T4B148: Thermomix Pasta Bake Recipes
Thermomix Pasta Bake Recipes = Comfort In Episode 148, we’re diving into comfort food. We think a pasta bake made with your Thermomix just screams ‘comfort’. We’ve got 3 delicious pasta bakes in this episode which are sure to cover all the bases. Click on the play button at the top or download this in iTunes or on Stitcher Radio (and don’t forget to leave a review – it really makes our day!) For Mother’s Day Bec got a whiz bang Philips Pasta & Noodle maker. We absolutely love it BUT our grain free pasta recipe wasn’t working in the machine. It was just too wet, so after many a trial and error we’ve developed the perfect Thermomix grain free pasta recipe that will work in the Philips Pasta Machine. Ingredients: 200g potato starch 150g tapioca starch 2 tsp xanthan gum 3 eggs 60g olive oil 5 tsp water – Method: 1. Add the potato starch (200g), tapioca starch (150g), xanthan gum (2 tsp), eggs (3) and olive oil (60g) to the mixer bowl. Blitz Speed 6 / 10 seconds. Scrape down sides and ensure there is no mixture stuck under the blades. 2. Add water (5 tsp) to the bowl. Mix Closed Lid / Kneading Function / 15 seconds. 3. Remove the dough from the bowl and use as desired. – Now you absolutely do not need fresh pasta for these pasta bakes. Dried packet pasta will work an absolute treat. Here are the recipes we came up with: Recipe 1 – Spinach and Ricotta Pasta This recipe is featured in The Comfort Issue of The 4 Blades Magazine (which is being release at 8pm on the day that this podcast goes out). This is an old fave of Bec’s from when she used to eat gluten and dairy way, way back in the day. This is so delicious. These giant pasta shells can be a bit difficult to find. You may need to source an Italian deli in your local area. Spinach and Ricotta is such a classic Italian filling, baked in the tomato sauce with these special pasta shells makes this dish really special. Recipe 2 – Peta’s Favourite Macaroni Cheese Mac and Cheese is a classic! So much so, we featured this recipe in The Classics Issue of The 4 Blades Magazine. It’s also available on Peta’s brilliant blog too. We made this with gluten free short penne pasta as gluten free macaroni is quite difficult to find. It worked great! Cheese, pasta and bacon is sure to go down an absolute treat! Recipe 3 – Creamy Roast Pumpkin and Pine Nut Pasta Bake This is a new recipe on the blog and it’s a ripper. It makes a heap and is full of delicious surprises. With bites of roasted pumpkin, chicken and toasted pine nuts mixed through a deliciously creamy white sauce this recipe is a winner. What’s really cool about this recipe is that it can quite easily be made dairy free while still remaining beautifully creamy. BIG ANNOUNCEMENT At the end of this week’s show we announce that Episode 150 is coming up and that after 4 years… Episode 150 will be our big finale of the podcast! Don’t be too worried though, it does not spell the end of The 4 Blades – not by a long shot. We’re simply going to be doing some experimenting (which we love to do) to see how best to connect with you all. We LOVE to help people grow their kitchen confidence by making the most out of their mixers and we want to do that as effectively as humanly possible. T4B147: Kids Thermomix Dinner Party with Sam
Kids Thermomix Dinner Party Inspiration In Episode 147, we have a VERY special guest. This week we’ve got our nephew Sam on board to help us put together a super cool kids Thermomix dinner party. Sam is almost 9 and he was involved with every step of this dinner party from planning to cooking to serving. Click on the play button at the top or download this in iTunes or on Stitcher Radio (and don’t forget to leave a review – it really makes our day!) The challenge we wanted to tackle this week was to have a dinner party that kids will love, adults will devour and that kids can do themselves. Enter Super Sam! Here’s the plan that Sam came up with: Recipe 1 – Entree: Olive Hummus Dip with Home Made Grain Free Crackers. First up we wanted to have something that people could enjoy as they arrived. So dip and crackers it was and who doesn’t love hummus?? Sam had the brilliant idea of crossing a hummus dip with an olive tapenade and the results were stellar. We’ve featured the grain free crackers in The On The Road Issue of The 4 Blades Magazine. Bec and Peta did a Facebook live video explaining how to make them when Bec visited Peta in Canberra earlier this year. Recipe 2 – Main: Sam’s Cheesy Surprise Burgers The