31 | It's Hard to Hate Up Close: Standing Firm in Faith and Wisdom with Shealeen Louise
Matthew 7:3-5 says, "Why do you look at the speck of sawdust in your brother’s eye and pay no attention to the plank in your own eye? How can you say to your brother, ‘Let me take the speck out of your eye,’ when all the time there is a plank in your own eye? You hypocrite, first take the plank out of your own eye, and then you will see clearly to remove the speck from your brother’s eye." Let's dig into the vitriol of social media and how we should be responding as Christians to the chaos currently surrounding us. Friends, we should be so grounded in Truth afraid to listen to the lies. Let us have open hearts and open minds and keep a check on ourselves before we check others. Shealeen Bishop is a well-known watercolor artist and has been featured in stores like Urban Outfitters. Prior to her art, she was in a popular band, Poema, and lived in Nashville with her sister as they pursued their music.   On today’s episode, Lindsey and Lenya talk with Shealeen about her transition out of her music and why she and her sister decided to leave, even when their music and popularity was at its peak. She shares her heart on pursuing watercolor art and how she was able to process some of the most things she had been handed in life through her painting.     They discuss the pursuit of entrepreneurship and the wonderful opportunity in our current generation to pursue our passions and to make it a business. Lenya shares how that differs from her own generation and what her experience has been as a working woman. Lindsey and Shealeen agree with maintaining boundaries in that entrepreneurship while working from home, as well as the importance of supporting our spouses in their passions, goals and dreams.    Shealeen offers encouragement and wisdom when it comes to pushing back to the ‘haters’, to cancel culture and standing firm through fear in faith. She reminds listeners of the call in the Bible to remove the plank in our own eyes before trying to remove the speck in another's.   Find Shealeen's artwork at shealeenlouise.com or on Instagram and YouTube @shealeenlouise!   Follow along with The All the Things podcast on Instagram @allthethings.podcast!
