations.  The ancient Alchemists where focused on changing lead to gold and the symbolic Alchemist can see the gold in the leaden situations.   In film/tv:  Miranda - Sex & the City,  Hermione - Harry Potter    The Prostitute Corollary or attendant archetype:  Lover    The Heart Emotions, Faith, Negotiation, Integrity, Self-Worth Lover / Prostitute Element:  Water   In film/tv:  Charlotte from Sex in the City, Hagrid from Harry Potter    The Prostitute archetype engages lessons in integrity and the sale or negotiation of one’s integrity or spirit due to fears of physical and financial survival or for financial gain. This archetype activates the aspects of the unconscious that are related to seduction and control, whereby you are as capable of buying a controlling interest in another person as you are in selling your own power. Prostitution should also be understood as the selling of your talents, ideas, and any other expression of the self–or the selling-out of them. This archetype is universal and its core learning relates to the need to birth and refine self-esteem and self-respect. The disempowered version of the Prostitute is the People Pleaser, the empowered, the Lover who gives from their excess.     R.A.I.N.  process to working with archetypes adapted from work created by Tara Brach.  Acknowledge each of these stages in a journal or other creative outlet.   Recognize - the archetype Accept with Compassion - accept it’s message for you with compassion  Investigate - where and why this pattern comes up  Navigate  - to the next right action OR / Non-attachment - dis-engage from it

Blackout
“Not everything that is faced can be changed, but nothing can be changed until it is faced.” -James Baldwin This week, we are participating in #PodcastBlackout to amplify the seriousness of the need for action to address racism and police violence.  We, along with many, many others feel grief and outrage over the death of George Floyd, yet another black life taken at the hands of a police officer. The image of a uniformed white man with his knee on the neck of George Floyd pinned the ground is a chilling symbol of white supremacy in our country and the way that many of our brothers and sisters feel every day of their lives in big ways and small. George Floyd, Breonna Taylor, Ahmaud Arbery and so many others have lost their lives in the pandemic that has been going on since long before Coronavirus.  The pandemic of racism, racial inequality, racial violence and white supremacy.  Placing our attention on so much pain and rage is f*ing hard yet required because so far as we can tell,  the vaccine for this pandemic can be found in connection, compassion, prayer and consistent action taken to heal the chasms of willful ignorance, hatred, fear and brokenness of our world.  Here are some ideas that we have gathered if you are wondering how you can participate in healing the long standing injustices facing our world: ❤️ Connect with community. Listen. ❤️ Connect to nature. Listen. ❤️ Make sure you are registered to vote and VOTE. Local elections are important! ❤️ Connect with, listen, support, follow and donate to organizations working for justice.  Here are some: Black Lives Matter Campaign Zero (police accountability) The Bail Project Poor People's Campaign Showing Up for Racial Justice National Bail Fund Network (to find bail funds in your area) The Innocence Project Fair Fight (organizing against voter suppression) NAACP Legal Defense Fund African American Policy Institute For white folks specifically: It's incumbent upon white people to humbly listen to and bear witness to the experiences of communities of color. What affects one, affects us all. It's not enough to not be racist ourselves but to actively practice anti-racism. If a social media post or a donation could fix this, it would be done already. As with all evolutionary process, it will take inner and outer work. And it will get uncomfortable. Failing and missing the mark is part of the process so don't let that stop you.  In the words of Samuel Beckett "Ever tried. Ever failed. No matter. Try again. Fail again. Fail better." ❤️ LISTEN and learn from the organizations above and people of color sharing their stories. Be open to what is uncomfortable. There are plenty of stories to learn from and many different perspectives.  Below are some podcasts worth checking out - there are many more: United States of Anxiety - from WNYC Hear to Slay with Roxanne Gay & Tressie McMillam Cottom - from Luminary Media White Lies - NPR What Matters - Black Lives Matter ❤️ Do the heart work of examining your own shadows and complicity in a white culture's dominance. Shadow in this context means you are not aware or conscious of something - this is not a cudgel to beat yourself up, but an exploration with compassion as to where you can heal so as to help stop the cycle. Seek guidance of a qualified counselor if needed.   ❤️ Explore some of the anti-rascism resources available.  Here are a couple: How to be an Antiracist by Ibrahim X. Kendi  (Start a book club perhaps?) bit.ly/ANTIRACISMRESOURCES ❤️ All of the above will guide you to your next right actions.