absolute star of the show (other than Sam) would have to be these Cheesy Surprise Burgers. The recipe for these burgers were developed by Sam and they were absolutely delicious. We love the burst of flavour the cheese mix brings and the cooking technique means these burgers are delicious and juicy. You have to give these bad boys a shot. Recipe 3 – Dessert: Malteser Ice Cream Pie Maltesers, ice cream, rice bubbles, chocolate…. need we say more?? This is such an easy dessert that is so achievable for kids and super impressive when it’s served. All of the guest won’t believe how clever the maker of this delicious pie is. Tune in for Super Sam’s tips and tricks as we take you into our kitchen as we cook up a storm. Do you have any favourite recipes for kids? Leave us a note in the comments below! T4B146: Six Ways to Host a Rocking Dinner Party
Ready to Host a Rocking Dinner Party? We’ve Got You Covered. We love to entertain. We think that GREAT memories are created with family and friends around food. You are well on your way to a great dinner party by using some of the awesome recipes you will find on this blog and in The 4 Blades Magazine. To seal the deal, there are just a handful of simple factors that to consider. Click on the play button at the top or download this in iTunes or on Stitcher Radio (and don’t forget to leave a review – it really makes our day!) Here is the bottom line: a good dinner party happens when the guests feel relaxed and connected to the other guests. If they can walk away from the night and say “I really enjoyed spending time with that group of people”, you’ve won. Here are six ways to host a rocking dinner party: Think about your guests. Everyone wants to feel comfortable at a dinner party, regardless of whether they know people or not. It is your job as the host to make your guests feel as comfortable as possible. Will your guests already know each other? How many people will be there? In the podcast you will hear our top tips for helping your guests to have a great time. Consider having a theme. Themes can sure can add a lot of fun. Before you shy away from the idea, theme doesn’t have to mean dress up, themed food, or naff decorations (although, it totally could if you wanted it to!) In the podcast you will hear about some of the themes we have hosted, and the way you can bring those themes together. Here we are at Bec’s Italian restaurant-themed murder mystery party: The Dinner Party Issue has a Mexican Fiesta Dinner Party (be sure to check out last week’s episode too) and an Italian Dinner Party AND a Summer BBQ, with time lines, shopping lists, menus and recipes.. Maximise Your Place and Space. Consider how many people you have attending, and your theme, to decide what would be the optimal place for your dinner party. It doesn’t have to be expensive… in fact, sometimes if you are on a tight budget it can be better to go FUNNY rather than ELEGANT. Maybe some tacky red and white checked tablecloths for an Italian dinner party. You can also explore different areas of your home, maybe string up some fairy lights for an enchanted garden party. You can go for a colour scheme. You can think decorations / adornments for table and surrounds. Heaps of places like Kmart and Big W now have all of there party gear separated into colours. You can print menus for the ‘dining’ experience. Search for printable menus online or you can use the menus from The Dinner Party Issue. We cover all of these options and more in this week’s podcast episode. Get the What, When and How Loud of Your Music RIGHT. Music can be theme based, or can absolutely be whatever you like. Create or borrow a playlist and have it on a bit louder as people arrive and then turn it down later in the night as people are more comfortable and chatting. We love Spotify and there are playlists for everything. Organise Some Help. Do you need someone to help you enjoy the night? Maybe you want some help in the kitchen or serving the food. Have a look at the resources you have at hand, including: Husband / Wife? Your kids? Other family members? Babysitter A platform like Airtasker Make The Food Fabulous! We totally have this covered for you. This month’s edition of The 4 Blades Magazine is The Dinner Party Issue. It’s packed with over 40 recipes for you to enjoy. There are recipes for 7 complete dinner parties, printable shopping lists, cooking plans and menus. What’s your rocking dinner party tip? Leave us a note in the comments below! If you enjoyed this podcast, we’d be extremely grateful if you would take a second and leave us a review and rating over on iTunes. T4B145: Thermomix Mexican Fiesta with Tenina
