TG Geeks Webcast Episode 310
The Two Gay Geeks 🏳️‍🌈 have a chat with Nomi Ruiz, a singer song writer and now actress with her film debut in Haymaker, due out in theaters and streaming on January 29th. We chat about how Nomi got her start and how she started acting as well as her plans for the future. Have a listen and we hope you enjoy this as much as we did.   About Nomi Ruiz Singer, songwriter, actress, essayist Nomi Ruiz became the first Puerto Rican trans woman to perform on prestigious stages worldwide after appearing on Hercules & Love Affair’s debut album. She continued venturing into electronic music as Jessica 6 further solidifying her status as an international artist and is set to release her solo album Jet Black in 2020. She made her acting debut on Kurt Sutter’s Sons Of Anarchy spinoff Mayans MC and is set to star in the feature Muay Thai Drama film Haymaker. Ruiz has also expanded her work as a writer, publishing intimate essays on gender, sex, sexuality, toxic masculinity, and inclusivity in Jezebel, The Fader, The Advocate, Talkhouse, and more. Twitter: https://twitter.com/NomiRuiz About Haymaker ☀☀☀ Love packs a punch when a retired martial arts fighter finds he has one more shot in life in writer-director Nick Sasso’s debut drama HAYMAKER. After his career in the ring comes to a crossroads, Nick (NICK SASSO), a retired Muay Thai fighter, drifts through the New York nightlife scene…until he accepts a job as the bodyguard of international singing performer Nomi (NOMI RUIZ). Initially unhappy about the arrangement, Nick finds himself drawn to the enigmatic trans woman he now works for. As the two travel from Greece to L.A. to Bangkok to Mexico City, Nick makes the decision to get back into the ring aided by his supportive brother (D. B. SWEENEY) and his coach (ZOË BELL). But while Nick knows this fight is his last best chance at redemption — his “haymaker” punch, his Hail Mary pass — he has to figure out what he and Nomi mean to each other. A true independent film in the classic sense, HAYMAKER boasts mesmerizing performances in a globe-spanning, hypnotic drama that grapples with who we are to ourselves, and what we mean to each other. http://gravitasventures.com/haymaker/ Twitter: https://twitter.com/Haymaker_Movie ❀❀❀❀ In our second segment, we chat about the passing of Mira Furlan. TG Geeks Webcast Episode 309
The Two Gay Geeks 🏳️‍🌈 have a chat with Jesus Canchola Sanchez about his career in writing, filmmaking, and as a writer of children's books. We were excited to learn about the genesis of Pepito and how he came to write a bilingual inclusive children's book. Have a listen and we hope you enjoy this as much as we did.   About Jesus Canchola Sanchez Jesús Canchola Sánchez had his first short story published at the age of 7 in his Chicago elementary school newspaper. He made his film feature debut as writer/director with the movie Bittersweet Waters. Pepito has a doll is his first children's story. Jesús was a boy who played with dolls. More details can be found here: https://www.bittersweetwaters.com/cast-crew Instagram: https://www.instagram.com/pepitohasadoll/ About Pepito Has a Doll Releasing Jan. 20th, Pepito Has a Doll is centered on the experience of a shy young boy who lives with his grandmother. Pepito has only one friend, his doll Lola, until Miguel appears and they begin a joyful adventure together. Bilingual in English and Spanish, this story is an opportunity for families to discuss traditional gender roles and same-gender attraction. As more and more of the children’s book industry is incorporating LGBT characters, rarely do they feature families of color. Pepito loves his doll Lola. She's his only friend. He takes her to school in secret because his schoolmates will make fun of him. He's shy. The other kids at school don't play with him. Every night he prays to find a friend at school. One day a new student arrives at Pepito's school, Miguel. Find out if Pepito and Migues become friends in this charming story of a boy and his doll. Website: https://www.pepitohasadoll.com ☀☀☀ #AD ❀❀❀❀ In our second segment, we chat about our re-watching of West Wing, Enterprise, and we added Fringe. About Grimm ☀☀☀ Portland detective, Nick Burkhardt, has seen some gruesome crime scenes, but nothing prepares him for the strange visions he begins seeing: seemingly regular people momentarily transforming into hideous monsters. A visit from his only living relative reveals the truth. Nick has inherited the ability to see supernatural creatures, and as a "Grimm," he is tasked with keeping the balance between mankind and the mythological. A reformed "Big Bad Wolf" becomes his greatest (and also reluctant) ally and confidant. It's not long before his work as a policeman leads Nick to the criminals he once thought were only found in fairy tales. TG Geeks Webcast Episode 300