Survival Archetypes: Guides to Navigating a Pandemic Part 1

Wide Open: Three Archetypal Processes of Evolution
Amidst this pandemic we are feeling all the feels. It’s exhausting, it’s confounding, it’s scary and undoubtedly it’s changed life as we know it forever.   In this episode we dive into the archetypal catalysts of three tarot cards, Death/Rebirth, Judgement and The World. We unpack how these relate to the corona virus pandemic and how they can provide insight into our individual and collective opportunities for a pretty big leap in evolution.   We present questions that can help us process what is going on and discover our part in this evolutionary process.  We finish with an idea for an exercise to open ourselves and attune to the inspiration of beauty even in these dark times. **Note** This recording contains coarse  language as well as humor.  If the idea of death, is overwhelming for you, consider saving this episode for later.  We don’t present anything graphic but we do reference metaphorical death and rebirth as a part of the evolution/growth process. If that's too much right now, we get it - all of our feelings and experiences are heightened as we navigate this crisis and the last thing we want is to make it worse. We send you aloha and compassion.  We named the episode Wide Open based on the title of a painting created by Cyndera's friend Angela Han.  The painting itself was inspired by a song of the same name written by Cyndera and her husband, Joro.  Both song and painting were created in the last month amidst the covid-19 pandemic. Look for a bonus episode with more info. We hope you find inspiration and hope you’ll reach out to us on social media or by email.  For a photo of the painting and links and references visit the show page here: https://archetypaltarot.podbean.com/e/wide-open-three-archetypal-processes-of-evolution/ Journal / exercise / exploration or card spread prompts: Death-Rebirth  Endings, cycles of transformation, change, new beliefs, new awareness , renewal  (Reversed) not wanting to move on, clinging to the past, fear of change, sentimental, end of hope, forces of destruction   Question: What are you letting go of now and how does that inform your dream of the future?    Judgment self realization and understanding, spiritual awakening, knowing motives, transparency, a reckoning, epiphany  (Reversed) hiding - shadow material   Question: What part of yourself in this crisis needs to be “un-judged” by acceptance in order to feel more whole?    The World  Completion, wholeness, new levels of consciousness, (Reversed) short cuts, a need to follow through, unmet dreams, a need  to stay focused to complete a task.    Questions: What does your beautiful future look like?  Are you able to envision a future where our world has evolved SO much for the better?    Beauty Journal Hat tip to the Metaphysical Milkshake podcast and Dr. Rhett Diessner for this idea. CoronArchetypes: An archetypal discussion about WTF is going on.
Cyndera & Julienne discuss the the Corona Virus pandemic through the lens of the archetypal stories of the tarot.  Keeping in mind that we drew The Strength card as our focus for 2020, we pull in a few more that we see in evidence during this crisis and discuss how this archetypal view can guide and possibly bring something new to the world during the darkest time.    Tarot Cards / archetypal stories discussed are:  STRENGTH, HANGED MAN, HERMIT, TOWER, DEATH-REBIRTH We are careful in our discussion to honor what unfolds with compassion (and especially self compassion) and not castigate people for not approaching the hardships with a purely spiritual view.  All of our capacities are needed at this time even if it means standing in the closet and screaming obscenities to re-set ourselves for the road ahead.  We also discuss ways to use time away from regular routines to re-connect with friends, spend time in nature, bring life to new projects and observe the process of creativity as fomented by BEING (Yin/Feminine) and then brought to life by DOING (Yang/Masculine). References: As usual we recognize our podcast friends, colleagues and sheroes for their thoughtful contributions and ideas.  ✨ Rash of Stay Woke Tarot reminds us of compassion for ourselves and not feeling ashamed of a less than spiritual approach.  ✨ Award winning author, academic and bad@ss goddess, Naomi Klein ✨ Cyndera's first ever certified Story Through Stone Reader, Desiree Ammons of Sukha Self Care. ✨ Ke'oni Hanalei of Pohala Hawaiian Botanicals references the lessons of Hawaiian Fern Medicine, particularly Laukahi - Divine Magnetism. ✨ Author, card-slinger and all around bad@ss of tarot, Melissa Cynova turned us on to The Lightseer's Tarot by Chris-Anne which are the images we focus on.

