Applied HR Technology with Casey Giordano
Casey Giordano served six years in the Minnesota Army National Guard and is now teaching and studying counterproductive work behaviours, deviance, and personality with applications in wearable tech at the University of Minnesota. His work bridges the gap between the theoretical and the applied.   Casey and I discussed the broad implications of tech in and out of the workplace and it's impact on both sides of the employer-employee dynamic. The Symphonic Scientist Patricia Izbicki
Patricia Izbicki is a Neuroscientist studying the neuroscience of music at Iowa State University. Her research reveals the nature of various diseases and has applications in symptom management for developmental degenerative diseases like Alzheimer's and Parkinson's. She ultimately aspires to identify new strategies for designing accessible evidence-based music interventions to promote cognitive and motor health later in life. Kian Betancourt graduated high school at the age of 15, he completed his bachelors at the age of 19 and his masters in experimental psychology by the age of 21. At 24 he is only one year away from earning his PhD in Applied Organizational Psychology at Hofstra University. He's something of a Doogie Howser in IO Psychology. Nick Hobson is the Chief Behavioral Scientist at the behaviorist.biz and is an advising strategy-organizational change scientist. He's served as a visiting professor of various Universities over the last 10 years. His mission is to build bridges between academia and industry to better understand the drivers of human behavior in employee and user contexts. The Electrifying Helena Hartmann
Helena Hartmann is a European Neuroscientist or a “Euroscientist” if you will. Her doctoral research is a deep dive into why you feel other people's pain in your brain – AKA empathy. She is deeply interested in the role that empathy has in making us engage in prosocial acts like helping and supporting others and engaging in organizational citizenship behaviors. She also studies the human sensory awareness that researchers call interoception - a lesser-known sense that helps you understand and feel what's going on inside of your body. Her research is tremendously interesting and has great implications for emotional intelligence, mindfulness, how we vicariously process various forms of pain and what we do with this information. I recently had the pleasure of discussing all of this with Helena. Andrew Marcinko is a behavioural scientist who has worked on projects involving the U.N., N.A.S.A. and the U.S. Navy Submarine School. He's a diversity & inclusion expert who studies authenticity, hypocrisy, & messaging and its relationship with trust in work and life. I recently had the pleasure of discussing issues pertaining to diversity and inclusion and the critical role of honesty and transparency in cultivating cultures of trust that are likely to be helpful during times that require people to go above and beyond.