The Two Gay Geeks 🏳️‍🌈 have a chat with Gini Koch, author and good friend of the show. We chatted with her while she was in town during the Summer. We had a socially distanced interview, dinner as well as a great time just catching up. Gini was our very first interview and we thought it would be only appropriate to have her back on to celebrate 300 episodes. Have a listen and we hope you enjoy this as much as we did.   © Nancee E. Lewis / Nancee Lewis Photography. About Gini Koch Gini Koch writes the fast, fresh and funny Alien/Katherine "Kitty" Katt series for DAW Books, the Necropolis Enforcement Files series, and the Martian Alliance Chronicles series. "Alien in the House," Book 7 in her long-running Alien series, won the RT Book Reviews Reviewer's Choice Award as the Best Futuristic Romance of 2013. As G.J. Koch she writes the Alexander Outland series and she's made the most of multiple personality disorder by writing under a variety of other pen names as well, including Anita Ensal, Jemma Chase, A.E. Stanton, and J.C. Koch. Gini also has short stories featured in a variety of current and upcoming anthologies, writing as Gini Koch, Anita Ensal, and J.C. Koch. Gini can be reached via her website: www.ginikoch.com About the Alien Katherine "Kitty" Katt Series #AD ☀☀☀ Marketing manager Katherine "Kitty" Katt had just finished a day on jury duty. When she stepped out of the Pueblo Caliente courthouse, all she was thinking about was the work she had to get caught up on. Then her attention was caught by a fight between a couple that looked like it was about to turn ugly. But ugly didn't even begin to cover it when the "man" suddenly transformed into a huge, winged monster right out of a grade Z science fiction movie and went on a deadly killing spree. In hindsight, Kitty realized she probably should have panicked and run screaming the way everyone around her was doing. Instead, she sprinted into action to take down the alien. In the middle of all the screeching and the ensuing chaos, a hunk in an Armani suit suddenly appeared beside her, introduced himself as Jeff Martini with "the agency," and then insisted on leading her to a nearby limo to talk to his "boss." And that was how Kitty's new life among the aliens began... Touched by an Alien is the thrilling first installment of the Alien novels. ❀❀❀❀ In our second segment, we chat very briefly about our re-watch fo the NBC Series, Grimm. TG Geeks Webcast Episode 297
The Two Gay Geeks 🏳️‍🌈 have a chat with Al Sparrow and Michele Snyder, the creative minds behind the This Got Made series we have been running. They tell us how Michele got into puppetry and how Carlton Tetley sprang to life. It was a wild and crazy conversation about everything under the sun. Have a listen and we hope you enjoy this as much as we did.   About Al Sparrow And Michele Snyder Al Sparrow has been reading funnybooks since he started swiping them out of his older sisters’ rooms as a toddler. This prolonged exposure has given him a love of the medium, including the books he lampoons in this series (particularly the books he lampoons in this series). He’s the co-creator of independent comics Thugs! and Red Skirts, and works on his own funnybooks and sketchbooks inbetween filming a comic-reviewing puppet with his wife. Michele Snyder grew up on a steady diet of all things Muppet-based. A lifelong Kermit the Frog fangirl, she has The Muppet Movie pretty much memorized. Given the opportunity to learn how to build her own puppets, she dove in feet first and has been learning (and loving) the craft of puppetry, along with voice over training. She tolerates her husband’s ever-growing comic collection, while he does his best to stay out of her sewing room. About "This Got Made" ☀☀☀ Comic books have the power to escape the mundane, to educate beyond our classrooms, and to inspire us to pursue our personal dreams and visions…and then there’s the books we review on this show. Join host Carlton Tetley as he takes a look at some of the bizarre bits of pop culture that give even the most storied reader pause to wonder why This…Got…Made! Carlton Tetley (a Blue-ish puppet) hosts a review of some of the most interesting(?) comic books ever made. His views and humor are a delight. ❀❀❀❀ In our second segment, we chat about the Star Trek: Voyager episode "Bride of Chaotica". We also highlight recent articles posted to the tggeeks.com in the past week. As always we have our birthdays and we have the ever-popular feedback segment. We welcome your feedback. TG Geeks Webcast Episode 295
