The Calm Before The Storm
So a few days ago I published my introduction post and a video to discussed why I'm doing the 30 days of discipline program. In this post I thought I'd mentioned how I'm preparing my mind and allowing myself to have that "one last time" moment with some of the things I will be sacrificing over the next 30 days. Last night I went to a wedding so it wasn't difficult to be snacking on crackers and eating cake by the end of the night. Brendalyn (My girlfriend) & I actually met some cool new people so we met up with them and some other people from the wedding to have some drinks, which actually kept us out until 1am. Since I plan to be waking up at 5am every day for the next 30 days I knew this would be one of the last opportunities I'd have to do this. This morning I didn't wake up till 10am so it will be the last time for a while I'll be sleeping in like that. I expect at some point I'm going to be rejecting offers to hangout with friends and simply going to bed early by 8:30pm. It's going to be tough at first I imagine but it's not permanent. Check out the video below where I talk about preparing myself for what's to come:

Bonus Habit #2 – No Alcohol For 30 Days
I've never really been much of a drinker, but I thought I'd add this on to the challenge as it will definitely help with weight loss and my overall state of mind. My "Before" scenario when it comes to drinking alcohol Typically when I do drink I never go over board. Brenda actually claims all the time that she has "never seen me drunk" granted it has happened a few times since we started dating I never like getting out of control. I'm almost 30 now and there is no reason to be out partying or doing anything crazy. I'm typically the designated driver when going out to bars and I may have a few beers over a span of several hours but nothing that would put myself or my friends in trouble. Lately I might drink on the weekends as we recently setup a firepit in our back yard, it's nice to have friends over while we grill and drink some beers. Why bother not drinking for 30 days? I've never personally had any issues with drinking but it's added calories I don't need when I could simply be drinking water while hanging out with friends. Sure, I'll admit it's not as fun but I'm not worried about making a sacrifice for such a short amount of time. Check out this video where I talk about drinking and why I'm giving it a short break with this challenge: Check back after November 20th and see how not drinking effected me.

Bonus Habit #1 – No Video Games for 30 Days
I decided to make the 30 days of discipline program even more challenging for myself by adding in a bonus habit I'll need to be VERY disciplined about! Due to the fact that I'm trying to be productive and maintain many of the 12 habits of discipline over the next month I've decided to also completely stop playing video games for 30 days. Over in my Introduction post I mentioned this: No Video Games for 30 days – Yup, you read that right. No playing video games for a whole 30 days. I actually did this last year successfully which was a huge accomplishment for me seeing as I am an avid gamer and play games with most of my friends on a regular basis. You can actually see how many hours over the past 11 years I have spent playing games over at Steam Gauge. – “Over the last 11 years, you’ve spent 2631.8 hours playing this selection, which includes 296 items, is valued at $3924.67, and requires 1749.1 GB” So what was my life like "before" when I did play video games ALL the time? I've grown up always loving games, my friends were the same way. I won't dive into tons of detail but from reading the above statistics it's obvious I love games and spend a lot of time playing them. I've played MMO's like World Of Warcraft and Everquest which have taken up vast amounts of time from my life. Do I regret it? Not entirely, there were lots of fun times had playing games like that years ago. Today I'm almost 30 and it's time to focus more on what's important and less on time sinking activities. Before starting this challenge I still played quite often but not anywhere near as much as I did growing up in my teens and early 20's. I still like to get together with friends on weekends and play games on a Saturday or Sunday over a small LAN. Even to do this day it's still one of the most entertaining things I get to do when I have free time. Why give them up for 30 days? The main reason is time and my drive to start my eCommerce business. I want to start being successful as an online seller and that won't happen if I spend my weekends playing games, so beyond getting normal tasks done I can now dedicate some of my time to building this side business. Check out this video where I talk about games and how they have effected me over the years: Check back after November 20th and see how much of a difference stopping video games made for me.

Habit #12 – Taking Some Time To Rest On Sundays
We all need breaks from time to time. In the 30 days of discipline program you are allowed to take the morning and early afternoon as a time to relax. My "Before" situation with taking rest and relaxation days It's very common for me to have come home and either done one of the following: Play video games all night Watch TV shows or movies all night Go out places potentially I didn't need to I have been a lot better with goals and getting things done the last few years but there are definitely nights where I'd just come home and sit around watching tv or playing video games. Before I started this challenge a newer video game came out and I literally played for an entire Saturday for 12 hours straight! I thought I was passed that phase in my life as I used to do this as a kid. Right now I'm trying to build a business so I really shouldn't be spending tons of free time on time sucking things like video games. I'm currently using my nights to be productive and plan to use Saturdays as a day to really get things done so I can relax on Sundays. Check out this video I did on being productive during the week and even on weekends: Check back to this post after November 20th and see what my results were like being productive for most of the week!
