TAWF Clean 42: NXT Takeover Chicago II
NXT Takeover: Chicago II (that’s a mouthful) takes place Saturday, June 15th. The event will more than likely be better than Money in The Bank, but that’s not saying much. Chicago Street Fight One year ago at this same event, Tommaso Ciampa turned on Johnny Gargano after they lost a tag team ladder match to the Authors of Pain. One year later, the feud will potential come to its rightful conclusion after a Chicago Street Fight. That match type has some significance because of the location, but it feels weird to have this match type instead of a more extreme match type because their unsanctioned match at Takeover: New Orleans was basically just a street fight. In any regard, this will be one of the best matches of the weekend. NXT Championship Aleister Black will defend the title he won at Takeover: New Orleans against Lars Sullivan. This will be a big test for Lars Sullivan. You’ve got to wonder if Aleister will have a strong title defense against a strong challenger or lose the title fairly quickly and move onto the main roster. NXT Women’s Championship Shayna Baszler choked out Ember Moon at Takeover: New Orleans to become the NXT Women’s Champion. She defended her title by submitting Dakota Kai on a recent episode of NXT. After the match, Nikki Cross attacked Shayna to set-up a feud and this match. It feels kind of weird to have Nikki in this match because she should be on the main roster with a yet-to-debut Sanity, but WWE feels like there are not enough women in NXT currently. Wouldn’t be surprised if Nikki was used to get Shayna over as a monster heel of the women’s division. NXT Tag Team Championship Roderick Strong and Kyle O’Reilly will defend against Danny Burch and Oney Lorcan in what is sure to be a hard-hitting affair. Big fan of the Burch/Lorcan tandem, but it feels like Tyler Bate and Trent Seven should be in this role given the fact that The Undisputed Era has been going after their British Strong Style stablemate and UK Champ Pete Dunne. Velveteen Dream vs. Ricochet Only four words are needed to describe this match. Match. Of. The. Weekend.

Max Minicast: Performance Matters
So, I got scolded on Twitter by Jonathan Coachman. I was browsing Reddit, R/squaredcircle to be specific, and I saw a thread that featured a screen shot of Jonathan Coachman’s infamous tweet regarding Ronda Rousey going to WWE. I clicked the tweet for further context and found this gem: Amazing performance by Nunes. I am afraid this will be the final time we see Rousey. Not fun to see on any level. End of an era. #UFC207 — Jonathan Coachman (@TheCoachrules) December 31, 2016 Yes, she suffered two brutal losses. To be fair Holly Holm is a horrible matchup for Ronda and Amanda Nunes may be skill-for-skill the best women’s bantamweight we’ve seen, but back to the matter at hand. I’m sure many of you have seen Coach’s follow-up tweet when someone responded his initial tweet: Sorry no chance. You can't bring in her at any point. Perception matters. That performance mattered. https://t.co/0HGPgVNLod — Jonathan Coachman (@TheCoachrules) December 31, 2016 I jokingly quoted the tweet on the TAWF account and said, “this aged well.” Sure, it was petty to tag @OldTakesExposed, but I thought it’d be funny because a year after Coach’s tweet, Ronda Rousey was pointing at the WrestleMania sign in front of a rabid WWE crowd. Wow, that’s wild. It’s almost like WWE didn’t have to rebuild a supposedly broken star because, stick with me here, Ronda Rousey is still a superstar in the eyes of the general public. If perception mattered that much, Brock Lesnar and Ken Shamrock would’ve been booed out of the building when they came back to wrestling. Brock got destroyed by Cain Velasquez and Allistair Overeem. Ken Shamrock lost his UFC Superfight title to Dan Severn in one of the worst fights in UFC history (in Detroit, no less). Of course, Coach wasn’t as amused and responded to my retweet: When you do a show called @FirstTake you have to give an OPINION. For the last time I couldn’t be happier to be wrong on that take. I want everyone to succeed. But for those of you who think somehow this matters now are doing what you did then. Watching us work. #moveon. https://t.co/HiDEgfrdHC — Jonathan Coachman (@TheCoachrules) June 4, 2018 You can hear my response below.

Tyler Bate Injured The 21 year old phenom suffered an injury wrestling Kaissius Ohno during PROGRESS Wrestling’s Super Strong Style Tournament. Ohno eventually lost to Zack Sabre Jr in the finals. During Table for 3, footage of Kurt Angle and AJ Styles’ matches from Impact wrestling were shown. At the end of the episode, a graphic promoting the Global Wrestling Network was shown. More footage from Impact/Global Wrestling Network will be used in an upcoming Hardy Boyz DVD. (Ringside News) Three MITB matches On Monday, it was established that there will be two Money in The Bank matches. One with the men, one with the women. The artwork for the show indicates that there would be three briefcases (the women’s silver briefcase, a red briefcase for RAW, and a blue case for Smackdown). Although nothing has been confirmed, several tag teams have noted their desire to win the MITB case on the most recent episode of RAW. (Cleveland.com) New Day No Longer a Draw? The trio’s sales numbers have dropped dramatically, although, there’s no metrics or data that have been released to support this. (Backstage in WWE)