The Two Gay Geeks 🏳️‍🌈 have a chat with David R. Slayton, author of the new book, White Trash Warlock. Look for it on October 13th. We talk with David about growing up in Oklahoma and how he came to writing as well as his style. We also reminisced about many OK folklore items. It was such a great time. Have a listen and we hope you enjoy this as much as we did.   About David R Slayton I grew up in Guthrie, Oklahoma, where finding fantasy novels was pretty challenging, and finding fantasy novels with diverse characters was downright impossible. Now I live in Denver, Colorado, and write the books I always wanted to read. My debut fantasy, WHITE TRASH WARLOCK will be out on October 13th, 2020 from Blackstone Publishing. You can pre-order it from your local indie. It’s also available at Barnes and Noble or internationally at Amazon.com In addition to writing, I have taught workshops and appeared on panels at Denver Comic-Con, the Pikes Peak Writers Conference, the League of Utah Writers Quills Conference, and the Seymour Agency Winter Retreat. By day I’m a software implementation consultant. I love connecting with readers. If you’d like to contact me for a school visit or appearance, you can email me at author@davidrslayton.com. About White Trash Warlock ☀☀☀ Not all magicians go to schools of magic. Adam Binder has the Sight. It’s a power that runs in his bloodline: the ability to see beyond this world and into another, a realm of magic populated by elves, gnomes, and spirits of every kind. But for much of Adam’s life, that power has been a curse, hindering friendships, worrying his backwoods family, and fueling his abusive father’s rage. Years after his brother, Bobby, had him committed to a psych ward, Adam is ready to come to grips with who he is, to live his life on his terms, to find love, and maybe even use his magic to do some good. Hoping to track down his missing father, Adam follows a trail of cursed artifacts to Denver, only to discover that an ancient and horrifying spirit has taken possession of Bobby’s wife. It isn’t long before Adam becomes the spirit’s next target. To survive the confrontation, save his sister-in-law, and learn the truth about his father, Adam will have to risk bargaining with very dangerous beings … including his first love. #AD ❀❀❀❀ In our second segment, we chat about our rewatch of the TV Show Grimm and also Star Trek: Voyager which led to a discussion of Hollywood Studio Tours. TG Geeks Webcast Episode 294
The Two Gay Geeks 🏳️‍🌈 have a chat with each other about two different TV shows we just finished re-watching via streaming. Two Sci-Fi shows, Eureka and Warehouse 13. We give our comments and insights on both shows with a few anecdotes as well. Have a listen and we hope you enjoy this as much as we did.   About Eureka From IMDb Storyline: With the help of Albert Einstein and other trusted advisors, President Harry S. Truman commissioned a top-secret residential development in a remote area of the Pacific Northwest, one that would serve to protect and nurture America's most valuable intellectual resources. There our nation's greatest thinkers, the über-geniuses working on the next era of scientific achievement, would be able to live and work in a supportive environment. The best architects and planners were commissioned to design a welcoming place for these superlative geniuses to reside, an area that would offer the best education for their children, the best healthcare, the best amenities and quality of life. A community was created to rival the most idyllic of America's small towns - with one major difference: this town would never appear on any maps. At least, none that haven't been classified "eyes only" by the Pentagon. Short Synopsis: A U.S. Marshall becomes the sheriff of a remote cozy little Northwestern town of Eureka where the best minds in the US have secretly been tucked away to build futuristic inventions for the government which often go disastrously wrong. About Warehouse 13 Storyline: After saving the life of the President in Washington D.C., a pair of U.S Secret Service agents are whisked away to a covert location in South Dakota that houses supernatural objects that the Regents, an Authority above and outside any government, have collected over the centuries. Their new assignment: retrieve lost objects called "Artifacts", seemingly harmless items that can possess immense power, and investigate reports of new ones. Short Synopsis: Pete and Myka, U.S Secret Service agents, are deployed in South Dakota's Warehouse 13 with a new assignment from an authority above and outside the government. ☀☀☀ ❀❀❀❀ In our second segment, we chat about Warehouse 13. The Two Gay Geeks 🏳️‍🌈 have something different this time. We are re-running the very first interview with one of our favorite authors, KD Edwards. This interview was just before The Last Sun was released. It is great to hear how excited we were (and still are) about this book and how excited he was about getting this book out. He even ironed a shirt for our audio-only interview.... ;-) Have a listen and we hope you enjoy this as much as we did.   