The Soul Purpose Podcast
It has been a time of darkness, literal darkness, as California in the past weeks have been plunged into power outages, fears of fire, evacuations and unspeakable loss because of those fires - once again.  As the smoke thickens and we face a “new normal,” we seem to be seeing even less clearly around us and are uncertain in these darkening times. True Light, when it comes, is unexpected and often fleeting. More and more we ask, what is our path as a human race? What is our place here on this earth? What can I in my one life do to contribute?  This podcast explores the quest for purpose through a recent reading. The querent asks how she can find her path again and what's important to her amidst a chaotic daily family life. This question is a meaningful personal plea that has collective significance.  Here is how you can get an online reading from anywhere in the world: First Visit storythroughstone.org/readings   Purchase the reading using the PayPal button. Readings are usually $75 but with your $30 discount they will only be $45 by Typing in Promo Code STONESEASON. This offer will stand just until the end of 2019, so take advantage and purchase the gift of a reading for a friend as well! You may also support this podcast by making a pledge at tiny.cc/tarot. Gifts of the Oyster: Stories and Synchronicities
How might we liberate our card readings to reveal not only personal insights but also deepen our dialogue with the Earth itself? This question began with a reading for a young woman in Spain, asking if she should leave for London to study acting. The story that resulted, "The Gift of the Oyster" revealed a surprising chain of synchronicities that lead Archetypal Podcast host, Cyndera Quackenbush, to connect more deeply with the surrounding environment and its shelled companions.  Do you have a grit of sand you would like to explore as a possible pearl in a Story Through Stone Reading? We are still accepting questions and readings to be featured on the Podcast, which you can submit by becoming a Patron and e-mailing tarotpodcast@gmail.com. Make your tiny, or not so tiny pledge at tiny.cc/tarot and warmest thanks to our current patrons!

The Pillar and the Mermaid
Special Summer Travel Edition! Cyndera makes her way to Athens and Thessaloniki, Greece, and reflects on two contrasting yet complimentary archetypes - the Pillar and the Mermaid - and how both are present in the images of the Tarot. Stories emerge from Cyndera's own childhood as the failed Delphi of the Desert, and she also offers a creative retelling of the Contest of Athena and Poseidon inspired by her trip to the Acropolis. Questions, Readings and their stories will resume in the next podcast! You can still receive a reading by becoming a patron at tiny.cc/tarot and e-mailing tarotpodcast@gmail.com with your question.

Emotional Intelligence: A Conversation with Ke'oni Hanalei
Ke’oni Hanalei is an alchemist, Hawaiian Cultural Practitioner and founder of Pohala Botanicals https://www.pohala.net/ in Kula, Maui, Hawaii. Ke’oni comes from a long line of medicine holders (called Kahuna here in Hawaii), his lineage extends far, far, far back in time. He inherited sacred fern medicine wisdom his Grandmother, Kau’ikeonalani. We hope you enjoy this conversation with Ke’oni as we discuss masculine & feminine energies, emotional intelligence and what we are all called to be and do to fulfill our destinies and the destiny of the planet. Definitely follow Ke’oni on Instagram at pohala_hawaiian_botanicals - his website is pohala.net. Aloha means love. SPECIAL GIFT from Ke’oni - us the code FERN15 to receive 15% off your order through his website. Topics include: masculine & feminine energies, compassion, purpose & meaning, Emotional intelligence - feeling the feels, true expression of the Self Hawaiian Language: There is more than a little bit of Hawaiian language used in the podcast so here is a handy cheat sheet in case you need it. The Hawaiian language is contextual and relational as well as poetic. It frequently does not translate directly 'one to one' and words have multiple meanings but here is my best attempt to share the meanings of some of the words used in the podcast. Aloha: There are many meanings of aloha but my sense is that they culminate in what we call Love with a capital L. It’s worth noting that 'alo' means ‘presence’ and ‘ha' is the breath of life - so in a way it’s the recognition of sacred presence which is Love. It’s used as both hello and goodbye as well. Kapili (kah-pee-lee) : to bond, synthesis, put together, unite Kapu (kah-poo): forbidden, sacred, protected (because it’s sacred) Kūkala: proclaim Pōhala: to recover consciousness; to wake from stupor. PōHALA, to ascend. Huna: secret, hidden Kahuna: expert, priests/priestess, keeper of sacred knowledge, medicine holder 'Ike (ee-kay): wisdom Mana’o (man-na-oh): thought Kiakahi (key-ah-kah-hee): purpose & meaning Ke'oni and Julienne
