E039 // Shows, Singles, and a Transit Tribute
Josh and Colby recently hit up some shows. Now, we know you’re probably bummed that you didn’t get to see any of those shows, but that’s okay! Hearing Josh and Colby describe seeing The Wonder Years or Water Within is almost exactly like going yourself (sort of). We also review some singles, and give a tribute to the band that essentially brought this podcast into existence.   SONG CREDITS The Collection: “The Gown of Green” The Oh Hellos: “Hello My Old Heart” Tiny Moving Parts: “Celebrate” blink-182: “Bored to Death” Saosin: “Control and the Urge to Pray” Real Friends: “Colder Quicker” Transit: “Futures & Sutures” Transit: “Long Lost Friends” Rivers & Robots: “Shepherd of My Soul”   We're on... E037 // Social Media Spelunking
We’re known for trying out new things here at The Abnormality, but I’m not even sure Shuffle Roulette is this random. On this episode we check out some of the bands that have recently followed us on Instagram, and it’s quite an adventure. We also briefly review the Kings Kaleidoscope/Citizens & Saints show we recently attended (spoiler: it was dope). Oh, and if you like any of these bands, make sure you spread the word (and buy their stuff)!   SONG CREDITS Biffy Clyro: “Biblical” Citizens & Saints: “I Am Living in a Land of Death” Alive: “Levantame” Port Blue: “Into the Sea” Of the Sun: “Tentacled Eye” Jamestown Story: “Barefoot and Bruised” Anchor & Braille: “Watch You Burn” La Guerre: “Favored” Other Masquerades: “Ciao” Dias Pora: “Von J’s zu J’s” Cast of Galavant: “Galavant”   Ad music for this episode was “Drops of H2O (The Filtered Water Treatment)” by J. E036 // Panic! At the Sound of a Pop-Sensible Panic!, Part II [ft. Daniel Griffin]
STOP! Have you listened to Episode 35 yet? Well you probably should, because this is the second half of that conversation. Daniel Griffin and The Abnormality gents continue their conversation about Panic! At the Disco, zeroing in specifically on their new record "Death of a Bachelor." It's crazy, it's rad, and Colby is lost pretty much the entire time. Enjoy part two!   SONG CREDITS  The Starting Line: "Anyways" The Title: "Times Change" Must Be the Holy Ghost: "Undercover"   We're on... E035 // Panic! At the Sound of a Pop-Sensible Panic!, Part I [ft. Daniel Griffin]
Devout fan and crazed Floridian Daniel Griffin joins us to talk about Panic! At the Disco's new record "Death of a Bachelor." This results in a conversation so lengthy that we end up dividing it into two episodes. In this first half, we overview the history of Panic! and explain how they slowly evolved from "A Fever You Can't Sweat Out" to their latest full length. It's quite a ride. Be sure to check out Episode 36 for part two!   SONG CREDITS  The Mighty Mighty Bosstones: “The Impression That I Get” Panic! E034 // A Conversation with Hadwynn v3.0 (or Something)
We finally have an interview for you guys! Granted, they're friends of ours, and they're not technically a band anymore, but still, we got an interview! Andy, Josh, and Colby sit down with Daniel Moore and Jon Marks of the Raleigh, NC band Hadwynn. We've told you at least twice to check them out, but now you get to actually meet them (sort of). Daniel and Jon talk about being angsty teenage hardcore kids, writing and recording, the music industry, almost getting signed, life after being in a band, and a bunch of hilarious stories. You'll also get to hear them play some unreleased songs, which is probably the coolest thing we've gotten to be a part of to date. We love these dudes and know you will too. Oh, and just a warning: our mic was NOT designed to record live music, so it gets a little rough at points. That being said, these songs are killer, and you're gonna love them. Be sure to check Hadwynn out on iTunes!   Download Hadwynn's "Monuments" on iTunes:https://itunes.apple.com/us/album/monuments/id482826605   SONG CREDITS Yellowcard: “Transmission Home" Hadwynn: “Grandfathers' Graves [Live Acoustic]” Hadwynn: “99 [Live Acoustic]” Hadwynn: “Hawks and Crows [Live Acoustic]” Hadwynn: “Sing Softly”   We're on... E033 // Punk Goes... Wherever It Feels Like Going, Probably
Everyone loves a good cover. That being said, there's a lot of bad stuff out there too. In this episode, The Abnormality gents tackle the "Punk Goes..." series. We discuss why the series gets a bad rep, why some of it is actually worth listening to, and why a lot of it is still worth skipping. We also discuss what actually makes a good cover, and why a lot of covers actually fall short. We meant to talk about other covers too, but we're gonna have to do that in a different episode. Here's to you, Daniel Wawa.   SONG CREDITS I Set My Friends on Fire: "Crank That" Pentatonix: "Dog Days Are Over" The Maine: "Girls Just Wanna Have Fun" The Devil Wears Prada: "Still Fly" Four Year Strong: "Love Song" A Day to Remember: "Over My Head (Cable Car)" Flight of the Conchords: "Bowie"   We're on... E029 // I Guess You Could Say Things Are Getting Pretty Serious
We've had several people tell us they love hearing us talk about shows we go to. Well we've got some great news for those people: we went to some shows! Well, two, to be precise. First, we discuss a local show featuring Attalus, Greaver, and FS in a venue we sort of haven't been to. Then, we roll back a week and talk about a show we drove to Charlotte for, featuring The Wonder Years, Motion City Soundtrack, State Champs, and You Blew It! We won't spoil it here, so we'll just say that we hope you enjoy the discussion. We definitely did.   SONG CREDITS Crooks UK: "A Few Peaceful Days" Attalus: "The Problem of Pain" Attalus: "Night" State Champs: "Secrets" Kings Kaleidoscope: "All Glory Be to Christ" The Gaslight Anthem: "45"   We're now on... E025 // The Quest to Find Andy's Mojo, Part II
You know how sometimes when you're sitting with your friends recording an alternative music podcast you end up talking way longer than you planned to? Well, that happened to us, so we're splitting this recording in half. For obvious reasons, you'll want to listen to Episode 24 before you listen to Episode 25. In this second half of the recording, we discuss blessthefall's new record "To Those Left Behind" and Lydia's "Run Wild." Naturally, we also go on a tangent about The Wonder Years, because that's what we do on The Abnormality Podcast. Remember, if you haven't listened to Episode 24 yet, go do that before listening to this one!   SONG CREDITS   The Republic of Wolves: "A Weather Vane" blessthefall: "Decayer" Lydia: "Georgia" HalfNoise: "Inside"   We're now on...