Image About KD Edwards K.D. lives and writes in North Carolina, but has spent time in Massachusetts, Maine, Colorado, New Hampshire, Montana, and Washington. (Common theme until NC: Snow. So, so much snow.) Mercifully short careers in foodservice, interactive television, corporate banking, retail management, and bariatric furniture has led to a much less short career in Higher Education. The first book in his urban fantasy series THE TAROT SEQUENCE, called “THE LAST SUN,” will be published by Pyr in June 2018. About The Last Sun Edwards’s debut combines swashbuckling action, political intrigue, and romance into a fast-paced and enjoyable adventure. New Atlantis is a self-contained nation of magic users, ensconced on Nantucket Island after a devastating war and ruled by courts named for the major arcana of the tarot. Rune St. John and his bound companion and bodyguard, Brand, are the last survivors of the fallen Sun Court; they make a living doing odd jobs involving varying degrees of danger, mostly for the formidable Lord Tower. After participating in an attack on the Lovers Court, Rune and Brand end up shielding the sheltered and abused grandson of Lady Lovers and searching for the missing son of Lady Justice. Their quest leads them to a conspiracy that involves undead monsters and murder and may be connected to the fall of Rune’s court and the brutal assault he endured afterward. Rune is an entertaining narrator, and his bond with Brand provides a strong emotional cornerstone for their martial and magical skullduggery. Edwards’s intriguing worldbuilding and appealing characters set the stage and pique the reader’s interest for sequels. ☀☀☀ ❀❀❀❀ In our second segment, we chat about what we are looking forward to. He was reporting a long-term missing employee by the name of Bob Johnson. “Bob hasn’t taken a sick day, let alone missed a day’s work by just not showing up, in 20 years.” He explained to the officer. “They had gone on a camping vacation with his family to Wells Gray Park about two weeks ago and haven’t returned. He has missed almost a week of work now." The family was scheduled to return on the 16th of August. Read about Canada's worst mass murderer, David Shearing, in Murder Times Six: The True Story of the Wells Gray Park Murders. Pre-order will be available soon. ❀❀❀❀ In our second segment, we chat about September being Suicide Prevention month and what you can do to help. TG Geeks Webcast Episode 291
The Two Gay Geeks 🏳️‍🌈 have a chat with three authors about how they write. We chat with KD Edwards, who you may be familiar with if you have listened to our show for any length of time, as well as Gregory Ashe, who we interviewed a couple of weeks ago about a new book he had coming out, and we talk with David R. Slayton, an author we will have an interview with shortly about his new book. We had a Writer's Round Table on “Pantsing versus Plotting” style of writing. Have a listen and we hope you enjoy this as much as we did.   About Our Panelists ☀☀☀ KD Edwards K.D. lives and writes in North Carolina, but has spent time in Massachusetts, Maine, Colorado, New Hampshire, Montana, and Washington. (Common theme until NC: Snow. So, so much snow.) Mercifully short careers in food service, interactive television, corporate banking, retail management, and bariatric furniture have led to a much less short career in Higher Education. The first book in his urban fantasy series THE TAROT SEQUENCE, called THE LAST SUN, was published in June 2018. K.D. is represented by Sara Megibow at kt literary, and Kim Yau at Paradigm for media rights. K.D. EDWARDS WRITES ADULT AND YA URBAN FANTASY. Gregory Ashe I'm a long-time Midwesterner. I've lived in Chicago, Bloomington (IN), and Saint Louis, my current home. Aside from reading and writing (which take up a lot of my time), I'm an educator. While I enjoy reading across many genres, my two main loves are mystery and speculative fiction. I used to keep a list of favorite books, but it changes so frequently that I've given up. I'm always looking for recommendations, though, so please drop me a line if you have something in mind! David R. Slayton I grew up in Guthrie, Oklahoma, where finding fantasy novels was pretty challenging, and finding fantasy novels with diverse characters was downright impossible. Now I live in Denver, Colorado, and write the books I always wanted to read. My debut fantasy, WHITE TRASH WARLOCK will be out October 13th, 2020 from Blackstone Publishing. ❀❀❀❀ In our second segment, we chat about our lack of published content for two weeks now, we had a family issue one week and our server hosting partner, GoDaddy had a major malfunction for multiple clients. We also highlight recent articles posted to the tggeeks.com in the past week. As always we have our birthdays and we have the ever-popular feedback segment. We welcome your feedback.