Thinking of Throwing Your Own Thermomix Mexican Fiesta? In Episode 145, we welcome Tenina from Cooking with Tenina back on the show to talk all things Thermomix Mexican Fiesta! Mexican food is perfect for a dinner party… it’s easy, delicious and a lot of it can be made ahead of time. Click on the play button at the top or download this in iTunes or on Stitcher Radio (and don’t forget to leave a review – it really makes our day!) May has seen the release of both The Dinner Party Issue of The 4 Blades Magazine (which has a complete Thermomix Mexican Fiesta section) and Tenina’s new book ‘Mexican Fiesta’. Both have delicious recipes that you can make to create an amazing Mexican feast. In our conversation with Tenina we talked all about throwing a Mexican Fiesta at home. Here are some of the key tips that we picked up during our chat: 1. Some of the things you need to consider are how many people are attending and what dietary requirements you need to cater for. Once you’ve got that nailed you can think about the number of courses and what they consist of. 2. Tenina says that starting with drinks is always a winner as people will find you funnier after a couple of drinks. LOVE that tip! 3. Once you’ve got the margaritas flowing, people tend to get a bit peckish. As this is a Mexican fiesta why not whip up a guacamole and serve with some crispy tortilla chips. Tenina has a recipe to make corn chips from SCRATCH in her new book! Here are some yummy guacamole recipes you can use to accompany: Tenina’s Holy Guacamole Our Simple Thermomix Guacamole 4. Once everyone has arrived you can move onto starters and mains. With a Mexican fiesta we all think that it’s nice to have more of a shared experience. Tenina talked through some recipes from her book including Crispy Tortillas with a Roasted Capsicum Sauce and Charred Corn on the Cob. Check out one of Tenina’s Charred Corn recipes here: Tenina’s Charred Corn on the Cob 5. Then it’s onto the mains! Tenina loves her Chicken Tinga (a shredded chicken stew that makes a heap!) Consider which side dishes (there’s a link below!) For a vegetarian option, you can’t go past Tenina’s Blackbean and Quinoa Chilli which is really hearty and filling. Tenina’s Charred Corn & Quinoa Salad 6. Finally, for dessert there’s a beautiful Caramelised Mango Tart with Puff Pastry or Gluten Free Aztec Brownies served with Dulce de Leche Ice Cream. Check out the podcast we did with Tenina about Puff Pastry Caramelised Mango Tart from Cooking with Tenina Listen to the whole interview for all the tips, tricks and fun we have along the way. T4B144: Impromptu Thermomix Dinner Party
Unexpected Guests? Impromptu Thermomix Dinner Party Time! In Episode 144, we plan out what to serve for an impromptu Thermomix dinner party. You didn’t know they were coming, but now they are, and you have to leap into action! Heck, we didn’t even go to the shops for this issue, and the fridge was bare! We have got you covered. This podcast ties in with the May issue of The 4 Blades Magazine: The Dinner Party Issue! Click on the play button at the top or download this in iTunes or on Stitcher Radio (and don’t forget to leave a review – it really makes our day!) We LOVE to entertain and sometimes we find ourselves with extras for dinner (which we also love, by the way!) that we weren’t planning on. Can you relate? In this episode we explored what could be created for an impromptu Thermomix dinner party. With all the public holidays recently our shopping routine was all out of whack which meant the cupboard, the fridge and the freezer were all pretty bare. The challenge this week was to create a great dinner party with what little we had: Recipe 1 – Flat Breads with Moroccan Carrot Dip When guests arrive we love to have something out that they can snack on. We use our grain free pizza bases as flat breads and either serve them with dip or cook them with dip on top. You can also use your favourite pizza base if you prefer! Tip: What have you got in the fridge or the cupboard that you can use for a dip? Have you got nuts and herbs to make a pesto? Carrots and spices, capsicum, sun-dried tomatoes, jars of roast capsicum or chickpeas… One word… Hummus. (Why are Bec and Joe giggling when we say this? See the video below… watch from 3:17 minutes if you are short of time!) Recipe 2 – Caramelised Onion and Roast Vegetable Quiche While we were baking the carrots for the dip above we also threw in what veggies we had in the crisper to roast. Roast veggies are a great addition to any meal! We had some pumpkin and zucchini. Before caramelising the onions we made the grain free tart shell from The Dinners Issue. As an alternative, you can use the shortcrust pastry recipe we discussed in Episode 110 of the podcast, when we interviewed Sophia the Thermomix baking blogger… or simply buy some shortcrust pastry! We rolled out our tart shells and blind baked them. We have often heard that you can’t use a Thermomix to caramelise onions… Well friends, we want to tell you that you CAN indeed cook caramelised onions in your Thermomix and they really lift the common quiche. We got the Thermomix to work. The best thing about this is that you don’t need to stand there for ages while your onions cook down, the drawback is that it does take quite a while (30 minutes). We then laid caramelised onions on the base and topped them with roast vegetables, before filling them with an egg mixture (10 eggs + 100g milk, Speed 6 / 10 seconds). We baked them for about 30 minutes at 180C, or until they didn’t have a ‘wobble’ anymore. This made two quiches and they are absolutely delicious. Recipe 3 – Chunky Thermomix Potato Bake We needed an easy side dish. Bec was thinking about potato bake and wondered if it would matter if the potatoes were sliced or diced. Every potato bake we’ve ever had has had sliced potato. Turns out diced potato bake is delicious! This is a delightful side dish to go with the above quiches and ever so simple to make. Recipe 4 – Choc Banana Nice Cream As you will hear in the show, we had a LOT of frozen bananas. So we thought why not go the delicious Choc Banana Nice Cream from our interview with Yummy Goodness owner Hayley Abell in Episode 143 of the podcast. To make this a real dinner party treat you could serve this with bowls of crushed nuts, cacao, seeds or any other toppings that you love and your guests can make their own creations. Do you have any easy impromptu dinner party faves? Leave us a note in the comments below! If you enjoyed this podcast, we’d be extremely grateful if you would take a second and leave us a review and rating over on iTunes. T4B143: Thermomix Cafe Tips with Hayley Abell from Yummy Goodness
Have you ever thought about opening a Thermomix Cafe? In Episode 143, we’ve got a really interesting guest on the show. A couple of months ago it was getting to the crazy time of the month where we were coming up to our magazine launch date. Joe decided to get out of the house to get some work done and wandered into a great little coffee shop called ‘Yummy Goodness’. He went to order a coffee and while doing so noticed a line up of Thermomixes (what is the plural here? Thermomice??) and was intrigued. Turns out this beautiful little cafe is powered by Thermomix! Click on the play button at the top or download this in iTunes or on Stitcher Radio (and don’t forget to leave a review – it really makes our day!) Listen in as we interview the delightful Hayley Abell, the owner of the Yummy Goodness Cafe in Nundah, Brisbane. Yummy Goodness is 100% gluten free, with lots of vegan, vegetarian, paleo, raw food and allergy friendly options to choose from. We have never spoken about the Thermomix being used in a commercial environment on the podcast before (let alone a Thermomix cafe!) so we really enjoyed this interview (and learned a lot!) In this chat Hayley talks us through… Her Thermo journey. How she came to be a Thermomix owner to begin with How her love of the Thermomix lead to opening Yummy Goodness A typical day at Yummy Goodness including; how the Thermies are put to use for food prep, what the most popular items are in store, where the Thermomix fits into the commercial workflow of a cafe. Great prep tips you can learn from this Thermomix cafe but implement at home. Hayley was also kind enough to share one of her go-to desserts for when she’s at home. Check out the Chocolate Banana Vegan Nice Cream. We made this and it is so quick and easy. It’s a really great option for a quick, healthy sweet fix. If you live in Brisbane or are visiting we highly recommend popping in to say hi to the team at Yummy Goodness to check out all their Thermolicious goodness (The coffee is pretty great too!). Here’s where you can find them online: Yummy Goodness Website Facebook Instagram Do you have a local Thermomix cafe? Tell us about it in the comments below! T4B142: Speedy Green Healthy Soup Recipes
Chilly? Try These Green Healthy Soup Recipes in your Thermomix In Episode 142, we share three delicious Healthy Green Soup Thermomix recipes. Here in Australia the weather is starting to turn chilly and wintery. The days are getting shorter and the nights are cooler. So we thought what better time then now to explore some Speedy Green Soups, which are such great option when you are looking for healthy soup recipes that you can make in your Thermomix. Click on the play button at the top or download this in iTunes or on Stitcher Radio (and don’t forget to leave a review – it really makes our day!) We’ve all heard of green smoothies but sometimes when the weather is a bit cooler, smoothies may not be the order of the day. Check out these 3 deliciously healthy green soup recipes. Recipe 1 – Broccoli and Potato Soup from The Annoyed Thyroid This soup was so easy and so delicious. We made it even faster by using new (washed) potatoes and leaving them un-peeled. This is very much a ‘throw it in, cook and whiz up’ recipe. We tried it with and without dairy which resulted in quite different tasting but equally delicious soups. Recipe 2 – Zucchini, Mint and Feta Soup from Well Nourished After the hearty and carb heavy potato based soup above, we were looking for something lighter and lower carb. This soup was perfect! It was really light, fresh and so tasty. It took about 10 minutes in total which is such a win. This recipe has also been featured in The Healthy Eating Issue. Recipe 3 – Green Power Soup – Food Four Thought Now this soup is a must if you’re looking to smash some super healthy greens. It is PACKED full of kale, yet doesn’t have a really heavy kale flavour as you may expect. The technique of chopping the kale before putting it in the bowl really helped to control the usual characteristic bitterness of kale heavy dishes. It was quite a thick soup so it works great as a pasta sauce as well (like a basil pesto). However, if you like a thinner consistency just add some extra water. This one was a winner! Do you have any go to green soups? Leave us a note in the comments below! If you enjoyed this podcast, we’d be extremely grateful if you would take a second and leave us a review and rating over on iTunes. T4B141: Thermomix Breakfast Blitz Up
Need Some Quick Thermomix Breakfast Ideas? In Episode 141, we’re looking at Thermomix breakfast ideas… But not just any Thermomix breakfast ideas. We’re doing a super fast Thermomix Breakfast blitz up! Click on the play button at the top or download this in iTunes or on Stitcher Radio (and don’t forget to leave a review – it really makes our day!) The challenge for this week was to make super tasty, super healthy breakfasts that could be whizzed up in no time. Here’s what we came up with: Recipe 1 – Apple Berry Choc Crunch A rediscovered favourite. This recipe first appeared in The Breakfast Issue of The 4 Blades Magazine and we dug it up to give it a go for the podcast. Boy, oh boy were we glad we did! We did some experimenting with this recipe this time around as well. The original recipe from the mag uses coconut milk, whereas we gave it a go with yoghurt and also without either. All of which worked an absolute treat! So choose your own adventure with this one, it’s a ripper. Recipe 2 – Super Speedy Chocolate Breakfast Shake from Alexx Stuart Bec’s chiropractor has been recommending raw eggs for ages and this recipe finally gave her the impetus to try it. After trying it Bec felt GREAT! This recipe is such a good, healthy alternative to some of the store bought breakfast drinks out there. It’s not like drinking a chocolate milkshake but it is quite like some of the breakfast drinks out there. We suggest adjusting the amount of sweetener as required. We used 1 tsp xylitol for the sweetener and we also used yoghurt instead of coconut cream. Recipe 3 – Sweet Potato Breakfast Hash Not to be confused with hash browns, this hash is a great accompaniment to your eggs for breakfast. This makes a LOT so we recommend making it all up and then keeping it in the fridge to use during the week. How’s that! A full hot breakfast almost as easy as a bowl of cereal! This one is a really great one to listen to the podcast for. Bec really explains the method as it’s a bit different. Do you have any fave quick Thermomix breakfast options? Leave us a note in the comments below! If you enjoyed this podcast, we’d be extremely grateful if you would take a second and leave us a review and rating over on iTunes.
